Secret Service Agents Took 20 Women To Colombian Hotel, Says Senator Susan Collins says director is pursuing 'vigorous internal investigation' as scandal triggers scrutiny of agency's culture
Karen McVeigh 17 April 2012 At least 20 women were brought back to a hotel in Colombia by secret service agents and military personnel who are now under investigation into allegations of misconduct involving prostitutes, according to a US senator.
Speaking after she was briefed by the director of the secret service, Susan Collins, the top Republican on the Senate homeland security committee, said on Tuesday: "There are 11 agents involved. Twenty or 21 women foreign nationals were brought to the hotel, but allegedly marines were involved with the rest."
A spokesman for the secret service told the Guardian that it had revoked the top security clearances of the 11 employees, who have been placed on administrative leave and can no longer access official facilities. A number of military personnel, believed to be as many as 10, were also allegedly involved in misconduct at the hotel in Cartagena where President Barack Obama was due to stay ahead of a summit.
A US official told Reuters on Monday that more than 10 military service members may have been involved.
The incident, which overshadowed Obama's visit to the summit in Colombia, has triggered scrutiny of a culture where, according to the Washington Post, married secret service agents joke during aircraft take-off that their motto is "wheels up, rings off". It has also prompted questions about discipline and leadership in the service.

LOL!! A whole host of important people are using unfortunate word choices.
Any official statements regarding this case really need to be proofread...several times.
The second thing was, can you imagine the media outrage if this had happened when Bush was president?
"hand" LOL!
It's George Bush's fault.
Just like the agents were doing.
“The incident, which overshadowed Obama’s visit to the summit in Colombia, has triggered scrutiny of a culture where, according to the Washington Post, married secret service agents joke during aircraft take-off that their motto is “wheels up, rings off”.”

So this “culture” is well known enough that even the incompetents taking up space at the Washington Post know about it, but the SS wives don’t? Or are we to assume that they are OK with it, you know “hip” enough to have an “open” marriage? Probably the latter, as the amoral Left constantly tries to drag everyone down into the gutter with them.
In any case, I say not only bull$hit, but Total Bull$hit.
Something else is going on here.
What else do you suppose was going on?
“A bunch of guys got drunk, hired some hookers and got caught.”
####
A bunch of guys?
Like a pimply-faced fraternity or a bowling team?
Hardly.
No these were high level law enforcement and military types operating in a highly visible environment, repeatedly briefed and screened for security risks, and I would hope, appearances of impropriety.
BTW, do the married “bunch of guys” you hang with, engage in reflexive and serial adultery?
OK then, a bunch of high level law enforcement and military types operating in a highly visible environment, repeatedly briefed and screened for security risks, and I would hope, appearances of impropriety got drunk, hired some hookers, and got caught.
“Why was one stiffed?”
ah, come on, you did NOT say that...
Really??? And your experience as a secret service agent is exactly what???
I thank you for your service. Marines are a unique species that I grant but dont think that everyone else has the morals of the Marines you knew ...
Then a few minutes later your 2nd response ... obviously feeling your earlier post not sufficient.
You may know Marines. You may have the same slimy morals as the alley cats that roam the garbage filled streets of any give port. But you do NOT know the breed. In fact you would never qualify to be part of the breed.
Such vitriol ... my suggestion to you 'newbie' is take this type of vitriolic response to another forum ... (liberal websites where you no doubt have strayed from) are more suitable for this type of crap response.
Indeed! My time in the Navy revealed the same. A waitress friend of mine, who worked at the NCO Club, told me that some of the wives of my shipmates took off their rings as soon as we shipped out.
I suspect that many of our Secret Service agents come from the military. Our military personnel does make connection with a much more liberal sex industry in countries outside the U.S. Washington D.C. used to have wide open sex clubs and hookers on the street. Rigorous law enforcement has changed that. So, when our SS agents go into a country like Columbia, with legal prostitution, I can understand the human nature element. But, these men should know the seriousness of their jobs. They are acting like a Saturday Night Live skit, which means they are not taking their jobs seriously and it might be because they do not take seriously, the one in the office.
Back in the day, I hit a few liberty ports in the Pacific and the Med (I was Air Force, not in the Naval Service), and it was pretty wide open then. My daughter told me that times have changed. She is on her third deployment to Afghanistan and said that if a service member “sets up a tryst in, say, Olongapo with Rosita,” said service member can be prosecuted for sex crimes under the UCMJ.
It is not vitriol. I know many good Marines and I know some Secret Service ( not as many since the pool is smaller). The ones I know are not so cavalier about either their mission or their behaviour
