The various turns of the Republican presidential primary have made it clear that there is a division in the GOP unlike anything since 1996. There is, however, no consensus over what defines the sides of this split.
The media....imagines a debate between "Romney" and a multiple-personality "Not Romney." They also characterize the gulf as between a notional Establishment and the base (or Tea Party), or simply between those less or more "conservative." (This last is the position promoted for obvious political reasons by Sen. Rick Santorum and Speaker Newt Gingrich.)
[SNIP: Dissection of political identities, sprinkled with a dose of "life isn't fair," get over it]
...For example, although Gingrich asserts that he has a more moderate stance on illegal immigration than Romney, it was Romney who in fact overperformed among Latino voters in Florida, winning a clear majority. So we have some evidence that Latinos (a crucial swing constituency in the general election) are comfortable with a conservative individualist holding a consistent rule-of-law policy position on illegal entry, but their willingness to support a more identity-oriented politician (even one making efforts to gain their support) is less certain. Governor Romney's overwhelming victory (in excess of 80%) in Puerto Rico, following a statement by Santorum interpreted by Spanish-speakers as a demand that a shift to the English language would be required before statehood, simply strengthens this concern.
More broadly, any member of a group which has not historically been part of the conservative coalition (i.e., ethnic and religious minorities, gays and lesbians, and political independents of various kinds) will naturally be hesitant to support identity conservatives, in part from the aftereffects of past exclusion, but also from residual uncertainty about their current inclusion. In a November election in which every vote counts, these are ones Republicans cannot afford to lose.

"In the United States, however, our parties are coalitions appearing as unitary entities. The party that can field the broadest coalition by attracting more marginal voters to either of its wings will be victorious. A conservative individualist must successfully reach out in a general election to group conservatives as partners, assuring them that the concerns of their groups will be addressed, while at the same time being able to attract moderate and pragmatic voters who do not identify with any group or movement. This would appear to be the Romney strategy (as it was Reagan's), and it is plausible if well-funded and executed."

The Establishment is convinced that the base needs to understand what is at stake and that Mitt has the inside track. And they are on shaky ground and they know it.
What they conveniently left out is ground truth, ie Romney's $20 Million of attack ads in Fla against Gingrich (lie about "Spanish is a gutter language" - Tom Brokaw's :30 lead-in about ethics case - from which Gingrich had been vindicated).
Mitt Romney has not reach out to the base, he has opened fired on them.
Their "evidence" of the political landscape is predicated on a lie (how many times must he be sent to the pit for repairs?). They picked this candidate before the flag dropped (actually Mitt has been doing practice laps - and meeting with owners - since he was elected Gov. of Mass in 2003).
The GOP Elite, under siege by their "own," are calling in their chips and party faithful endorsements to reinforce their position. Their crown prince is a pretender and their reign is under attack by conservatives -- those growing ranks of "identity" conservatives" (the so called "individuals" have grown large enough to become a sizable "group" that has mounted a resistance) who have had a bellyful of the lies.
"The national Hispanic population is soaring while voter registration is declining, experts who study voting trends have found recently. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Current Population Survey, Hispanic voter registration dropped from 11.6 million in 2008 to 10.9 million in 2010. Voter registration typically declines in off-year elections, but a decrease of more than half a million voters is a significant interruption of a long-term trend. Predictions that 2012 could be a political tipping point for the nation's fastest-growing population group have all but faded, even as candidates from both major parties are recognizing the potential significance of the Hispanic vote simply because of its sheer size.
"It's very disturbing," said Antonio Gonzalez, who heads the San Antonio-based William C. Velasquez Institute and the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project. "Frankly, you haven't had a loss of 600,000 voters ever. It's a very bad sign."
Recession to blame?.........
Birth rate declining......
What's the point?........"
Republicans will need to run a campaign that explains. Explanationas opposed to denunciation of others, or celebration of selfhasnt much characterized the campaign of the likely Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, so far. But if Romneyassuming hes the nomineecant lift his general election campaign above the level of the primary contest, hes likely to lose.".............. Forward, March!
I’m 80, I was very active when Reagan ran in Illinois and some of my stuff, print material, promoting conservatisim might be in Thje Reagan Library I was told this by the late John L Waner who was Nixon’s HUD Secretary and my committeeman..BTW George Romney had sent in staffers to help John when John ran for mayor of Chicago when that post was a partisan election.
Pretty good analysis . There is a big push here in Wisconsin to close Romney’s deal which he can’t do himself and for that very reason I hope Santorum takes it. This is one of the pieces I developed as a vol in this campaign. Trouble is todays campaigns they don’t use print that much abymore or even know how to do a “blitz”.
OBMACARE is a 1.76 Trillion $ Hydra
A 9 headed Serpent whose heads must be decapitated all at once with a Firebrand otherwise they grow back and devour everything in sight
by L.J .Keslin / http://www.theusmat.com
While the ex governor of the only state with mandatory state run health insurance (which is in trouble ) was busy buying up state primary elections Of the three GOP candidates remaining opposing him only one man, Sen Rick Santorum, had the courage to take on a what they call a third rail issue...Eugenics...one of the heads on that 9 headed snake called obamacare.. and Santorum had his character asassinated for it... Rick has been pummeled from both sides Called , a women hater ,, a religious nut, and ..a one trick pony. Santorum spends an hour discussing oil and the economy then 10 seconds comenting about pornography but guess what MSM and Santorum detractors will talk about... certainly not ,what’s really in the 1.76 trillion dolllar wonder called Obamacare ,,...!; Population control,.Death panels., Private presidential armys.. and all that goes with it. Including cost, 1.76 trillion and rising ..
To pay off a 16 trillion dollar national debt at $16.00 a second would take 31,668 years*. .. Not including interest. There is no way to “fix” Obamacare..Part of that debt is a 1.7 trillion dollar secret Xmas eve gift that was delivered in March 09 that must be returned by someone determined to do so not just exchanged .I’ts doubtfull the man in the Etch a Sketch suit will do it. Mitt has yet to explain how his “Romneycare “is working”
A trillion seconds of time =31668 years
Two groups late in the last century led in Eugenic development. The Nazis and the Communists. Few know or remember how the Nazis began. First citing “health risk” “nicht rauchen” baning cigarette smoking, Then terminating Down Syndrome children, and then on to mentally defective children and adults,. then on to besides murdering opponents, races. All done to make the German Reich healthy and last a thousand years.
So you go to the MSM (Main Stream Media) the so called “gate keepers” for information about these things and you find closed gates .. The sorcerers in the media magically reduce a 2000 page Hydra , a Greek legendary nine headed venomous serpent that must be slain by a firebrand ,and morph it into the mourning after pill and a “womans health care issue.”
The “gatekeepers” never tell you that Obamacare bill creators and the Amish are exempt from being in Obamacare. The drafters are on record actually calling it population control and demanding Catholic bishops support it.* Their statements are out there .But not mentioned by the so called gate-keepers but by the AM the alternate media, meaning radio talk shows like Limbaugh’s and websites like Britebart’s Government . Places Obama wants to shut down and will once re-elected *Joel Pollak Britebart Government .
When Santorum talks about freedom he warns women surrender their rights when they buy into this monstrosity . That is what’s in Obamacare which is deceptively titled “The Affordable Health Care Act” .Yet Obamacom tzars who hail from that foreign land, the deep swamp of Acadamica are all preaching the utopian wonders of Eugenics. Why it’s the final solution (remember him ?) population control. Which is part of the Obamacare package.
Fortunately Santorum has not shyed away from this issue miss characterized as only a social issued. It is both a social and financial issue $ 1.75 trillion is in no way a minor expenditure. One of this hydra heads Population control affects US from the cradle to the grave. .but Santorum can not speakout and act against this despicable movement ? Particularly when that is being shoved on religious groups by the Demo-Coms . Especially when they are ignoring constitutional rights...
Recently private job creation projects rejection by the socialists controlling new demo-com party should send a signal to the Republican bleeding heart establishment . “Bi-partisanship” doesn’t exist with the socialists who have taken over the democrat party and to the GOP leading presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Mr Romney should start realizing Obama is a “socialist”..
Everyone including the monthly liberal magazine Newsweek knows he is but Mr Romney just can’t seem to get around to saying it . Preventing an iron mine in Wisconsin for a desperate area in need of jobs or preventing the Keystone pipeline transfering oil from Canada to American refineries decisions which would have provided employment to thousands and reduced gas prices. was not on the new demo-com agenda.which has taken over. Common good is not their concern but their welfare is.. not ours .
One thing I’ve never seen before in all my years of activity is that my Catholic church (of which I belong to) passed out a flyer about the churches position on Eugenics at the Palm Sunday mass . This has gone unreported and ignorged what effect it will have on the Wisconsin election remains to be seen.
The reason, of course, is that Willard will either lose to Obama or ape his socialist policies if he wins so we will still need a conservative in the White House in order to save America-—the soonest being 2017 so best to get started now to make it happen.
The Newt and Rick 2016 campaigns may force Mitt to at least “act” conservative during his first term-hoping to be reelected-and since we all know that if Romney is reelected he will be free to act according to his true nature and cut loose Leftist so at least we will have two hardened conservatives well positioned to challenge him in the primaries. (won't happen I know, but a Mitt win will make desperate times even more desperate and desperate measures more necessary-whatever they are)
Successful integration of a hard working people who embrace American culture?
Maybe a whole lot of people decided they'd rather be Americans than a minority.
In 1968 it was widely acknowledged that any citizen had standing to demand proof of eligibility of a presidential candidate.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
“If, Gawd forbid, Mendacious Mitt manages to buy the 1144 or through the back room skulduggery of his fellow RINO buddies in the GOP establishment steals the nomination in Tampa.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Then Newt Gingrich should demand proof from Romney that he qualifies for the office.
Thank you for your post.

Environmenalism-Population Control-Eugenic: John P. Holdren (Obama Science and Technology Czar) co-author with Anne and Paul Ehrlich - “Population Bomb”
John P. Holdren was Mitt Romneys environmental adviser before he was 0bamas science czar.
John Tanton, Anne and Paul Ehrlich and John P. Holdren — (Obama’s long standing Science and Technology adviser) - their march (starting back in the late sixties for population control — now an ecological-population argument — has been a long journey together and friends along the way that were and still are helpful).

Dr. Tanton founded local chapters of Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club and became the national president of Zero Population Growth. Unable to interest colleagues in fighting immigration, he formed FAIR in 1979, pledging in his proposal to make it centrist/liberal in political orientation. The first director, Roger Conner, had made his mark as a liberal environmental advocate. . . .

Garrett and Jane Hardin: A Personal Recollection (Hemlock Society adviser to Hardin on FAIR — who with his wife committed suicide)
Tribute to Garrett Hardin - by John H. Tanton, M.D.
My interest in population developed in the late 1950s as I was finishing medical school. By 1975 I had been elected national president of Zero Population Growth, an organization inspired by Paul Ehrlich’s book “The Population Bomb.” Then in the late 1970s the US fertility rate fell to below replacement, and immigration emerged as the main source of domestic population growth. To Garrett’s dismay, ZPG declined to address these new circumstances.
When in 1979 I helped set up the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) to tackle the immigration question, Garrett served from the beginning as an advisor. Later he consented to set aside his aversion to board meetings by joining the FAIR Board. Much of his later writing was on the demographic aspects of immigration and can be found by searching under his name in the archives of a quarterly journal of the immigration reform movement, TheSocialContract.com. The bookstore at this site offers for sale three of Dr. Hardin’s books that the Social Contract Press reprinted: Stalking the Wild Taboo; Mandatory Motherhood: The True Meaning of the Right to Life; and Creative Altruism: Source and Survival. Also available is his The Immigration Dilemma: Avoiding the Tragedy of the Commons, published by FAIR.
It is hard to see one’s friends and people we admire decline physically to the point where they decide to exit this vale of tears felo de se. Garrett’s post polio syndrome had reduced him to using a wheel chair; he could no longer swim well. Macular degeneration cost him the reading vision in his right eye. Life in a nursing home was not an option for this man of letters. Jane had been diagnosed with ALS - amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease, one of the least desirable ways to leave this planet. It worsened. Both were long time members of the Hemlock Society, and decided to take matters into their own hands. This can give us a lot to think about, especially as our own infirmities come to the fore - and since my wife and I live in a state that counts Dr. Jack Kievorkian among its citizens.

It's the divide between individualists and statists. Those that believe that the individual is superior to the state versus those that believe that the state should have supreme control over the individual.
You see it with Romney and Santorum, who both preach the gospel of the the glorious state. Romney - with his belief that government and business should be bedmates... and Santorum, who would use the strong arm of the government to force proper behavior out of the individual.
And you see it in Reagan and other supporters of states rights, who believe that the government is a necessary evil, one that should be as small as possible... and should never run roughshod over the individual.
As someone once said, “I want to make the (federal) government as small and inconsequential as possible”.
-
That view is diametrically opposite that of a statist. For if the state is weak, how can it reward/punish people for not complying with it's diktats?
BUMP!
