CNN Poll: Republicans Divided On VP Choice
Washington (CNN) - Who should Mitt Romney choose as his running mate?
According to a new national poll, there's no consensus among Republicans. But a CNN/ORC International survey released Wednesday does indicate there's an ideological split that could put pressure on Romney, the all but certain GOP presidential nominee, as he tries to make his decision.

The poll asked Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP to choose from eight names who could be among the two dozen or so potential running mates that the Romney campaign may be considering as the vice presidential nominee.
According to the survey, Condoleezza Rice is on top of the list. Twenty-six percent questioned said they would like to see Rice, who served as national security adviser and later as secretary of state under President George W. Bush, as the Republican vice presidential nominee. In second place in the survey, at 21%, was Rick Santorum, who was Romney's chief rival for the nomination until early last week, when the former senator from Pennsylvania suspended his campaign for the White House.
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie were each at 14%, with House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin at 8%, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal at 5%, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell at 1% and Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio at less than one half of one percent.
"Name recognition is the key," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Rice and Santorum are best known and they top the overall wish list."

Doubt that, it will be someone to mullify the base, it won’t be another liberal republican as VP. May not be a hard core conservative, but it won’t be a moderate or liberal north east republican. My guess would be someone from the south or the southwest.
What the Republican Party wants to do is destroy the Conservative movement.
‘yesterday was an extraordinary step forward’
Condeleeza in her secretary of state role, gushing over Obama being elected
The whole disgusting video is on youtube. The remark comes at the end of a line where she speaks about being especially proud as an African American,,, how America has made another stride towards perfecting itself,, etc etc. She had nothing but good to say about the foreign marxist Muslim lover.
During the campaign,, she was out there cheering Obamas famous silly race speech in response to the Jeremiah Wright racism scandal.
She’s a nwo tool,,, no freaking way she gets my vote
Why should that disqualify her? Romney claimed to support Dukakis.
Exactly. During the Bush administration I remember a lot of FReepers gushing over this woman without ever justifying their adoration by actual positions she had taken. When they would be asked what conservative positions she had espoused made them back her for high office, there would be no response. It was like an earlier day when so many were on the Colin Powell bandwagon even though he, also, never gave any evidence of being a conservative.
And, as you indicate, Rice showed she is no conservative by backing the Marxist in 2008, as did Powell.
I thought voting “feel good” was supposed to be an exclusively libtard phenomenon.
It just boggles my mind that so many self-described "conservatives" STILL are in love with the idea of Condi on the ticket four years later.
Dick Morris & Van Jones love of the idea of Rice being on the GOP ticket, that alone should convince Republicans of anyone BUT Rice.
I'd blame it on GOP voters being uneducated, except when I've talked with Condi fans, they're been told about her positions on the issues and these "conservatives" don't care. She all but admitted she voted for Obama and it doesn't even faze them! She's pro-abortion? No problem. Pro-amnesty for illegals? That's cool. She sucked up the Palestinians and kept trying to accomplish "statehood" for them when they run by Hamas? Okay-dokey. One self-described "conservative" I talked to even said he AGREED with her on the latter two issues.
It's like the morons who continue to love Donald Trump & Peter King no matter WHAT they do (I bet if The Donald announced a Trump 2012 campaign kickoff tomorrow, oddles of useful idiot "conservatives" would begin posting how he's the "true conservative" candidate and sooooo much better than Romney)
Romney's bad enough as it is, putting Condi on the ticket would actually move the GOP ticket to the LEFT. Any "conservative" who fantasizes about a Romney/Rice ticket, you really need to find a new label for yourself because that's anything but "conservative"
aint that the truth
Openly, no. But if you believe she voted for John McCain, I have a bridge to sell you.

"The American people are wise in wanting change"
-- Condoleezza Rice, 2008
Codaleeez1a??? She was awful as Secretary of State. Her day has come and gone. Please no!
Where did Condi come from? I like her, but as Mark Davis said (subbing for Rush) we don’t know much about her positions on anything.
I still think Rubio would be a good choice.
Paul Ryan would be great but we probably need him where he is.
the only person I believe when he says he’s not interested is Perry. He’s got a better job. Any of the others would say yes if actually asked.
I didn’t know or had forgotten that Condi voted for Obama.
The black loyalty thing is weird. One of those very conservative guys on the Fox Business panel (but black) voted for Obama.
Geeze.
GWB was taken in by Colin Powell & Condi Rice, who helped to derail his presidency. Romney picking Condi Rice to get some black votes won’t play in Peoria. Hussein will garner 95% of the black vote. Rubio, West or Portman would be better choices.
But the only thing that seems to matter is whether the Powers That Be feel their profitability in the next four difficult economic years will be greater if they again placate the black/union/Left Axis of Evil (which were in a leather-chewing fury four years ago over GWB) or whether they now feel that the shaky white/business owners/military alliance is on the verge of going full-on Tea Party and need to be placated with a pseudo-conservative like Romney.
There aren't going to be any substantive economic policy differences no matter who wins, but it will be interesting to see which group's dissatisfaction the Big Money is more worried about.
LLS
Mitt Romney needs a running mate who will reassure conservatives at least somewhat and provide some appeal to a key geographical area. Condoleezza Rice does neither of these things.
Bush stink AND genuine liberalism, I could hardly think of a worse choice (that would actually get mentioned) than Rice.
Romney Republicans: “What kind of wine would you like with your cyanide?”
Yep.
