Conservatives ally for a reset of election expectations (RINOs: we shouldn't seek conservatives)
The Washington Times ^ | 4/4/2012 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Posted on 04/06/2012 11:21:33 AM PDT by darrellmaurina

Some influential conservative thinkers have concluded that Mitt Romney’s struggle to ignite voter enthusiasm reflects a more serious problem for Republicans in setting unrealistic expectations for their presidential nominee. Calling their alliance Project Liberty, the newly formed group says the former Massachusetts governor cannot beat President Obama unless tea party members and the GOP’s activists — including conservatives on the Republican National Committee — adjust their mindset about insisting on a fully formed, ideologically reliable candidate as their standard-bearer.... Project Liberty backers have concluded that Mr. Romney will not win the White House on the basis of something he is not — a 21st century American philosopher-king. Nor will he win the presidency unless the right’s various interest groups, from tea party activists to RNC conservatives, unite. The right’s unrealistic search for the knight in shining armor helps explain the rise and fall of a string of challengers to Mr. Romney in the nomination merry-go-round this year. Project Liberty’s founders also say that longing explains why tea partyers split their vote about evenly between Mr. Romney and Rick Santorum in the Illinois primary, late in the primary season.

I believe you are correct. Romney's not a Marxist, he doesn't hate America, and he will not bow before dictators. Those may be the only good things I can say about him. But compared with the prospect of four more years of Obama - which will be the death of America, for real - it may have to do. A piss cocktail is a whole lot better than cyanide.

  1. "Romney's not a Marxist" - although his father was an enthusiastic supporter of Alinsky.
  2. "He doesn't hate America" - probably so
  3. "he will not bow before dictators" - that's nice
Romney will run the Presidency like he ran Massachusetts. He will be a place-holder for the left, and will get blamed for the economy which will nose-dive beginning in 2013, thus opening the door for a roaring DemocRAT comback in 2016.

Republicans in the House and Senate will be disinclined to go against the leader of their Party. So which is better, a leftist Republican who will run roughshod over conservatism, or a lame-duck Marxist that Republicans in the House and Senate can fight against? I like Alexander Hamilton's quote:

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures."

You think they’ll not be screwed by Romney? Difference will be YOU helped make it happen and he did it in YOUR name.

If these two a$$holes were correct, we would NEVER have considered Newt or Santorum. I hate ****ing liars and these two operatives are lying or so misinformed that they should resign their position today!

ither way, you get what we have had for the last 3 1/2 years. Just this time, it would have an R instead of a D, but idealogically, it is the SAME Animal

The difference is that if Romney is elected we get eight more years of a liberal in the White House as opposed to only four more.

"Yes, I am gonna send the GOP a strong message and screw my children and grandchildren at the same time 'cause I didn't get my way...so there....spit!"

Oh, Mitt Romney is going to get the deficit under control and reform entitlements? You can't be serious. Romney doesn't have the guts. If Romney gets in, he'll take the easy route to reduce the deficit by raising taxes on the rich and sticking the nation with a VAT tax. He'll seek to implement Romneycare nationwide, screwing over the kids and grandchildren.

McCain was at least pro-life and a war hero. But I didn’t vote for him, I voted for Sarah. I will not pull the lever for the abortionist/socialist big government RINO Romney. And I don’t care who he selects as a running mate. Never again.

FUMTR!! FUGOP!!

I don't think a President Romney will make it past four years. BTW, did you know that Chuck U. Schumer will run the 2013 Presidential Inauguration? Immediately after Romney is sworn in on January 21, 2013, old Chuck will run to the cameras and announce "it's Romney's economy now!"

No matter what's been done these last 4 years, Romney and the Republicans will be blamed for the Greece-class economic nose-dive. I predict that in 2016, Obama will run for re-election (he can, you know) with the message "See, I TOLD you so!"

The essential problem with doing what many of us are sorely tempted to do (sit it out) is that Obama is not likely to be a "lame-duck" anything. He is unlike any President we have ever had, and the full weight of the organized Left is poised to move hard and fast behind him if he is re-elected. They mean business this time, and by "business" I mean a power grab beyond imagining, facilitated by a planned insurrection.

Even if you doubt that might happen, consider this: we are one Supreme Court justice away from a radical and permanent alteration of the Constitution from a doctrine of limited government to a tool of social democracy. Romney may not be precisely inclined to support "strict constructionists", but Obama will certainly appoint radicals.

Yet another Washington Times Romney puff piece? These were the same ones who tried to claim Newt’s campaign’s financial disclosures were shady and some other pie-in-the-sky hit piece on Santorum that I can’t remember. It wasn’t hard to find an acceptable conservative candidate. The polls show that the only reason Romney won most states was because people thought “he could beat Obama.” This is a piece of political analysis none of them are qualified to make, but it is what they regurgitated from endless streams of “conservative” media repeating that slogan as fact. Tell the Washington Times to keep their lefty liberal Taxachusetts candidate and stop treating Republican voters like mindless sheep.
