TRUE COLORS TIME (or Don't Let Newt Down)
Vanity | April 16, 2012 | True Believer Forever

TRUE COLORS TIME

If you listened closely to Sarah tonight on Levin’s program, she was pretty much endorsing Romney. I suspect she will hold her cards, won’t jump into the fray until the convention, where she will get maximum exposure for her particular agenda. And then she will play the good citizen role and support Romney. I’ve been worried about her since she showed up so ungraciously during the summer to rain on the parade of some of the more conservative candidates…

The same applies to her as everyone else... Not fighting, not helping Newt right now, is the same as voting for Obama.

I want you to think about something... if all these people, who call themselves conservative, who want to be thought of as conservative, all joined together – from Limbaugh – to Sarah – to Bachmann, and all the others – and in one voice said, No, we won’t, and worked their hearts out for Newt, starting this moment right now - instead of CYAing it; there would be no doubt who the next President would be. It would be Newt. It will still be Newt. But look what they are doing, look at the maneuvering, the shifting, the caving. In the space of a week the conservative world – political and otherwise – has become a cluster of Bart Stupak clones.

Even Santorum, what did he do? Faced with possible/probable defeat, he caved, he ran home. He didn’t like the amount of debt he was accumulating. He couldn’t see the math allowing him victory. So. He. Quit.

How does Mark Levin – any of them – ever complain about or criticize Boehner again? Or McConnell, or the Republican establishment? They are just as weak and spineless, just as compromised now.

True Colors Time.

America flickers, a lighthouse about to be engulfed by darkness. People are folding caving collapsing all around us, and we are being chided for not being realists…

Realists on the banks of the Delaware would have tried to convince those First Patriots it was too cold, too dark, too much ice; the pragmatic thing was to wait for another day when conditions were better, the risks not so great…

Exactly who is behaving like George Washington right now? And who are the cowards?

Next time..

Four years from now, they will look back and call these times carefree, like the play of children. It will never be easier than it is right now. Next time, it will be harder. Where will the repurposed courage come from then?

It is always going to require biting down hard while terror circuits through you – facing annihilation; not facing impossible mathematical odds, facing annihilation.

Who will there be then to face down the kind of raw fear that cakes the back of the throat and jellies out muscles and nerves? Who? And where will they be found?

They have Newt now... experienced, battle hard, for the most part fearless, doesn’t know how to quit. There is no one else now; there never was. There will be no one else the next time, if there is a next time; because next time, not even a Newt will be sufficient.

The fainting conservatives see the GOP establishment, its power, everywhere and deep, arrayed around them, able to twist events and turn people to their will – the same way that American soldier saw the British fleet in Boston Harbor - as if all of London was afloat before his eyes.

Yet they carried on. A rag tag bunch, one step ahead of annihilation. It should be a song in your hearts by now.

They carried on and today I am writing to you about them. And their True Colors Time. I know everyone around us is fainting, finding excuses for fainting, trying to make their fainting seem purposed - or holy - pragmatic. But, they are still just fainting.

Fret not.

Faint not.

Fear not.

NEWT GINGRICH... The Last Conservative Standing. He Deserves Your Very Best.

I have a little group of young grassrooters I supervise, and they were feeling a little down at how the coronation of Romney was beginning in earnest, so I posted this to them on Friday morning - and they are feeling much better, and have a skip in their step once again.

If you have need of a little encouragement while you keep working for Newt, I hope this helps atleast a litte.

I don’t like any of the candidates; but they are trying to suck the life out of another one in the way of the one they want; not who we want.

I would say everyone vote for Newt not that he is any better; but get rod of Soros and Obama.

I am working for my country...and right now, that means Newt. There is no one else left standing. I am disappointed that Sarah seems, according to you, ready to cave, and hope it isn’t true.

I believe she voted for Newt or indicated she would. There comes a time when all Republicans will have to come together and no Romney was not my first or second choice. Let’s not cut off our noses to spite our face.

I would never vote for that back-stabbing anti-conservative. He can go back to working for Nancy Pelosi and trying to get global warming bills passed to destroy American business. I’m sick of he and Romney being pushed on us.

The old principal bears repeating:

If you admit you are defeated, you are.

Don't give up before the fight is over and say you are being realistic. The odds don't matter, fighting the good fight does.

uh, not to put too fine a point on it, but Newt is being shoved on anyone, in fact, there seems to be a concerted effort to keep him from getting any media attention at all. He is doing an end run around that, and it's not easy.

So now Sarah Palin is, in effect, “voting for Obama”?

I think not.

It is really good to hear that said out loud, because not too many people live by that these days. Once you learn that or are taught it, it's difficult to go back...

Thanks for the kind words...

It's the 4th quarter - Time to Leave it on the Field.

That's not what I said. I said that by the big guns not jumping into the breach and exploiting the last chance the conservatives have to gobsmack the GOP, and get the candidate they choose, not the one chosen for them, they will get romney, who will be defeated by Obama.

And more importantly, the GOP establishment will know that they can cram anyone they want down the base's throat adn get away with it...

She has also been very clear all along that she will support the Republican candidate to unseat Obama. As will I.

Your perspective is so skewed it borders on PDS. You apparently do not remember even the recent past.

Be that as it may I plan to vote my conscience in the primary as I always have. In the general I will do whatever it takes to do two things

1)have as many conservatives as possible elected to the House and Senate
2)make sure that Obama does NOT have a second term.

Which can also be stated this way: Once the GOP gets their way, I will take a stand. When, at least as I see it, she could do something now, while there's still time, and derail the coronation of Romney, which will become even more inevitable after he speaks at the RNC tomorrow and will be hailed as the presumptive nominee...

She told people to vote for Newt, she voted for Newt in Alaska and she isn't doing a thing to help him now while there is still an off chance an upset could be accomplished.

I love Sarah Palin. I think she is behaving like all the rest of them, preserving her political capital, not making waves in teh GOP, and not doing anything to help the last conservative standing. You don't know me, but that is a very painful thing for me to say.

Blah blah I was perfectly happy when Newt was on top, but all this stuff about pushing down our throats. I watched Newt stumble in debates, then saw him self destruct by getting petty after primaries, miss opportunities to give a good speech when all the networks were covering him, etc.

If anything, all the alternates to Romney kept this thing going deep into the primaries. No one forced anything on anybody. And this isn’t the first time republicans failed to pick the most conservative candidate. I’m not sure why. 2008 I thought Fred Thompson was great but he’s doing reverse mortgage ads now.

Which is, in effect, saying you will vote romney, rather than get on the battlefield and do your best to see that he isn't the nominee... that is a skewed perspective bordering on Newt Derangement Syndrome...

Don't blame me that you can't see what's at stake and that you have no problem voting for Romney... your choices entirely...

That’s a nice mix of romney talking points you got going there... and pretty much the media talking points, also...

Which is it?

She won't endorse now, when it could help Newt a great deal, and she will wait till the convention so she "can help out"...

I love Sarah Palin with all my heart. I just don't think she is behaving like a patriot. She's behaving like a politician with an eye on her political future...

If she ever does run, I would work my heart and soul for her, the way I am for Newt. But she's not running and Newt needs her help.

She voted for him in Alaska, urged others to vote for him, but won't get off teh sidelines and make a difference... I don't find that admirable..

She'll let Newt labor on the trail, trying to stifle as many Romney delegates as he can, she won't help now, but she'll be there in Tampa...
