Marion Barry's mouth set him up. The disgraced former mayor of Washington, D.C., who was caught on tape in a 1987 crack cocaine sting, made an even bigger disgrace of himself and his city on Tuesday. Celebrating a Democratic primary victory, the city councilman attacked small businesses owned by "Asians" in his district. Then the race-baiting clown doubled down.
Barry told supporters in D.C.'s Ward 8: "We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops. They ought to go." Once pushed out, Barry promised, he would replace the foreign invaders with "African-American business people." Barry then took to the social networking platform Twitter to expound on the perils of "dirty" Asian shops in his neighborhood.
As documented by my Twitter curation start-up Twitchy.com, Barry posted photos of supposedly hazardous stores -- including Chinese restaurants surrounded not by trash or toxic waste, but by Plexiglas barriers and reinforced doors. Barry explained that Asian-owned businesses that had the audacity to protect themselves from crime were "lowering standards" in his constituents' communities.
In Barry's bizarre world, law-abiding entrepreneurs who take steps to prevent robberies are the ones who threaten Ward 8's quality of life -- not the armed thugs who threaten honest livelihoods in the first place. Vigilant wealth creators taking care of their families? Scourge of D.C. Profanity-spewing drug addicts inciting hatred against successful achievers of the American Dream? Model citizens!
Crazy Barry doesn't just need another round of rehab. He needs a reality check.
As a commenter on DCist.com noted, 2010 Census data showed that "Asians made up 0.4 percent of the Ward 8 population (blacks made up 93.5 percent, a 1 percent increase from 2000). If anything, Asians are moving out, not in -- the Asian population decreased 13.6 percent (from 301 people to 260 people) between 2000 and 2010. Meanwhile, the child poverty rate in Ward 8 sits at 48.3 percent, a 1.2 percent increase since 2000 -- in contrast, the District's overall child poverty rate decreased 3 percent since 2000. Now that's what I call defying the odds."
If Barry's ignorant slurs had come out of the mouth of, say, former GOP Gov. George Allen of Virginia (pummeled for his "macaca" gaffe), there would be calls for his head from every civil rights organization in the Beltway. While the Washington Post reported that Barry "apologized," he showed typical fake penitence for "offending" Asians and claimed he was "taken out of context."
By "Asian," he blubbered to a local TV reporter, he didn't mean "Asian." He really meant all "those persons (who) come into our community, whatever color they are; it happened to be Asian initially." Put the prejudice pipe down, buddy.
Instead of showing true remorse, Barry dug in deeper with even more divisive, entitled and militant us vs. them propaganda: "We're spending our money there, and we demand respect," he told the Washington Post. "We demand they participate in community affairs. We demand they give jobs to Ward 8 people regardless of their cultural situation. That's as American as apple pie."
Spoken like a true racial racketeer.
But Barry's not alone. His incendiary rhetoric echoes other liberal black leaders who have long made a sport of scapegoating Asian immigrant entrepreneurs across the country. Just this February, Jeffery Muhammad, the veteran Nation of Islam leader in Dallas, lashed out at Asian-American business owners for being "just the latest in a long line of people who have come to this country -- like Jews, Italians, Indians and now Asians -- who have sucked the blood of and exploited the black community."
Just a fringe sentiment, you say?
Rapper Ice Cube, now a mainstream actor and comedian, penned "Black Korea" to demonize Korean store owners in South Central Los Angeles:
So they watch every damn move that I make.
They hope I don't pull out a gat and try to rob
they funky little store, but b***h, I got a job.
... So don't follow me, up and down your market,
or your little chop suey ass'll be a target
of the nationwide boycott.
And Al Sharpton, now a prominent MSNBC host, was caught on tape stoking hatred against Chinese-owned chicken restaurants and Korean grocers:
"We're the black chicken friers of the universe. We gonna go buy some Col. Sanders chicken. Then the Chinamen comin' and (inaudible) ... Koreans sell us watermelons. We eat watermelons all our lives. But they gonna come cut it up, put it in a bucket with a rubber band around it, and we gonna buy it like it's somethin' and we didn't know what it was."
Few dare to call out black racism against Asians. Those who do are met with nasty racial epithets, of course. Last year, when I called attention to flash mobs of black assailants in Denver, Wisconsin, Philadelphia and New York who were explicitly targeting Asian students and elderly Asian women for brutal assaults, my e-mail box filled with vitriol:
"(D)oes your family still live in poverty? Not anymore, since you married into the tribe ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME GI."
"Shut up whore."
President Obama, commander-in-chief of post-racial America, was unavailable for comment.

These darn minority Asians aren’t playing the game! They aren’t supposed to succeed. Don’t they know the man be holding them down?
Pretty soon, all these Asians with jobs and money gonna be pushing Marion’s people out the hood.
Even after he was called on his racist "gaffe," when he should no longer have been speaking "off the cuff," but rather have been more wary, and choosing his words carefully, he didn't shy away from saying something as patently absurd - and still racist - as this!
Rather, he is now also accusing these shopkeepers (who only "happened" to be Asian "initially") of denying jobs to locals (from Ward 8) - for "cultural" reasons. So he is in effect still claiming that the shopkeepers are "culturally" (a code word for "ethnically") different from the locals.
Further, he accuses the shopkeepers of withholding jobs. I wonder: Does he expect these shopkeepers to somehow - "magically" - create jobs ex nihilo? Or wouldn't they have to instead stop giving them preferentially to some unidentified others (probably actual trusted family members)?

Asians didn’t own slaves in America.
In fact, quite a few Asians were indentured servents up until WWI.
Most are not in the evil 1% catagory.
Most are not rich bankers or CEOs.

It’s hard to explain.. They like to work, they make money off of selling lottery, Salems, 40’s and fifths in the worst parts of town. The employ their family members to keep costs down, they get married and they’re happy church going people.
They’re not afraid and they don’t like being robbed.
Blacks in DC want a minority to be able to push around.. The hispanics don’t take it, the gays are finally starting to push back and the asians are up next.
That city is slowly being rebuild by people with money and it’s becoming a more livable city but it’s also too expensive for those living on free Obama money, “disability” or no-show school district and metro jobs which is big part of the DC culture.
When I lived in the district, nobody and I mean NOBODY had a legit car registration (including inspections)nobody had legit cable and nobody paid any parking tickets. Clean license plates were better than gold. The process to evict someone in DC can take as long as 18 months so you pretty much don’t have to pay rent, move and start all over again.
I remember that a roommate was helping people out with their taxes and said people without jobs and income were walking in expecting to walk out with cash and got pissed when they were told that they needed a job and to be paying taxes to file a return. Truth was, he didn’t want to start up a form and tell people they owed money on their under the table job and winnings from the numbers.
I dunno, it sounds like threats and extortion to me.

Do you remember when this drug-addled, DIMocRAT loser got out of prison? His supporters sent busloads of them selves to the prison and escorted this criminal back to the WDC area. barry was then elected to the city council where he remains. These fools run the WDC government. Most of these DIMocRAT felons are actively either indicted or under investigation by the Feds. Truly shameful.
Barry sounds like Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Mugabe took away farms from white families and gave them to his cronies in the army. Food production went to zilch.

Probably because they look at the result instead of the problem.
The Asian’s probably do look at blacks funny and don’t trust the blacks. If you are innocent and upstanding, it would be annoying.
Not all blacks are out to rob or do harm but there are some who are and instead of trying to slap the bad apples into line, or clean up the issues within the black community—it is easier to be the angry and insulted victim.
Some are just plain old race-baiters and power seekers and it serves them well to keep the focus on anybody else but their own. They don’t want the race problem to go away.
If these pretenders really cared, they would quit running around looking for any table to play that race card at and instead start focusing on what they can do to change the black community.
They are hating over peoples reactions to them but people have reason to react as they do. Many haven’t been scoring well on their conduct...look and listen to much of the rap.
It is time to put that race card away and only use it for egregious situations.

Marion Barry along with demagogues like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are part of the “failure racket”. They need and want down and out blacks. They derive their power from them. If that base vanishes, their power base (i.e. “the mob”) vanishes. Asians moving into the neighborhood starting with nothing but hard work, improve their life and work their way up the ladder. Can’t have that; it puts a lie to the race baiters plea.

That’s exactly it.
They threaten the whole basis of power for the left/democRats - that minorities are inherently handicapped in this country and need the ‘rats in order to succeed.
I know for a fact that Asians and blacks and Hispanics can get along. Our mayor is black, as is one of our city aldermen. Our former mayor is married to a Korean and one of our current aldermen is married to a Filipina. Yes, our politicians fight, but race has little or nothing to do with those fights.
Race baiters need to get blasted for their bigotry.
Asians - making blacks look bad off the basketball court.
