What a contemptible little coward! Now Mark Steyn is the last good writer there. Reminds me of when they fired Ann Coulter shortly after 9/11.

National Review doesn’t DESERVE John Derbyshire.

There was someone else fired a while back from either NR or WS, who now posts on a site we can’t link to here, (named for for Virginia Dare). It’s a common thing in this country for people to be persecuted because they tell the truth about race and sex etc.

Late to the party, but after reading 200 replies I will say this. IMO, far too many on this thread, and on FR, are so naive about race relations in this nation that it can't be attributed to anything but willful ignorance or the lack of a will to survive.
When the Obama-Wright connection came out, the statements that they had “...set back race relations (pick a number) years” that appeared here on FR would irk me and I would tell those FReepers that they were naive. Today, I normally just shrug and move on. But after reading Derbyshire’s article the other day, I feel he should be commended for his (thankfully) un-PC, accurate and truthful words. I have lived my life by those words and I survived nearly 60 years of living in “the most diverse county in the US” and working, day and night, for almost 10 years in the streets, basements, backyards and rooftops of Harlem, el Barrio and Washington Heights as a middle aged white man of average build....often alone. Today I live in WV. Does the fact that this state has a 94+% white population have any bearing on my move here...youdamnbetcha. Does this make me a racist?....I don't know....and I care less.
I've survived and I will continue to survive until my Maker decides otherwise....but I will not jump in front of the speeding bus that passes for racial tolerance in this nation in order to find out His decision

Dogs/fleas. Serves him right for taking money from those weasels. That rag is more Stalinist than THE NATION.

They've hated him since he opposed the Iraq war. This is a way to silence him for good and ruin his career with a nasty smear. Like they did Joe Sobran.

By the way - he actually served in the military. He's not Rich and Jonah's type.

We never would have published it, but the main reason that people noticed it is that it is by a National Review writer. Derb is effectively using our name to get more oxygen for views with which we’d never associate ourselves otherwise.

How deluded can you get? It's not 1978, Rich. Nobody takes NR seriously anymore. I read takimag all the time. I occasionally read NRO, usually to make fun of them. They've devolved into the print version of Sean Hannity.

This is a very interesting blurb from Rich Lowry in the following way:

Here are the words in the Lowry blurb used to describe either Derbyshire, his work, or his views:

“deeply literate”
“funny”
“incisive”
“delightful”
“maddening”
“outrageous”
“cranky”
“provocative”
“nasty and indefensible”
“views with which we’d never associate ourselves otherwise”
“so outlandish it constitutes a kind of letter of resignation”

Notice that in all of these descriptors, Rich Lowry himself has “danced around the line on these issues”.

Not one of the adjectives addresses the most important point that any journalist, including Rich Lowry, should be concerns with:

Was the article “true” or was it “false”?

Don’t expect Rich Lowry to have enough journalistic integrity and guts to address that issue.

Instead he wants to talk about whether or not it’s “outlandish”.

His latest provocation, in a webzine, lurches from the politically incorrect to the nasty and indefensible.

And 100 percent accurate.

Funny, Derb has been taking a lot of flak for this piece but I have yet to see anyone refute it.

John Derbyshire is about to hit 67, and is undergoing cancer treatment. He had indicated, via a third party on Steve Sailer's blog, that he would be grateful for any donations that fans and well-wishers can muster up via his website, which contains the archives of all the material he's ever done, including the transcripts of his acerbic and amusing weekly radio broadcasts.

RE: Reminds me of when they fired Ann Coulter shortly after 9/11

Evidently they were right to do so. Ann has shown herself to be a complete phony. Her whoring for Romney, a left-winger loathe to any conservative, makes her dead to me, as she is to most conservatives.

Yawn.

Karl Keating called for firing Darby for his pro-abort views combined with agnosticism. That was time to fire him, not now for this unremarkable set of statistical observations.

The article reminded me that I need to do the Talk with my adolescent daughter, just in case she hadn’t figured it all out for herself already.

Lowry is a punk. He was a decent political repoter but is way out of his league as editor. National Review was a great magazine under John O'Sullivan, who left (or was forced out, depending on the account) about 1999 - 2000. He served up strong meat, publishing Peter Brimelow on immigration and treating Murray and Herrnstein (authors of The Bell Curve) favorably on the issues of the heritability of intelligence, and race and intelligence. Neither did he shy away from the rampant social dysfunction of black America. He gave some ink to squishes like the third-world immigration enthusiast John J. Miller, but on balance took a hard and unapologetic conservative line, political correctness be damned. Soon after he left, National Review sharply reversed itself on its more controversial stands and I gave up my subscription (of some 10 years) in short order. I can't say I'm surprised it's come to this, though that makes it no less deplorable. Did Pat Buchanan box Lowry's ears on The McLaughlin Group today?

Dr. Hanson is good and some of his writings are only at NRO unless he’s putting them back on his website, he stopped for a while.

I personally found the article to be racist. I felt as though the article lumped all black people together (with the exception of what the author referred to as “intelligent and well socialized” black people which he referred to as a slim group). I think it’s terrible to stereotype an entire group of people like that, and I got a feeling of superiority from the author of the piece. I truly believe that all people are made in the image of God and should be judged individually on their characters, not the color of their skin.

Who is the embarrassment to NR?
