GREEN BAY, Wis. Just a few days out from the Wisconsin primary, Newt Gingrich and his wife, Callista, officially opened their state headquarters in Green Bay, a hotbed of Republican voters in the state.
But for cynics who think the grand opening is just a shell game of keeping up appearances (recent polls show Gingrich running fourth behind Ron Paul in the state), the campaign would say theyre severely misguided: this office will be open through November, and its part of a grand strategy of securing the nomination in Tampa.
While Wisconsin will award delegates mostly in a winner-take-all fashion, theres opportunity for a non-winner to take delegates if they win a congressional district, and the campaign is hoping to do well in the 3rd Congressional District, which encompasses Callistas hometown of Whitehall and whose former representative, Steve Gunderson, was her boss when she worked as a staffer on the Hill.
But whatever happens in Tuesdays primary, state campaign director Robert Lorge says his mission post-primary will be to help Gingrich persuade what he calls soft delegates here in the state to support him: 3 RNC delegates, plus the 3 delegates from each of the eight congressional districts who could become unbound at the convention.

Until Mitt Romney secures 1,144 delegates, Gingrich has been clear he will stay in the race. Lorge is of the school of thought that Romney wont make the cut, and moving forward, there will be a highly contested battle for delegates.
Newts the only candidate that realizes this battlefield is almost done, but the coming battlefield is the convention, Lorge said. Like all true leaders, hes the first one on to that battlefield. Hes going to be focusing on contacting those delegates, particularly the soft delegates, but all the delegates even the alternates.
Lorge said that in conference calls with the national team there has been discussion about the possibility of consolidating Santorum and Gingrich delegates at the Republican National Convention in order to overcome Romneys delegate math.
I imagine theres going to be a lot of negotiation and compromising between the pro-Newt Gingrich and the pro-Rick Santorum delegates, he said. You may have a Newt Gingrich-Rick Santorum ticket. You may have a Rick Santorum-Newt Gingrich ticket. Nobody knows how that tickets going to work out. But I imagine itll end up being something like that.
I think whomever the GOP nominee is will likely pick Rubio to be their VP in an attempt to secure Florida.
If the GOP cannot carry Florida, it cannot defeat Obama.
I really don’t think that there is much danger of Georgia going blue this election cycle.
They better hurry up with it.
I'm sure the Martin/Zimmerman situation plays no roll in the DNC strategy. /s
Excellent point.
Although I have to wonder how many more person of hispanic descent are here versus Obama’s mobs.
I really hate how this election in particular is boiling down to pitting one group of people against another via hatred, and I think it’s going to get much, much worse before November.
Ping!
I guess I should have used the past tense, played. The location and “victim” couldn’t have been better for them. Had they vetted the case better, it might have actually given them FL. But typical Obama, they did a half-assed job.
I do believe and hope that this particular scenario is going to backfire on them if it has not already.
But this is not going to stop. These are very dangerous people playing very dangerous games, and they will stop at nothing to achieve total victory, meanwhile our side has not even a clue what’s going on. Either that or they are complicit and they do not want us to know.
Is Gingrich proposing that they split that $640 million lottery jackpot or something?
This is what the Romney Party is trying to avoid, but it can give the base the megaphone we need.
I hope Rick or Newt wouldn't - Rubio has been showing cracks in that "ultra-conservative" veneer over the last few months and still has not been vetted beyond the initial "wow a Hispanic ultra conservative" fiesta.
Remember the scumbag media when they found that zimmerman was NOT A WHITE GUY he was hispanic he went from a white guy to a WHITE HISPANIC. They are our enemy as well. much like the nazis they are working with the criminals in charge to secure another 4 years and the final destruction of America
..about six weeks too late. sigh.
Yes, Mitt Romney will select Marco Rubio as his VP. Anyone who thinks that it will be someone else selecting Rubio at this point in the campaign is in denial.
Rubio is a little degenerate busybody lawyer spineless prick lawyer who endorsed the Bishop from Planet Kolob
Hes dead as far as getting a shot at the White House
The Mormon isn’t going anywhere either
I am listening to Ann Coulter on Fox right now. “Newt Gingrich should never even have run for president...” Anyone who took money from Fanny/Freddie” (acting like he lobbied for them when he was a consultant...blah blah blah. Didn’t Romney have stock in Fannie/Freddie? She called him crazy on Redeye. “Three cheers for Romneycare” Ann has chosen the Rhino.
I definitely do not think Rubio is a conservative. I think he is more of a GOP water carrier. I still think he will be the VP pick though, Florida is a must win.
Yes, but they are the face of the GOP in 2012.
It’s either them ir a communist country.
Take your pick.
For this sabotage; it would be worth it; to seek some retributive Justice against what now seems; only 'their' Party.
Alas; 'right now' we do not have that luxury. Believe unequivocally; that Repubs - no matter how Conservatively tepid - are nonetheless, 'Patriots' and so remain, our only chance of saving America, so that we survive to vote again. (For those candidates; we 'raise up'/support to seek and win Elections.)
