Fred Skinner, 76, of Victory, was caught off-guard on Tuesday when police officers broke through his front door during a drug raid, only to find out they had the wrong house
Skinner said at least six police officers broke into his house, smashed through his porch door, and then his front door. The house at on McNeely Road was raided for drugs for over five minutes before police realized they had the wrong house by looking through his mail. After the police realized it was the wrong house, they took the handcuffs off him and left.
Auburn police officers were involved in the raid conducted by the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force. Auburn Police Chief Gary Giannotta admitted the mistake and told WSYR that he only remembers police raiding a wrong house four times in the last 16 years.
After the press picked up the story the cops did end up paying $1200 to fix the door. Of course, if any civilian did this it would be felony criminal mischief.
After Obamacare's full implementation, this might work: "You can't hold me responsible! I work for the government!"
No. He can consider himself lucky that they did not shoot him.
Boot licker ping
“only four times in sixteen years”
So that is something to bragg about...a serial killer can bragg about only killing four people in sixteen years, he can claim he is not as bad as some other serial killers.
What if the old man would have had a heart attack or heaven forbid was so confused he failed to follow their orders and got himself shot? Would the cops just express how sorry they are?
This should never happen....ever.

And next year he will remember only two times.
Can’t be a professional cop these days without raiding a wrong house or two.

Good point. And can you imagine going into surgery and the surgeon says: "Relax. I only remember performing the wrong operation on somebody four times in the last 16 years. So just stay calm. I'll probably get it right."
The real crime is half of society declaring the other illegal.
(BANG! BANG! BANG!) Ex-police, FREEZE!
The 4 times in 16 years doesn’t sound too bad, unless I’m one of those 4. I’d like to know how many raids they’ve done over those 16 years.
I can’t imagine Syracuse has too many of em. If they do one a month then they have an error rate of 2%. Pretty high when lives are at stake. Of course they might do more than that, or less.
You are exactly correct!!! Here's a case of this: Is it a problem if a cop is TOO smart?
Wrong donut shops.
Unless it is considered racially discriminatory, I would suggest “reading and writing” tests for at least the 5th grade level for all police officers in NY.
Who pays for his front door?
