Tim Tebow booed at Yankee Stadium
Zap 2 It ^ | April 16, 2012 | By Andrea Reiher

NFL quarteback Tim Tebow and NBA star Dwyane Wade took in the Yankees-Angels game Sunday night (April 15). They were not there together, but were sitting near each other and did stand up at one point to say hello.

But when Tebow's face was flashed on the jumbotron he was met with a loud chorus of boos, despite wearing a Yankees cap. D-Wade was booed briefly as well, but the boos turned to cheers when he put on his Yankees hat.

ESPN reports that Nick Swisher, outfielder/first baseman for the Yankees, was asked about Tebow's reception from the fans after the game. Swisher just says, "Welcome to New York, Tim."

Tebow was traded from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets this offseason, as a backup quarterback to the Jets' Mark Sanchez. Now, we will say that our New York friends have told us the fandom lines tend to lean towards Yankees-Giants, Mets-Jets - so perhaps Tebow would hear more cheers at CitiField over in Queens.

Maybe it was his seat, next to Dwyane Wade hours after the Miami Heat beat the New York Knicks.

It’s a Giants fan thing and I’d hazard a guess that about 90% of it was good natured ribbing. Fortunately, Tebow seems to have taken it in the manner in which it was intended.

Booed by Giant fans that hate the Jets? Or because there are a lot of degenerate morons in the New York liberal hellhole that hate an outspoken Christian?

There is a nexus of Giant/Yankee fans and one of Met/Jet fans in New York. My guess is that the Giant/Yankee fans were booing because they hate the Jets and the Jet fans were booing because their team sucks and Tebow is not going to help.

Nothing to do with religion. Even so, if I were Tebow, I'd retire before I worked for that organization.

Doesn’t surprise me from Sodom on the Hudson
Well, Yankee Stadium’s just a bit offshore from the Harlem River, but point definitely taken. And their new and rather lousy stadium was built with tax dollars—the 1923 stadium (the “House that Ruth Built”) was privately financed by the team’s then-owners. (The new stadium is smaller!)

Never mind this: How is it that the proverbial House That Ruth Built cost $32.7 million (in 2012 dollars) to build, and the new government-cheese-funded stadium cost a whopping $2.3 billion?? (i.e. in 2009 dollars; that would be $2.5 billion today.)

I’m not so sure of that... I think it would bring back some painful memories and emotions... If i’m not mistaken, most new yorkers opposed the Ground Zero mosque.

Is New York really necessary? Can’t we sell or lease it to someone?

It's coming.

Much ado over nothing. They weren’t booing Tebow because of his religion. They were booing him because he plays for the Jets. Doesn’t anybody know that there is a friendly cross-town rivalry between Yankees/Giants and Mets/Jets?

Based on the way that this thread is going I figure it's safe to assume that most don't know and that most of the rest don't care because, let's face it, it's just more fun to be a victim. I swear, there are days when the "persecuted masses" on this board make me really scratch my head.

Any idea why a tagline has been added after my screen name that I did not choose?

Just happened in my reply to this post.

You are correct sir. Yankees/Giants and Mets/Jets makes perfect sense. When I grew up the Yankees and Giants were the establishment, the uptight bunch. Their fans looked like the characters in Mad Men. The Mets and Jets were the carefree fun loving crowd. Tug McGraw and Joe Namath. FuManchus and big sideburns. So a Jets QB being booed in the Stadium that sits next to the site of the Giants old stadium, filled with Giant fans, is no surprise.
