"Santorum to 'Reengineer' Campaign"
National Review Online ^ | 4-5-12 | Robert Costa

Posted on 04/05/2012 8:46:36 PM PDT by taraytarah

Richard Viguerie, a veteran conservative activist and top Santorum supporter, tells National Review Online that Santorum is “reengineering” his presidential campaign.

“You can’t repeat the same behavior and expect different results,” he says. “We’ve got to do things different. We’ve got to reengineer the campaign. We’ve got to add things, take things out, and make changes. Everyone recognizes that, from the candidate on down.”

Earlier today, Viguerie, along with a group of movement leaders, met with Santorum at an office in northern Virginia. For over an hour, they discussed ways to revive his bid.

“We came up with a number of bold plans,” Viguerie says. “It’s obvious that we need to do things that aren’t minor tweaks. We need to make significant changes to the campaign.”

...Newt says Romney is the apparent nominee, and he wants to work with him in Tampa on a conservative platform.

I missed this. Did Newt say this recently? So do you think Newt is hoping for VP?

Three weeks only here on Free Republic as a FNG, and that's all you can spout (anti-Santorum obsessive rhetoric)?

Now, come on. Tell us who you are REALLY a stalking horse for...in which campaign's basement pressure cooker room are you working and posting? Are you even a conservative? Tell us more about yourself since you are so new here on FR.

Thanks for catching this. I am tired of the tearing down of the non-Romney candidates here and elsewhere. I am a Santorum supporter, but have gone out of my way to avoid baseless accusations and general nasty talk about Gingrich and Paul. I barely even speak my true thoughts about Romney to anyone but my family. When I call Romney a deceitful baby-killer here, that’s me being nice.

Tell him to stop bending over backwards to the labor unions and stop begging the dems to cross over.

Riiiiiight!!!

Because the economy of America was in the toilet during the 1960’s, with the sexual revolution... and in the toilet in the 1920’s, with the speakeasies and the flapper girls.

I could go on, but you get the picture.

” Newt’s greatest problem is that the world had heard of him. His barely positive image doomed him. He needed to do something else to redeem that image before running. He could have easily pulled this off, but he seemed to want to chase the limelight or cash more than redemption. “

The “ barely positive image that doomed him” was crafted with care and cash by your enemies and mine; the Lefty media, the Marxists in power, and the GOP-E who want to stay in power.

The whole $300,000 fine thing was UNNECESSARILY paid by Newt against a sham case full of dozens of false charges which were FAR more quietly dismissed after months and months of quiet delay. Much more quietly dismissed than when brought by Democrats against him.

Bloody Thursday was the icing on the cake to keep Newt from a good showing in Florida where he had led 15 points, and Rick was right there throwing what loose change he had left at the time, from his nowhere campaign, right into the mix with the Romney money.

” He could have easily pulled this off, but he seemed to want to chase the limelight or cash more than redemption. “

Newt has NEVER chased money, or been seen climbing up GOP-E legs like Rick, for favors or for his redemption. Instead, Newt has led a rather modest life with Calista letting his record speak for itself, and dealt with personal redemption where it mattered- in his Church.

He has never been a rich man, but for books he authored with no help from the political heirarchy, and the small think tanks for which he solicited funding. His money has been in those think tanks and in research, thus the couch scene with Nancy.

He has led a decent and quiet life with Calista with no profile whatsoever, except for FOX using him occasionally as the grandfather of master politics in DC.

That Republican voters have swallowed the hate media and the power-clinging GOP commentary whole, who are out against Newt in force, is a stunning commentary on the shallowness and utter ignorance of conservative voters.

Conservatives are divided because they will not stand.

We fail to defend the giant among us and for a song will run to the curb for a prissy standard poodle like Romney, or some cur mutt that barks, like Santorum.

No Sale here. We either do this thing or we cede.

” I’m in until Newt SAYS he’s OUT.” (VinL)

It’s Newt, or Obama. We have to stand, and stand with the man who cares for the country and NOT settle for the shell game and theatrics going on now.

“The social conservatives did not think this through (again) tho, this time, you all gave us a much worse candidate than McCain.”

I find this dissing of social conservatives disturbing. IF they(we) leave the GOP - the GOP folds. Those of you that keep blasting SOCONs are making a serious mistake...you “did not think this through” to quote you.

BTW - This SOCON’s first choice has been Newt (and still is). However, I still like Santorum and don’t appreciate this sour grapes nonsense. I liked Huckabee as well.

Rick Santorum is the LAST person Ron Paul or Newt Gingrich can trust with their delegates.

They both KNOW Rick. They have seen him be the climber he is on numerous occasions. Heck, Newt himself used climbing Rick as a mouth piece errand boy because he could.

Ron, nor Newt, have ever been known to suffer fools gladly and certainly can’t be found having EVER run errands and interference for the GOP-E in order to advance themselves.

“Newt says Romney is the apparent nominee, and he wants to work with him in Tampa on a conservative platform.”

There is a rigid way to come up with the planks in the platform and no candidate has a say in that.

Just as in a state convention, the platform committee is chosen by the chairman, at the state level it’s the state chairman, at the national level it’s the national chairman.

Now, at precinct meetings after voting stops on primary day, people come to their precinct meeting and resolutions for the platform are accepted. The county chairman appoints a platform committee and they go over all resolutions turned it and combine those that are about the same subject. Then, at the county county this committee presents the resolutions for acceptance or change or rejection by the whole body.

After that is done, these resolutions accepted are sent to the state party. Then, the state chairman selects a platform committee who go over all resolutions submitted and they combine them, then these final resoltuions are presented to the entire state convention delegates for approval or change or rejection.

Then, these final resolutions are forwarded to the national chairman and he appoints a platform committee who go over all the submitted resolutions and come up with the final platform. Then, this platform, plank by plank, is presented to the whole national body delegates for approval or rejection.

So, you see, it is the chairman of a county or state or national party to select the members of that committee. It is very difficult for a candidate to impose his/her own resolutions/planks on that committee. Sure, they can request to speak to that final committee, but there is no guarantee anything they say will be considered.

The planks of our party, both state and national, seldom change much. Have you ever read them? Our Texas platform is really long. A chairwoman we had a number of years ago was a smart woman and I liked what she said when she said the platform is too long. She said if we said this, it would cover all the planks - “We believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” I agreed with her - that says it all.

Good morning RitaOK . That was an excellent post and you captured the essence of my position on this entire mess, but I will go a wee bit further.

Personally, I am only a single vote and I am nobody important, however, I have impacted the voting potential of about 20 friends and associates. I am just a country boy and a regular Joe that loves and has served his country.

I am afraid we are going to lose this once great country and our way of life. We will not lose our country because it was taken from us, we will lose it because we gave her away.

I will NOT vote for GOP-e RINO Romney or zealot Saintorum. I have concluded that lacking a miracle, Newt will not likely get the nomination, but he will continue to have my support until he tells me to stand down. Saintorum will not be nominated, that leaves Romney.

I strongly believe that the very second that Romney gets the nomination, Obama wins another 4 years.

When the dust settles, we will not have the country that we want, but we will have the country that we will so richly deserve.

God save the Republic.....

“Conservatives are divided because they will not stand.”

You add to that division when you equate Santorum to Romney. It is not a fair comparison; Not even close. YOU are a glaring example of that division. Oh, I’m first and formost a Newt supporter, but I know Santorum is an “acceptable” alternative. Romney will never be “acceptable”....I equate Romney to Obama.

At this point the ONLY hope there is for a decent GOP candidate is to keep Romney from getting enough votes to win the convention on the first ballot. Then it becomes open and “maybe” a more conservative candidate will emerge. I know it won’t be either Newt or Rick Santorum...but at least it won’t be Romney.

So, even IF you must libel Santorum....realize he is the only real force still standing enough to possibly deny Romney the nomination. The only “hope” that 2012 won’t be a totall write off.

You deserve a standing O! it was always Newt that had to be eliminated by Romney. They knew Santorum would not be as hard to take out.
