Good points. Though I think you’re off about when Zimmerman left his car. My understanding is that he was still on the phone with the dispatcher for part of the time he was on foot chasing Martin.
I too fell for the original story, in pretty much the same way you did.
This is kind of scary, because without the internet little of this countervailing info would have come out, and I would still believe the MSM story.
Had you heard that Z had led a public campaign to get two of the cops who investigated him punished in a case involving the beating of a homeless black man? At the very least, this would mean they had little reason to like him or cut him any slack.
I think a lot of people owe Zimmerman an apology at the very least, and given that most journalists don’t have such integrity I hope that when this mess is over Zimmerman retains a good lawyer and starts suing the lamestream press one after the other for defamation. I hope he starts with NBC which edited the 911 call to make Zimmerman sound racist and CNN that must have said 100 times “it sounds like he’s saying f****** c***”
Holder will make you right again. Zimmerman will be found guilty of a race related civil rights violation. Zimmerman should have just laid there and died. Racist a$$hole for wanting to live
Your blog entry is the most coherent and factually most complete compendium of this mess I have read so far. Much better than *any* mainstream media account. Good job!
Don’t feel like the lone ranger in regards to initially “finding Zimmerman guilty” and changing your mind. I did exactly the same thing, for most of the same reasons — I even argued Martin’s case on this forum — before the rest of the facts came to light and I changed my mind 180 degrees.
Thanks and FRegards

Monday morning I was listening to a black radio station here in NYC (WBLS). The host of the morning show is Steve Harvey, a comedian and also a person who has (or had) his own television show. That morning he presented a segment that was called Ask the Judge. In the segment a judge listens to problems individual callers present on-the-air and he (the Judge) attempts to give legal direction.
Just before the start of the segment, Steve Harvey introduces the Judge. He was none other the the Judge Mathis from one of those judge shows on TV.
So Steve asks the Judge, youre from Detroit, right? Judge Mathis responds that yes he is from Detroit but he is presently down in Florida to, help make sure justice is served. Steve Harvey then agrees with Judge Mathis that justice must be served and then tells the Judge to,just do your part and get him inside and well take over from there.
If this guy is imprisoned, he is as good as dead.
Bob is a contrite sucker, let the riots begin.
Let it be a lesson to me. Never, ever trust the media to report the story. They are always working an angle. In this case, it has become as obvious as the sunrise that they spun this story to inflame racial tensions in order to motivate Eric Holder's people to come out in droves to vote for Eric Holder's boss.
My *hunch* at this moment is that the kid was a gangsta punk in the making (twitter/facebook posts I've seen attributed to him...school suspensions) and that Zimmerman was a reasonably respectable,if not fully respectable, guy.

IMHO, Zimmerman was screaming for help not because his head was being bashed, but because a life-threatening struggle over a gun had ensued. Martin made the mistake of assaulting an armed person, THAT is the overriding factor here.
Goddamn it, SwampSniper, don’t you know better than to just accept the media narrative? I mean, comon Mr. Owens, you know better than that.
Nice summary by Owens. Thanks for posting.
Good rundown of events. I have to admit that I had a myopic view of the incident initially. I thought Zimmerman was a cowboy out looking for trouble. I started getting suspicious when a witness, a blonde woman, came forward early to say that she heard the cries for help and the shot and concluded that it was Trayvon crying for help because, according to her logic, Trayvon was dead, ergo he must have been the one crying for help, and she was pretty darn sure of herself. I knew at that point that she may end up eating her words and there may be more to the story.
Blogs are news?? Who gives a sh*t what this pinhead thinks?
No, he didn't. The questionable judgement was Martin backtracking to confront Zimmerman.
Glad the author finally figured it out over the course of days or weeks. It took many of us here about two seconds.

I got fooled too. Embarrassing.
