HELENA, Mont. Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested again Monday, just days after he posted bail on similar charges that he burglarized a home and stole prescription drugs, authorities said.
Leaf was first arrested on Friday after police found oxycodone pills in his golf bag that an acquaintance later said Leaf stole from his home. Then early Monday, three days after posting a $76,000 bond, he was arrested again, Central Montana Drug Task Force Commander Chris Hickman said.

Schadenfreude is a dish best served warm.
He had it all and his whiny, bratty, self-centered ego threw it all away. For no reason.
Was he wearing a hoodie?...........
WWell, there was one reason. It turned out that he didn’t have any talent.
It sounds as though he needs some quick, serious medical intervention for his opiate addiction to oxycodone etc, which seems to be causing him to commit crimes to feed his habit. Just saying. I don’t know his NFL history at all, but it looks like a recurring problem.
And to think there were those that though that he should have been drafted over Peyton Manning.
Many people get addicted to pain meds while taking them. That could be the case also.
Just a Thug that washed out of the NFL into a life in prison.
Ryan Leaf is the most despised man in the history of San Diego.
I know, S40. I did just that years ago, in a farm-related back injury, and it was tough getting off of them. He’s definitely doing it the wrong way. For what he’s posting as bail, he could *buy* a lot of black-market pain meds, IIRC.
He is no different than the junkie or crackhead on the ghetto corner robbing old ladies for their Social Security check.
When Jim Mora was the coach of the Colts, he interviewed both of them. Each was asked how he would respond if drafted by the Colts. Manning’s response was that he would want a coach, tape and a playbook so that he could start learning the offense. Leaf’s response was that he would go to Vegas with his buddies and to Hawaii with his girlfriend. Telltale responses from both of them.
They oughtta legalize all drugs because that would stop Ryan Leaf from acting like an asshole.
Yeah, he was a top QB bust in the NFL but he surely had enough skills to be a valuable backup and make darn good money while doing it. Do your job, work the system and some team desperate for a QB would have given him a call.
Now he’s just a washed up criminal junkie.
>>Yeah, he was a top QB bust in the NFL but he surely had enough skills to be a valuable backup and make darn good money while doing it. <<
He was probably much better than he was on the field. The team hated him so much that if he was a ‘nam officer they would have shot his sorry butt (a ‘la Animal House’ Doug Neidermeyer).
It was his attitude, not his aptitude.
By the time teams (Cowboys, in particular) were looking to him as a potential backup who could play, he had dislocated his wrist and couldnt get the spiral snap anymore.
I remember when he was at WTAMU, he seemed to really have turned his life around. Admitted his mistakes, even admitted his addictions (I believe it was booze). He was doing well for a while, then got into trouble.
I always thought he got somewhat of a raw deal on that horrible Chargers team. When he yelled at the media guy, that was it. The wagons were circled, and no matter how much of a jerk he was, he would always be portrayed as twice that. I was listening to Sirius NFL, and one of the former GM’s said the worst thing that happened to him was that teams didnt really believe he was as immature as he seamed. Apparently, even as WASU he was that way. The GM’s thought was that if Leaf got to sit for a year behind some journeyman, it could have turned out a lot different.
I think this is a great example that you dont beat addiction, you just try to abstain as long as possible. Even Josh Hamilton has had a few relapses here with the Rangers.
Actually he asked them what they would do with their signing bonus if the Colts drafted them. Leaf said what you wrote but Manning said “earn it.”
