MIAMI (CBSMiami) – George Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, according to the Associated Press.

Additionally, Zimmerman has been taken into custody, but it hasn’t been revealed where he is being held.

CBSMiami has confirmed that State Attorney Angela Corey, who was appointed as a special prosecutor in the case, will hold an announcement about the charges at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville.

That paragraph does not apply at all. Read the part you truncated: "by a person other than the person engaged in the perpetration of or in the attempt to perpetrate such felony, the person perpetrating or attempting to perpetrate such felony is guilty of murder in the second degree..."

In other words, Martin would need to have been killed by somebody other than Zimmerman, while Zimmerman was engaged in "aggravated stalking." And Martin would not need to have been the target of the stalking.

This provision is so that when a person is killed during commission of another crime, and the perpetrator is not the one who killed the victim, he can still be charged with the murder.

Show trial. Any decent lawyer can get this guy off at the jury selection stage.

I don't know the area but it seems the location of the trial and the type of people in the potential jury pool will make or break the outcome. All it takes is one juror though to win his freedom so it would seem likely he would walk

I could not disagree more. Had this fallen into some hole of eternal 'investigation' something else would have taken it's place in the news cycle in short order.

Charging him, if there's not some very damning evidence not known about, means he'll be found not guilty and then hang on to your hats. Sides have been chosen over this situation in a much bigger way than they were during the Rodney King issue.

Good grief. In the course of the criminal trial, the facts and the forensics will prove Zimmerman is innocent. He will be acquitted and then, if he is not hunted down and murdered by the "Justice Squad" will have to endure the expense of a civil trial, courtesy of the decedent's family.
