Conflicting Stories by Martin Family About Trayvon's Last Night?
Friday, March 30, 2012 | Kristinn

I don't know what it means, but this strikes me as odd. From an interview with the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin by the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA):

Martin, Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton; Benjamin Crump, the family lawyer; Al Sharpton and former New York Gov. David Patterson participated in an exclusive 1-hour telephone conference call last Thursday with more than three dozen publishers from the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).

Martin told publishers how he learned that his son had been killed.

“I had been out to dinner. When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasn’t at home. The night before, he had been to the movies with my nephew, who had recently moved up to the Orlando area from Miami. Every time Trayvon would come up here, they would find something to do, usually they would go to dinner. My nephew is 20 years old, a very responsible young man. So there was not panic at that moment that he was not home. I made several attempts to call his cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. I called my nephew’s cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. So at that point, I figured they had been in the movies because they would always go to the movies.”

Tracy Martin and his girlfriend went to bed. But the next morning, the day Martin and his son had planned to return to Miami, he learned that Trayvon still wasn’t back in the house. Tracy called his nephew again, this time reaching him and learning that Trayvon wasn’t with him.

Today, CNN published comments from a Martin family attorney that seems to conflict with the account proffered by Tracy Martin:

During the 10-day suspension, Tracy Martin took his son with him to Sanford, about four hours away from Miami, while he visited his fiancée because neither he nor Fulton wanted their son to stay in his hometown where he could enjoy his friends, said Horton, who has been in close contact with Martin's father.

"He wasn't just suspended from school and up at Sanford kicking it and having a good time," said Horton. Martin had only been to Sanford a handful of times.

His fateful walk to the convenience store for a bag of Skittles and an iced tea on the evening of February 26 happened only because the teenager pleaded to leave the apartment, said Horton.

"The only reason he got a chance to go to the store is because he begged his dad to go," he said. At the time, his father and his fiancée had gone out to dinner and to watch a basketball game, leaving Martin at the townhouse, according to Martin family spokesman Ryan Julison.

While walking to the store, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend, whom he had been talking to for over 6½ hours throughout the day, the family's attorney said, citing phone records. The girl, who did not want to be identified, said she told Martin to run, but he refused, the family attorney said.

What strikes me is the father made no mention of his son begging him to be allowed to go to the store in his interview with the NPAA. That would be crushing to a parent, if true. They would be guilt-ridden, thinking if only they had said no, he wouldn't have been out.

Instead, Tracy Martin says he was not very concerned about the whereabouts of his son until the next morning.

It strikes me as odd.

Yes i would and I have been in a similar but non-fatal occurrence. Notification would be given to family when a true identity was determined.
But what if: Father spent night elsewhere? What if Father was too drunk or stoned?
I saw a detective on a show last night hand Ed Shultz his hat when ED was trying to pin the cop down. The Cop was not from Sanford or Seminole County as far ass I know.
One note ,there were many.
Ed asked why didn’t the cops go through the kid’s phone list and contact those parties. The Det. said because there are privacy rules and a warrant is needed
and that could take a day. Then records by Phone companies sometimes takes days. ‘If you don’t abide to the rules it can taint the case.” is what the Det. said.
I do not mean any of the above to be argumentive
Stay safe and have a great day!

Have no idea how to verify something like that.

That's where the Urban Dictionary comes in. Skittles is easy: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=skittles

Can't find anything much for AZ Iced Tea, however. Tea is marijuana, duh, but iced tea, Arizona brand??

SImilar thoughts, except my opinion is that parents were in denial about the child’s darker side. A person using can become very manipulative, particularly if they are playing one parent against the other.

Tray knew how to play the game, he was a decent student and was involved in community activities as a youth. He had promise. Drug use can ruin all that promise very fast.... in just months, weeks and it only takes one person’s influence to start the ball rolling.

All the rationale of his behavior, blaming others etc are pretty typical in disfunctional/substance abuse families.

I also question the parents role. Were they using Tray as a pawn. He shows all of the signs.

Found it yesterday. Lace in PCP or having liquid PCP dripped on the marijuana cigarette.

I feel that this is because Trayvon was not supposed to leave the house. He was grounded because he was suspended. But he waited until he father left, and skipped out himself. And his father would be furious. Trayvon Martin, because of his suspensions, was a powderkeg waiting to blow. The stress on him and the rest of the family had to have been enormous.

Who said Trayvon was "grounded"? If he was, his father's lack of immediate concern and the length of time it took him to discover his son's fate don't make sense.

Also, Trayvon would have known his father and his father's girlfriend were going out to dinner and would be out of the picture for a few hours, so no need to worry about being spotted out walking. Maybe it was just shorter to walk between the townhouses? Or maybe he only did that after noticing he was being watched.

The other odd thing, of course, is that the fight took place only 60 or 70 feet from the father's townhouse. The police report said they didn't wind up the investigation until 3:07 am. So, what would have been going at 10:30 pm? Cop cars all over? Yellow tape and criminalists on their hands and knees under floodlights? Or just a few detectives quietly interviewing witnesses? Or does the 3am refer to when they finished interrogating Zimmerman downtown, the on-site investigation having ended much earlier?

Bad guys avoid police

P_______________________________Smart teenagers avoid strange men following them in cars and then on foot.

Martin did exactly what any smart parent would teach his kids to do...he ran away from the stranger who got out of his car to follow him.

Brown Deer posted photos of Martin and his father and some gangsta rap “friends” on another thread, from FB. BD - would you mind posting them on this thread?

I have a question - from what I’ve read, Travyon Martin’s father was visiting his gf/fiancee. So he did not, apparently, live in this neighborhood. If that is the case, why was Trayvon staying there for his 10 day suspension.

There are many questions.

Cops initially arrived on the scene about 7:15pm. They called in the Major Crimes Unit to investigate. I doubt they finished at the scene before 11

That's certainly true, and may be responsible for what to others looks like a cover up on their side. The photos are a perfect example. Even in the father's first statement, he gave the police a picture two weeks old, yet gave the press a picture two years old. Was it deceitful, or just delusional?

Interesting. That says the fight happened more like 400 feet from where he was staying, not the 60 or 70 feet that has been reported. It also gives a better idea how Tracy Martin and Brandy Green managed to get home at 2230 without spotting an alarming police presence.

Did you see Brown Deer’s photos of Martin’s father with the gangsta rap gents? It’s on some thread or other...if you search Brown Deer’s name for posts you’ll easily find it. (No courtesy ping because I pinged him back up the thread).

Interesting theory. It seems consistent, too. Trayvon Martin didn’t get this out of control overnight. He became out of control due to lack of strong parenting, or rather lazy parenting.

If your theory is true, note that Trayvon’s father goes out with his girlfriend, leaving Trayvon at home alone. Trayvon’s gotten into some serious trouble recently, but still his father trusts him to abide by the rules. The last thing Trayvon was was trustworthy. But for the father to treat his son with the lack of trust Trayvon has earned, it means that his date with his girlfriend is off. Dad doesn’t like that option, so instead of manning-up to his parenting responsibilities, he does what’s fun rather than what’s prudent. And, now he has a dead son.

I’d say your theory is frightfully possible.

That’s the way I see it. I’m loathe to understand how this father would not be home with this kid after being suspended from school for 10 days and has a history of trouble at school. The family is dysfunctional and makes me suspect the dad is into drugs, too.
