Nebraskas new abortion law forced one woman to give birth to her terminally ill, premature baby who she then helplessly held dying in her arms.
Danielle Deaver gave birth to one pound, ten ounce Elizabeth last December and could do nothing but hold and comfort the baby with her husband, Robb, as the newborn struggled to breath and died fifteen agonizing minutes later.

We lost a 30 week baby at 3 days of age due to this. He weighed 3-11 at birth but his lungs were not developed enough. NICU's were new and the technology wasn't what it is today. He was transferred to one immediately after birth and I never saw him until we buried him.
I don't understand why plans weren't made to treat this baby immediately since the docs were aware of what was expected. It doesn't sound as if the medical personnel tried or the mother would not have been holding the baby.
I would think that they feel abandoned (and blaming it on the law) in that they had an extra ten days of anticipating the death of their baby with no hope of survival.
“doctors told the couple that their baby had almost no chance of surviving”
My nephews were born at 23 weeks...glad they didn’t have this doctor.
I would say this Nebraska law worked the way it was intended. Let those who would side with these parents work to get the law repealed...I believe that’s how it still works.
This couple was in a tough situation. Sounds like the doctors convinced them that there was no hope and that they could save the child some pain by giving it an injection that would allow it to die in its sleep rather than struggle for breath after being born.
When something like this happens the parents are the people least capable of making a reasonable decision, because the grief and shock gets in the way. That’s why it’s so critical to have doctors who will be strong. Unfortunately, doctors are often quick to say there’s no hope rather than fight for life - especially if they have an agenda or guilt regarding their own involvement in abortion.
I’m willing to give these parents some slack because of what they’re going through, but I’d sure like to know what the doctors were thinking. Their judgment was not clouded by grief and hormones, but could be clouded by guilt or an agenda. That’s the risk of being attended by “pro-choice” doctors.
I’m sorry for your loss. Our first was stillborn at 42 weeks. I don’t think a day has gone by when I have not thought of her. Someday I will see her and hold her.
My understanding is that if the doctors have advance warning of a seriously premature birth there are medications they can give to enhance/speed up lung development.
There’s not a lot of information in this article, but I question the doctors’ commitment to try to preserve the life of this child.
Maybe somebody who knows more can give us more perspective.
My grandboys were born way premature, about the size of a woman’s fist. Just looking at them I believed they had no chance. They were in incubators for weeks.
They’re 21 now. Nice kids.
There are NO necessary abortions. By definition during an abortion the baby is killed before he is extracted. They either scramble their little brains or chop them to bits.
There is simply no situation in which the health of the mother is in such a precarious position that you need to abort, and yet you have time to waste killing the baby.
There are only necessary unplanned deliveries.
In the pro-abortion comments on the bottom, it seems some have swallowed the koolaid about abortion being painless.
There are multiple comments about “letting the child die painlessly in the womb” - obviously they have no idea what a violent painful death an abortion is.
So wait...they wanted to abort the baby so it wouldn’t experience pain? What the heck do these people think the baby would have felt if they’d aborted it?
It sounds to me less like they cared about whether the baby was in pain and more like they are upset they had to watch their baby die? Are they crazy? They had fifteen minutes with their child...that’s more than some people ever get. They would rather murder a child than hold their own baby for even a brief moment?
These people are rotten and selfish.
They may be thinking the child would be aborted by lethal injection (which many states don’t allow because it is considered too inhumane to be used to execute capital criminals) followed by induced childbirth of the dead child - which could have been done anyway, to prevent a 10-day wait if there was no intention of trying to save the child (which was apparently the case, since they didn’t put the baby in an incubator after birth).
The story leaves a lot of questions about the judgment and actions of the doctors, IMHO.
I think they can do something to keep the lungs from "sticking together" for lack of a better description. Not sure that there is much to speed development.
Perhaps the doctors had their own agenda here - it doesn't sound like these parents wanted an "abortion of convenience". I think the parents are being used.
They claim in utero Children can feel no pain.
The fact is that the “necessary Abortions” are statistically insignificant to the point that they almost do not exist. Only in the case of Ectopic Pregnancies, A true danger to the mothers life, The procedure of tube removal to relieve the condition actually causes an abortion as a necessary act to eliminate the Fallopian obstruction. Beyond that, there are almost NO necessary abortions.
The increase of medical testing a=has brought to hte forefront the naked selfishness of a vast amount of the human population. They are little more than animals or worse. We are the only species that a mother deliberately kills her in utero children and almost 100% of the time it is strictly convenience.
So her water broke and the doctors gave up? I’ve hear of many cases where delivery was delyed for weeks, even months to give the baby a chance. http://www.babycenter.com/204_polish-woman-saves-premature-babies-with-75-days-in-labor_10364797.bc
Regardless, this is all about HER wants and desires. As soon as a problem arose and the child may have been less than perfect, she wanted OUT! They are the typical Westerner, Fat, stupid, spoiled and selfish.
As far as all the pain, my wife and I have buried a child who had special needs. Not once was I unhappy about any of the time we where afforded to spend with him.
I’d rather have the chance to hold my baby for a couple of hours than to have it ripped apart before even being born.

Now that’s kind of mean, and I live in the Northeast.
Steroids are routinely administered to preemies and micropreemies to hyperstimulate lung growth. Very effective treatment.
Thank you.
