The standard packet modem ran at 1200 baud with a 170 Hz shift. A big improvement over 45.45 baud on the old Model 15. I hand build the loop supplies, demodulator (with 88 mH toroids) and modulator with an Exar chip.
Inside my office, I ran 9600 bps serial between my computers until I could lay my hands on ARCnet boards. I had to port the damn driver for those. Eventually, the Ethernet boards got cheap enough to put some coax connected boards in all the house computers. Messy but fast. The house is all 1 GB Ethernet today. 802.11bgn for the wireless devices.

Thanks. I'm a big fan of DSP and software defined radio. That hookup has possibilities for a lot more.

A recent threat, purportedly from the hacker group Anonymous, stated boldly that its members would stop the internet on 31 March ... Well, if the attempt was made, it doesn't seem to have to come to much.
As far as I’m concerned, a Marxist govt would welcome this to facilitate the “justification” of Internet control.
