NO ROMNEY!!

Those who cannot stomach rebellion might as well start looking for a new home on the net!!

Those who have ignored my hundreds of posts on this crucial issue or who have doubted me these last three or four years might as well get used to it. FR will never support the abortionist, homosexualist, socialist, mandate loving, constitution trampling liar Mitt Romney.

In case you haven't noticed, a TEA Party rebellion is on and Free Republic signed on years ago. There is no turning back. No more crap from the GOP-e!! They've screwed us for the last time!! Karl Rove and Mitt Romney, et al, loathe conservatism and loathe the tea party and took it upon themselves to use their money and connections to destroy nearly every one of our conservative tea party candidates while pushing their big government RINOS. That makes them the enemy. I will not reward that betrayal by giving them my support or my vote.

FR is and will remain a pro-life, pro-limited government conservative site!!

We are beholden to NO ONE!! We bow to no kings!! We bow to NO RINOS!!

I'd rather fight and die like a man than bend over and be screwed by a RINO!! I refuse to kiss Karl Rove or Mitt Romney's rings!! They can kiss my rosy red ass instead!!

FUMR!! FUGOP!!

Long live the rebellion!!

If I vote for XYZ. My vote is counted for XYZ...not Obama, and not Romney. As much as you may to pretend that elections are mutually exclusive events (big words alert), they are not.

Nonsense. We are faced with a binary choice of 0bama in or 0bama out. A vote for a write-in or fringe candidate does absolutely nothing to harm 0bama’s chance of re-election. You might as well skip the presidential preference vote if you aren't going to support the only viable challenger to 0bama. (At this point there is no question that the viable challenger will be the GOP nominee.) A vote for the nominee cancels a vote for 0bama. A vote for a fringe candidate is a mere protest, which in the grand scheme works against the GOP nominee and in 0bama’s favor (assuming your natural tendency would NOT be to favor 0bama). Pretend all you want, but you are aiding 0bama by voting for anyone other than his most serious challenger.


In theory you are right starting from the idea that to allow an evil to take place without making an effort to stop it makes you complicit in the act. However I think you are making two assumptions and come to the wrong conclusion:
Assumption 1. Anybody really is better than Obama. Of course by anyone I mean Romney, and that debate has been the topic of many other threads. In short, replacing Obama with a man who believes in socialism at whatever level of government may or may not be an improvement. We currently have a federal government that spends half a billion dollars in less than two hours. This country may not be able to wait through a moderate who won't stand strong on spending cuts. If that is true then we may trully be danged if we do and danged if we don't.

Assumption 2:Conscience has it's limits. Even on matter of clear right and wrong like abortion my conscience kicks me if I think of having to vote for Romney. Can I trust him to appoint judges that will protect my rights or the rights of the unborn? Based on his record clearly the answer is no. Can I then with a clean conscience vote for Romney and if I do not heed my conscience what sort of a man am I?

Now then, setting aside my restraint, despondency, and reasonableness.

You can’t blame the establishment GOP for screwing your candidate if they themselves don’t get into the race. All the people we begged to run that were tea party conservatives didn’t run.

I agree.

It will come down to Obama versus one realistic opponent. I'm going to vote against Obama by voting for the realistic opponent. I had hopes for Cain and then Gingrich, but it now looks like that opponent will be Romney.

I'm just playing the odds. There is no chance that Obama will gut Obamacare. There is some chance that Romney will gut Obamacare. As Mark Steyn says, socialized medicine fundamentally transforms the relationship between citizens and their government. Once in place, socialized medicine is impossible to eliminate. This is our last chance to stop America from becoming a full-on socialist country.

There is no chance that Obama will appoint conservative Supreme Court justices. There is some chance that Romney will do so.

That's it. Those are the important issues here. Much more important than sticking it to the Republican establishment.

Your post reminds me of a column that, I believe, Thomas Sewell wrote early on in the primary.

His point was that what had to happen is all the NotRomneys drop out except for one, and the others support him against Romney. As long as this didn’t happen, the vote would be split.

It’s not the GOP’s fault, it is because of the field (and those who didn’t run) and the primary voters.

Well, we finally have just one left (excepting Paul of course) against Romney.

It may be too late, but I don’t care, I’m full out for Newt and I still get to vote for him.

OK, we have Obama and Romney; care to tell us how to slam the brakes on here? There’s a term and a concept you should get familiar with...it’s called reality. You can sit home feeling sorry for yourself on election night, but that won’t accomplish anything. In the immortal words of Burgess Meredith (Grumpy Old Men): “You can wish in one hand and crap in the other, and see which one gets filled first.”

“Reality” is voting for a conservative. That’s the choice a conservative has. If you are one, that’s your choice. If you are not, then you are free to vote for a non conservative like Romney.

I'll try: Because Romney has to run to the right of 0bama, and that means he will be subject to influence from the right if he wants to win one term and even more so to have any hope at a second term. 0bama is entirely a creature of the Left and responds only to the leftist impulse. Moreover, if reelected, 0bama has absolutely nothing to lose. Expect an all-out leftist assault until his second term ends or he is (we would have to hope) completely neutered by the 2014 midterm. As between two admittedly bad options, I want the guy I might be able to influence nominating life-term Supreme Court justices and federal judges, as opposed to the dyed-in-the-wool leftist.

I totally agree with JR that working comprehensively on the lower levels is the key to getting back the party, but I also think there is value in doing everything possible to get the Court back solidly on an originalist footing. Think about the policy issues that make your blood really boil. There's probably an adverse, activist Supreme Court decision behind 90% of them.

No, you see... I too am concerned, and that is why I’m not leaving. If Jim ever wants to zot me, that’s his choice, but like I said, I know he’s a good man and I do not think he will do that to a fellow vet who only wishes the same goal of removing Barak Obama, and discussing that objective in a respectful and rational adult manner.
