Bachmann 'Very Seriously Looking Into' Romney Endorsement
National Journal ^ | April 15, 2012 | Alexandra Jaffe

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann stopped just short of endorsing Mitt Romney on Sunday, saying she was “very seriously looking into an endorsement.”

“I think we're seeing a uniting and a pulling together around our eventual nominee," she said on NBC’s Meet the Press. "And I have said that I want my voice to be one of uniting our party, the independents, the mainstream, conservatives, evangelicals, the tea party movement. I want to unite our party.”

Bachmann dropped out of the GOP primary race in early January and has yet to endorse any of her former opponents. But with only three candidates left in the race, and Romney the presumptive nominee, Bachmann has little to lose endorsing Romney. And perhaps little to gain as well.

Still, Bachmann offered glowing praise of Romney on Sunday, a man she once derided, along with Newt Gingrich, as an establishment, insider candidate. In debates and elsewhere, she referred to both men collectively as "Newt-Romney."

But on Sunday, Bachmann called Romney "an extremely smart guy," saying that Americans lives will be "far more improved with a proven, smart, successful businessman like Mitt Romney than someone like Barack Obama, who can only blame his predecessor for his current economic poor choices.”

Most people laughed and applauded her guts and cleverness when she called Newt and Mitt, “Newt Romney” as if they were one and the same.

Doesn’t seem quite so gutsy and clever now...

Seems to me Bachmann is living in realville, not some fantasy land that believes Newt can still get the nomination or produce a brokers convention.

Not only can Newt produce a brokered convention, it's likely if we don't all fall in step behind Mitt. Mitt will fall short of a guaranteed first round nomination so long as Newt stays in it and is treated as a viable candidate. I'll admit that it's like those who want to force Mitt down our throats in the election will finish the job in the second or third round of ballots at the convention, but there is at least a real possibility that they will also recognize the inconvenient truth - no one like Mitt. At that point, all bets are off, and the question is: who should be our nominee. It's worth continuing to support Newt for that chance. The weaker Mitt is in the remaining primaries, the better the chances that he's perceived as too weak for the nomination.

You joined FR 4 days ago to pimp-TROLL for Romney... how very transparent.

Those that call themselves PATRIOTS and CONSERVATIVES, yet stand in support of an abortionist supporting, homosexualist, socialist, mandate loving, constitution trampling liar such as Mitt Romney, ARE NEITHER.

It will be interesting to see when Bachmann gives her endorsement (strategically) and the same goes for Santorum (I'd like to think it won't be Romney but...). It seems Romney calls for endorsements when he needs help. Cain has endorsed Romney, Bachmann is hinting, Perry is with Newt, Paul is with Paul, Santorum is......

If the others had stayed anti-Romney much of that 60+% block would be out of Mitt's reach.

Newt’s the only one who can pull us out of this mess. I’d like to see him announce who would be his VP. Like West or Palin.

I agree. Palin's been vetted and a fighter. West is smart and the libs can't pull the race card.

I sent her a few campaign contributions until she started acting like a back-biting bitch during the debates.

Actually, quite the opposite. Newt’s still buried behind Santorum and Paul. Until that changes, he’s not going to be viable. Right now throwing money at Newt is chasing good money after bad.

Newt’s not even going to finish second in any of the upcoming states, and will likely finish 4th in all of them, while Romney will add to his tally.

The last chance to stop Romney has already passed, and the Newt supporters chose to back Newt over Santorum. That’s a pity. 4 states could have been in the Santorum column, including OH and MI, if the Newt supporters had backed Santorum. Possible WI and WA as well, but that opportunity has passed.

The candidates trash each other, then no matter how bad the winner is, they endorse him/her. Why bother with debates since it doesn’t matter to them in the end?

That’s why the Republican Pary has imploded into liberalism. If Romney is chosen, consider that a hydrogen bomb implosion to the max.

She was in on being a conservative/Palin shield and vote-splitter for Romney all along. Big disappointment, but she and Rove go way back—insofar as her political career goes way back, that is.

Don't you mean CINO?

Isn't that why you're so disappointed?

I'm just surprised she waited this long. Hey, he owes her. Her yapping at Perry helped take him out.

I wish Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Newt, Santorum, et al will threaten not to support Romney or vote for him until they see him move further rightward.

....Her yapping at Perry helped take him out.

And she took herself out in the process.

Things happen that we never expect, so I am grateful that Newt remains standing.

I’m pretty sure Bachmann will endorse Romney. I’m also confident, should Newt not succeed at the Convention, that he will endorse Romney as well.
