Newt Gingrich Issues Statement on Santorums Departure, Tells Mike Huckabee Hell Finally Get to Be 1-on-1 With Romney
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was just on the Mike Huckabee Radio show, and commented on Santorum suspending his own presidential campaign just moments ago. On the show, Gingrich discussed finally getting to be 1-on-1′ with Romney, how he will campaign going forward, and a possible debate in North Carolina with the current front-runner.
Below are some highlights from Huckabees interview with Gingrich:
I did not get a heads up in advance. We have been talking for two weeks, and I knew this was a real possibility in his mind. I do know that he had begun to realize that when you are up against all of Wall Street, it is very difficult. The money machine makes it difficult to have a competitive race.
I am not focused on going after Romney; I want to focus on the issues and Barack Obama. I will admit it was a slugging match in Florida; people who like me dont want me down in the gutter. We will see what Governor Romney decides. I am going to focus on the Republican platform and why Obama is a grave threat to this country.
Our folks are making calls to undecideds and those for Rick [Santorum]; we have been talking to someone in North Carolina, and there may be a debate [...] between Romney and me. I would like to have an open dialogue just the two of us, a chat.
Here is the full statement released by Gingrichs press secretary:

I’m right with you on this, Darrell. This is no time for recriminations.
All conservatives have good reasons to oppose Gov.Romney. That should unite us in our efforts to deny the self-professed “Progressive” ex-governor the Republican candidacy.
As most well know, Progressive is just another name for socialist. To most of us that is flat-out unAmerican.
Let’s see what can be done to help the last remaining conservative in this race.
Why? Newt won what, one state? and a handful of other delegates? At this point Romney views him as just a gadfly.
Likewise challenging the Obama: what’s $1M to someone who writes $1000M checks without caring about account balances?
At this point Newt is playing the “useful idiot” role, providing the appearance of an opponent while having no chance. Both ways, Newt’s relevance is nigh unto zero.
(Don’t get me wrong. I’d rather Newt be POTUS than any of ‘em.)
TLI is right.
A coalition of conservative heavy weights could rouse the depressed and take it home to the GOPE.
I did comment at Santorum’s website begging him to throw in with Newt.
Rick can slow Romney if he will.
When I heard last week that he might drop out before the race as it would hurt him politically if he lost in PA, I was thinking “Good idea. When he runs for something again, I’m sure no one will bring it up that he dropped out before the vote.” I imagine he also doesn’t have the courage to hand over his delegates to Newt. Am ashamed that I sent him a little bit of money early on.
This whole election has been wallowing with the pigs.
Help how? I’d like to, but see no path to relevancy, much less success.
What was Rush’s exact quote at the end of his show?
I paraphrased it, and I put my own words in parenthesis, as they do in professional articles.
You also paraphrased it, so give us the exact quote, and then get back to us.
Fox has turned into RINO Central. I'm shocked that they haven't thrown Sarah off the network. BTW Sarah and Eric Bolling are co-hosting a show this Friday per drill baby drill.
Dreams are nice, but then there’s reality. Newt wasn’t catching on; Rick Santorum was.
Time to wake up and smell the disaster that Newt’s ego caused our country.
I just dont see Newt as a “useful idiot” although some surely do.
I see Newt as an American loving, Capitalist loving, Constitution loving Patriot to continue this fight when it doesn’t look like he has a chance ( but he DOES ).
What good is his message about how Great America is, without him to deliver it ? Noone Else except the late and Great Ronald Reagan can speak like Newt. Coming from anyone but Newt, it just doesn’t sound right...know what I mean ???
The Fat Lady hasn’t sung yet so it’s not over til the LSM tells us who won in Nov.
( GO NEWT GO ! )
Please peddle that nonsense somewhere else.
Your question is a good one.
Try Newt.org. They may be able to provide you with pointers. At this point the key appears to be uncommitted delegates to the convention and how they eventually vote.
There is 4+ months until the convention in Tampa, and 6+ months until the election in November. In politics that can equal a lifetime.
To give you an idea of how it can go, in October of 1980, Ronald Reagan was polling at 30% but he won the election in November. Sometimes it is always darkest just before light breaks through for the day dawns.
“Never, never, never, never give up.” Sir Winston Churchill.
Rollins is such a pain. If this is true about the ad set to run in PA, and with the polls so close between him and Romney, then Rick like Newt in Florida before him would never have the money to overcome it and would be slated for an embarrassing loss in his home state.
Rollins alluded to this being why he suspended before his home state race rather than after. I do believe that part.

Newt is still delusional as usual. People had a chance to vote for him and chose not to.
Newt is as flip floppy and untrustworthy as Mitt.
Seems to me Mittens wants—and needs—Texas’ delegates in the worst possible way.
