SANFORD, Florida (Reuters) - Neighbors of George Zimmerman say he had bandages on his nose and head the day after he shot dead Trayvon Martin, supporting statements by the neighborhood watch volunteer that he was beaten in a confrontation with the black Florida teenager.
The extent of Zimmerman's injuries could be crucial to his legal defense under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law, which allows the use of deadly force when someone has the reasonable belief he could face death or great bodily harm.
Police said Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the racially charged case, was bleeding from the nose and the back of his head and was treated by medics before being taken to Sanford police station after the February 26 shooting.
But public doubts were later raised by the release of a grainy surveillance video from the police station in which no injuries were readily visible.
Zimmerman later sought medical treatment for injuries including a broken nose, his former lawyers have said.
Jorge Rodriguez, Zimmerman's next-door neighbor, told Reuters that when he saw Zimmerman the day after the incident, "he had two big, butterfly bandages on the back of his head, and another big bandage...on the bridge of his nose." He was talking to a police detective in his driveway.

Another article stated:
“The neighbors said they spoke to Sanford police and the FBI in their investigations but did not recall speaking to the office of special prosecutor Angela Corey”
Huh?? How in the world can Corey NOT have spoken with the neighbors who eyeballed Zimmerman the next day?
“Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the racially charged case”.................................. Racially charged for a political reason! That’s all that it is about. The next election will be more about race and gender than the economy. They gotta keep the economy in the background if the Dems. expect to win.
Would a person carrying a gun initiate a physical altercation with an unknown, larger opponent?
I didn’t think so.
Self-defense.
Because they would refute her distortions?
No need to talk to neighbors - the cops and medics already have records of the injuries.
Anyone notice the absence of the phrase “alleged killer” in the headline? Zimmerman is described simply as a killer. So much for a presumption of innocence.
If I'm on my back getting my face modified and my skull being smashed into concrete.......... race is really not on my mind, but shooting is.
Yes, but one would think Corey would want to find out what account of the shooting Zimmerman gave them on the next day. Does it match what he told the police?
I agree, and I would be screaming with rage until I could find my gun!
Zimmerman's admitted to the killing; there's no need for 'alleged killer." The brouhaha is over the Zimmerman's potential legal defenses to the killing - common law self-defense and the Florida Stand Your Ground Act of 2005.
NOT GUILTY!!!
NOT GUILTY!!!
bump
So he shot a dead Trayvon Martin? Grammar school kids have better sentence structure than this whiz kid at Reuters.
My point is still valid because how many times have we read news reports where the accused is cuaght on video or has confessed to their actions and the media refers to them as “alleged (insert name of offense here)”? Zimmerman receives no such treatment in this piece.
There is no way an HONEST jury will find Zimmerman guilty.
I don’t expect an honest jury will be found , and even if it is the results will be expensive in many cities, as Jesse and Al stir the pot.
How come last week we didn't see a similar headline:
Sharon Tate's Killer Denied Parole.
-PJ
Good point.
The only thing Zimmerman is guilty of is "self-defense while white-Hispanic."
