Gingrich’s latest endorser believes he can still win it
Daily Caller ^ | 4-12-12 | Levinson

The Republican presidential primary has been pronounced over, but against the odds, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich remains in the race.

Even more improbably, the former speaker is still getting a slow trickle of endorsements from politicians who seem to genuinely believe he has a shot at the White House.

The Daily Caller caught up with the latest politician to endorse Gingrich, Delaware State Senator Dave Lawson, whose endorsement was announced on Wednesday after Rick Santorum dropped out and the vast majority of pundits declared the race at the end.

“The race isn’t over until the votes are counted, and so I don’t believe the race is over,” Lawson told TheDC. “I believe that Speaker Gingrich certainly has a very good crack at this nomination; I believe he certainly has the right attributes to work toward putting this country back on its feet.”

Lawson said he did not decide who to support until recently. If Romney does become the nominee, Lawson said he’ll “absolutely” support him, but until then, he believes Gingrich is the best man for the job.

“With his experience, his knowledge, his commonsense, his very logical approach, I think that he’s something that this country needs,” Lawson said.

“He totally loves this country,” he added. ”He believes in it from stem to stern.” (RELATED: Full coverage of the Gingrich campaign) Ads by Google

Asked why he believed Gingrich was still in the race given all of the calls for him to drop out and the fact that even he has admitted that Romney will likely be the nominee, Lawson just laughed.

“Reagan didn’t win anything until he got to North Carolina,” he said. “We’re not to North Carolina yet. And then Reagan ended up taking the presidency, obviously.”

Lawson likened Gingrich’s situation to his own in 2010, when he ousted a 36-year incumbent against the odds.

“We’ve had so many upsets and so many news media election results long before the results were in, and that’s what they’re doing now,” he said. “Everybody’s going, ‘He’s [Romney is] obviously heir-apparent.’ There is no such thing as an heir-apparent in politics.”

Happy to see mitt-wit nationalizing his campaign, so that the Dems and MSM can now have at him.

No worries. There’s a major gaffe coming– it’s in the Romney genes. Might happen as soon as his NRA speech, but it will come. Don’t doubt me on this. -:)

I’m in, til Newt’s out.

Can you imagine a debate between Newt and Obama?

LMAO!!

And to make it fair and and AA- I’d allow Obama to use an ear piece and 6 IBM Big Blues each feeding its own teleprompter!

Newt only gets a cracked etch a sketch.

It is up to us to gaffe Mittens everyday ourselves until he’s polling 40 to 48% with zero.

This time around, we really need to EAT our ‘own’, not just nick him, if we want a brokered convention.

The reason Rosen was yanked back on her leash is the left wants nobody BUT Romney.

tx, I sense you’re a younger member- so you may not be aware that Romney’s father was once in contention for the GOP nomination— until, he came back from a visit to Vietnam and declared he had been “brainwashed”. (Of course, he’s a Romney- so, a light rinse would have done it.) And boom, he was a goner.

So, all Newt supporters now have one task to perform along with there nightly prayers-— recite 3 times, “brainwash, Mitt”-— and the gaffe will definitely come.

Who was Romney Sr. saying brainwashed him, and over what?

We could power-wash Jr. off our streets today, if we decided to do it together.

Only a few days ago, all of us Newt supporters were traitors for not backing Santorum and thereby vicariously supporting Romney. Now that Rick is out, why isn’t their a sea change of support for Newt? I don’t #ing get it. Everyone’s bitching about Romney, but hardly anyone is raising the call for unity behind Newt. The #ing petulance is unreal.

Go Newt!!! It ain’t over, damnit!!!

Meant you no offense there Tx, just thought you were a youngster- must be that youthful enthusiasm in your posts.

Here’s a Wiki link to George Romney, just go down to his presidential campaign— It’s actually quite interesting in the sense that the similarities between George and Mitt are uncanny-—

i really don’t understand why more people have not voted for newt

They are the 'easily brain washed' and voted out of FEAR. They are basically GUTLESS. The kind the media and GOP E were counting on and KNEW they existed.

GO NEWT the PATRIOT! The BEST for AMERICA and thank you for staying in it as in every cell of your body screams AMERICA!!

IMO, Santorum supporters had mush for brains - and are NOT conservative. Santorum supported Mitt in '08, so what would you expect of his supporters. Same mindset - 'bottom of the class' type. Unable to think on their own - just like mitt who will NEED to surround himself to tell him what to think/do.

GO NEWT!! THE BEST FOR AMERICA! And thank you for staying in and not turning America over to the hands of evil. You give PRO AMERICANS hope and honor those who gave their life for this country.

Saint Rick relied heavily on women voters, because they could vote for Gingrich, because of his previous marriages.

If they had taken a closer look at his marriages, it was more of a case of him not making wise choices about mates and his mates leaving him, not him leaving his mates.

The media, Dems, Romney, and Saint Rick basically, but unintentionally, worked together to damage Gingrich’s political brand.

This Lawson guy's terrific and KNOWS what he's talking about. He actually did it!

Lawson likened Gingrich’s situation to his own in 2010, when he ousted a 36-year incumbent against the odds.

“The race isn’t over until the votes are counted, and so I don’t believe the race is over,” Lawson told TheDC. “I believe that Speaker Gingrich certainly has a very good crack at this nomination; I believe he certainly has the right attributes to work toward putting this country back on its feet.”

“With his experience, his knowledge, his commonsense, his very logical approach, I think that he’s something that this country needs,” Lawson said.

Thanks for posting this, Vin.
