Even if you're right about Santorum’s reasons, please don't say things like that. Not today. We need to do whatever we can to stop Romney and that job is now tremendously more difficult.
I've been saying for months that I can live with Gingrich but prefer Santorum. I now have an extremely difficult task to try to convince Santorum supporters who I have known for years, and who were elected by our county caucus as Santorum delegates, to vote at the district and state levels for Gingrich.
Newt Gingrich reached out to Santorum supporters today. I appreciate that. His statement was gracious and I want to affirm his efforts.
I hope Gingrich's supporters are equally gracious.
I’m right with you on this, Darrell. This is no time for recriminations.
All conservatives have good reasons to oppose Gov.Romney. That should unite us in our efforts to deny the self-professed “Progressive” ex-governor the Republican candidacy.
As most well know, Progressive is just another name for socialist. To most of us that is flat-out unAmerican.
Let’s see what can be done to help the last remaining conservative in this race.
We need every Santorum supporter to be a GOP supporter at crunch time.
And, folks, it's crunch time.
Well said. Santorum is a good man who obviously loves this country and is willing to fight for her. There were lots of reasons for people to support him, and if he’d had the kind of money that Romney had the race may have gone totally differently.
People can say what they will about the polling data, but as one who, like Rick, has lost a child, that tension between being there to fight for your country and being there to hold your child is an unbearable tension. I have nothing but respect for him and his family and ache with them over this whole season. We’ve all lost so much, in so many ways. Sometimes life is just plain ugly, and the politics reveals the ugliness so starkly. It brings me to tears that Rick is leaving this battle to go back to a place of love, nurture, and sacrifice. A glimmer of beauty in the middle of this mess.
I think about Samwise Gamgee in “The Two Towers”, who realized the stories that stuck with you were the ones full of danger and darkness, where the heroes had every chance of turning back but they didn’t because they were holding onto something. When Frodo asked him what they were holding onto, he said that there’s some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.
Rick is holding onto his daughter. We’re all holding on for our daughters and sons. We’re holding on for each other, and for justice and freedom. Rick needs to give his daughter a lap to sit on right now. And we need to give him a world where a dad can hold his daughter and believe there’s a future for her. Rick and Newt and I and others know that Jesus gave His life to give Rick’s daughter and mine an eternal future, and our job as long as we’re stuck here in time is to give our lives for each other.
This isn’t a time for gloating or attacking. It’s a time for us to stand shoulder to shoulder, holding onto what we love: life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, freedom of speech, religion, and association, equal protection, due process, the checks and balances and separation of powers...
I hope you can convince those delegates that the torch Santorum is handing off is the same torch that Gingrich carries, and it’s worth fighting for. Together.
