The rest of the country may be waiting for the U.S. Supreme Court to decide the fate of President Barack Obamas health-care law, but the Internal Revenue Service is wasting no time.
It wants to add new agents to hunt down tax cheats and still plans to spend $303.5 million building a system to oversee the effects of the health law even though its future is unclear.
As for the new IRS workers, the Government Accountability Office said the total will be about 4,500, with nearly 4,000 (3,997) slated for enforcement.
On the $303.5 million for health care, the GAO said the IRS will continue the development of new systems and modifications of existing systems required to support new tax credits, as well as other IRS enforcement systems for health reform.
And thats where the health reform law gets really tricky for taxpayers.
Nina E. Olson, who runs the Taxpayer Advocate Office {TAO}, a federal IRS overseer, has warned the new health law may require more IRS intrusions on taxpayer privacy, to determine whether individuals got appropriate health coverage, and whether small businesses provide affordable coverage, all of which is defined by the government.
Thats because the health-reform laws individual mandate requires almost all legal residents of the United States to have adequate health-care coverage, as determined by the federal government. And it requires businesses of all sizes to provide affordable coverage as defined by the federal government.
Health reforms insurance mandate says if you do not have adequate insurance, youll have to pay a fine as part of your tax return. If your business doesnt provide affordable coverage, youll have to pay a fine to the IRS, too, as part of your tax return filing.

FairTax!
Replace the income tax with the FairTax and abolish the IRS!
Isn't that statement redundant?
"Canadian Bacon" is a Michael Moore movie. I found it very funny.

Easier said than done. The fact is people LOVE the deductions and other loopholes they can exploit in our tax code. Heck, Herman Caine couldn’t even convince many FReepers to go with his 9-9-9 plan to slowly move towards a fair tax.
Homegrown terrorists.
Does your presidential candidate support the FairTax?
And remember in the health care bill it says IRS determines what a reasonable business expense is, not legislation, not tax court. We are screwed.
What happens if Obama just ignores the SCOTUS?
The fine is pretty lame but if you already are insured AND they charge you the fine by accident it would add insult to injury,
The IRS already owned us before this so this doesnt shock me.
From your keyboard to GOD's ears. This has got to be the line in the sand, the last straw, or whatever you want to call it.
A Russian transplant in L.A. told me
” IRS vorse than KGB!!
Rush is talking about this now.
” Meanwhile, they can do some reorganization in the IRS, and put several thousand agents to use investigating Republican office holders/candidates and conservative media/organizations.”
Already being done....
IRS = Homegrown terrorists.
Ded-gummit, why didn’t I think of that. Good one!
“abolish the IRS!”
Of course, we need more CONSERVATIVES elected, in order to do that, so let’s work hard on getting as many CONSERVATIVES elected, as possible, in 2012.
I seem to remember that the GOP has control of the appropriations via the House. I bet our GOP stripped out funds for all those IRS agents. (sarc on)
The Progressive desire for a European economy demands a tax enforcement regime also like Europes.
We must all be “All in!” in 2012.
Whatever it takes to elect conservatives, we must do!
Ever end up with a 'lemon'? At some point you quit spending money on the darned thing and go get a reliable car.
Pouring money down a gopher hole isn't likely to imporve the result--better to cut our losses and ditch that mess.
The entire DC establishment has spent 30 years salivating in anticipation of this bill. They aren’t about to let 9 individuals muck it all up for them.
The IRS will not begin collecting penalties until spring of 2015 when tax filing for the 2014 tax year, since the mandate doesn’t take effect until the 2014 tax year.
So these extra agents and systems will never exist if the entire law is squashed this June.
