Thank you for contacting me regarding the National Right-To-Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 822). I value your input and strive to keep you updated on the important issues facing us today.
On February 18, 2011, Representative Cliff Stearns introduced the National Right-To-Carry Reciprocity Act. This legislation would allow any person with a valid state-issued permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms.
As you may know, I support the individual right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I also believe that individual states should be allowed to decide what constitutes safe and responsible gun ownership so long as it does not violate that basic constitutional right.
Under the proposed House legislation, a national concealed carry reciprocity amendment would obligate states like Massachusetts to recognize the concealed carry permits of other states, even if the bearer of that permit does not meet the requirements established by Massachusetts to receive such a concealed carry permit. I believe that the people of Massachusetts are best positioned to decide what is best for Massachusetts. Therefore, if H.R. 822 or similar legislation comes before the Senate, I will vote no.

The closest in recent times was Ed King, a Democrat. Before him, you have to go all the way back to Calvin Coolidge.
I think it does, though I don't agree with him. I also live in a state (NY) that would probably vote the same way. It's a different world up here. I stay because it's home and my friends and family are here.
That's a decision that entails much Barbra Streisand.
I know Scott personally, and that is not quite so.
I was working in my garage when Scott jogged up, introduced himself as a Republican, and said, "I'm running (literally) to every home in our district to ask you to vote for me for MA Representative."
When I asked where he stood on defense, he said, "I'm an officer in the National Guard, I support the Second Amendment -- and I carry. What else do you want to know?"
Compared to MA liberals, he looks conservative. Compared to real conservatives, he looks liberal.
I no longer support Scott, and I'm sorry I encouraged him to run for national office.
Yep, compared to liberal MA, Brown looks fairly conservative. Compared to REAL conservatives, he looks liberal.

Most police carry and the vast majority of them are anti-gun. Sorry, being an officer in the Nation guard doesn't make him pro gun any more than being senator form IL and then President makes you progun.

His National Guard intro had nothing to do with his RKBA answer; it merely introduced him as pro-military.
The LEO occupation requires carrying - and some LEOs prefer to have a monopoly on carrying. Scott Brown, as an individual citizen, personally chose to carry in MA -- as did I.
Personal discussions with Scott (and his in-State voting) convinced me that he actively supported RKBA in MA..
However, his current position places his allegiance to his Commonwealth's laws above the national rights of individuals. I know he is wrong.
No State (or more local) law should trump the individual right guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Because RKBA is protected by the National Constitution, no lesser laws should infringe upon it, and all should honor it equally.
To me, Scott is saying, "I have my MA LTC; the rest of you from other States can take a hike."
Viewed from within MA, that is a pro-gun position. Viewed from other States, it is anti-2A -- and is supportive of State infringement of RKBA. MA is discriminatory: it is "may issue". Individual town police chiefs call the shots -- and many chiefs simply refuse to issue LTCs...
As I said, Brown has fought for 2A rights of MA residents, but he now wants to put MA TOWN POLICE CHIEFS above the US Constitution -- and that is where we part ways.
As illustrated in my graphic, he looked good when compared to "my" district's US Senator, Chappaquiddick Teddy, and US Representative, Bahney Fwank...
Obviously, I am happy to be out of the "Masshole", and am very glad to be safely back home in "God's Country"!!!

Viewed through the lens of the US Constitution, Scott has shown himself to be far too liberal for me to support for national office. I no longer can vote on him re State office... And, as I clearly said: I no longer support Scott Brown for any national office
