It's an interesting topic to think about - I'm wholly against the sex trade but would robots be acceptable to me? Would it still lead to people basing their lives around a biological function (gays, sex addicts, adulterers, etc) or would it just be an advanced form of masturbation?
Would it become popular for wives to buy their husbands a sex robot for their anniversary? Or vice-versa? Would they advance the societal slide into degeneration or serve as a stopgap making sex just like a pill to take allowing society to move away from its sexual obsessions?
The movie “AI” had sexbots, in fact one of the main characters was such a unit.

The topic of sex-androids has gotten a lot of, er, play in SF over the years.
Does anyone remember “Westworld?”
Or Darryl Hannah, who played Priss, “a standard pleasure model” in Blade Runner?
Sex Robots or “Gynoids” will only be mainstream once they can be programmed to do housekeeping shores around the house.
Then a wife will never have to claim “I have a headache” or “I don’t want to do dishes” the robot maid who is also a sex robot will take care of it all for her.
Of course then the wife will demand that she has a “Male Sexbot” to service her and perform the chores around the house that the man was supposed to do like cleaning the gutters or mowing the lawn. This will lead to having two robots in the house.
So then you will have a husband and wife essentially cheating in the open on each other using robots... Of course what happens when the two robots have fulfilled the roles of the humans that they were meant to replace? Why keep the humans around, both the robots can have sex with each other over wi-fi (as it can be “virtualized”) and will not need humans at all to take care of the house.
So the humans will then get kicked out of the house and you will have two horny robots banging each other over wi-fi billions of times a day while they are doing all the housekeeping....
