Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

“I no longer watch much news on TV”

I don’t watch any news/newstainment stories anymore. It’s prog propaganda.

I read.

Beck, though I will listen to him, has me up in arms a lot, when he ignores Newt. Because Newt’s a ‘progressive.’ Well, Romney has said he is in no uncertain terms. So, Beck and crew, if you read this, cover THAT and stop being an a$$ about Newt and about the 0bama/Romney eligibility issue. COVER it, if you are the patriot you claim to be.

Well, there was a post here the other day about how Fox’s ratings are down——we’ll see how they like that. I get my news here now anyway.

You know... fox is and has always been a gop/e organization. I watched them on C-Band Dish the first day they came up on the bird. They started out as a very Conservative news outlet and they were fair but certainly level headed and marketed themselves as our alternative to all other media. Being the gop/e progressives that they are... murdoch and ailes plotted to boil the frog... but we are not frogs and we are not as dumb as the gop/e and the dims think that we all are. Newt is correct... and as far to the left as cnn is... they have been straight up when dealing with the republican lineup. They do not care who wins the republican nomination... to them... whoever he will be... he will be the enemy regardless and they will already put 100% into reelecting obama.

I’ve just watched on CSpan Newt Gingrich’s speech at Wesley College in Dover, DE. It was fabulous. He also answered the students’ questions.

Newt is the only candidate who makes sense. I cannot listen to Willard, couldn’t listen to Rick, and can’t stand Obama for more than two seconds...

Hey. I been missing you. I was going to mail you but might as well ask you here, in case anyone else, could offer some input..

You once listed an impressive array of Newt's military teaching credentials, and as per norm, your post was very thorough and thoughtful. I saved it - and yep! - now can't remember where... do you happen to have a copy of that, which you could send me?

Or could I by any chance do a search through my own pings? I tried to find that feature but could not..

He is doubling down on reaching out to delegates right now, and actually has more pledged delegates in PA than romney or santorum. He is also doing a lot of college stuff... as most of them will provide the set-up, as he has no advance men anymore... this is like the shoe-stringiest campaign you could imagine right now...

do you know if that Wesley appearance is going to be on cspan tv? I am at work and can't stream...

Stay Strong! Hang Tight! We can do this!!

Newt ain’t Jesus, get over him and you move on...

And you ain't Einstein, so get over yourself.

Who needs you pooping on a thread like this?

If you want Willard so much, move on and get ready for your nominee.

As for me, I'll fight for Newt because he is the last one standing against Willard. And I hope Jesus is in it, because America needs His help more than ever.

Fox is Romney central.

I think it is more that Fox is Republican "establishment" central. Fox News is basically the home of GOP conventional wisdom. There are a lot of center right personalities (when compared to the other networks), but very few are actually conservative. If I didn't know better I'd have thought Brit Hume was officially on Romney's payroll.

To be fair to Fox though, it did seem like Newt was on either Hannity or Greta almost constantly. The line up on those 2 shows seems to be Newt, Dick Morris and Karl Rove almost every night. Gingrich did at least have a chance to get his message out and it was Romney's negative ad blitz in Florida that damaged him far more than anything Fox News did.

Joe- you know that I never had anything against Rick-— he just kept on ducking Newt’s debate challenges. (LOL)

I voted for Santorum, but I love hearing this fight from Newt!

I hope Santorum supports will switch to Newt now. Not that we can stop Romney from winning the nomination, but we can send a message still to the liberal GOP establishment.

I never thought I'd see the day when Newt Gingrich, of all people, would be whining like a petulant child.

One person's whining like a petulant child is another's taking it to 'em. What have you done to help save America today? What do you plan to do tomorrow?

>>I have lost all respect for Fox because of the way they presented any information regarding Newt as well as the manipulation of his comments.<<

Drop your cable and watch them for free on the internet.
Starve them. I did.

“So, I take it, all you people are going to vote for Obama?”

So, I take it, you are going to vote for Willard, who is neither conservative, nor republican? In his own words, the (R) after his name doesn’t stand for Republican, but for Reformer. IMO, it stands for Rat.

Well, Newt’s out and he knows it.

I don’t know what he has to gain by venting all this bitterness against Fox.

I love the Morning Show and Fox and Friends ... very fun and unbiased.

People claim they want fair and balanced but they really want only their side. I have not seen the bias against Newt... he had a lot of time this morning and last night.

The fact is, he is irrelevant at this point and they are giving him more time than he rates in view of his importance.

Very immature of him to vent this way. He was my candidate after Perry dropped out and I still like him but he keeps making his character flaws more apparent with this kind of stuff.

Well you and all who proclaim they won’t vote for Romney ARE voting for Obama.

I have no respect for the doom and gloomers, the whiners, the moaners and the stiff-necked perfectionists who brag they will not vote for Romney.

It’s Romney or Obama.

I’ll take Romney.

Yet Will also helped prepare Reagan for his debates against Carter.

Unfortunately, I’ve come to the conclusion that the only reason 50% of the tea partyers voted for Romney is that they just believed he was the only one who could defeat the present idiot incumbent.

Competence and business acumen trumps ideology this time around. And FEAR makes you do crazy things. Even conservatives will go to desperate measures to get rid of the Marxist.
