'They Treated Us Inhumanely': Gay Man Thrown Off Caribbean Cruise For 'Having Sex On Deck In Port' Tells of 'Humiliating' Arrest
Men were spotted having sex on Celebrity Summit from dock in Dominica, where sex between two men is illegal. Claimed the Dominican police taunted and humiliated them, to the point they were frightened for their safety. Ordered to pay $900 fine after pleading guilty to indecent exposure. Said they will never go back to Dominica and that they should have done more research before going
By JILL REILLY and LAURA COX 24 March 2012 A Southern Californian man thrown off a Caribbean gay cruise earlier this week has said that that he and his partner were taunted, humiliated and subjected to inhumane treatment when they were arrested for indecent exposure.
Dennis Jay Mayer, 53, of Palm Springs said he has no doubt they were arrested in Dominica because they were gay. Police said it was because they were seen having sex in public on the balcony of their ship cabin. Mayer said they were not having sex, but were partially clothed.
Gay cruise: John Hart, 41, left, and Dennis Jay Mayer, 43, both of Palm Springs, California, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure after they were caught having sex The total experience was horrendous, he said. They told us that they did not like us, that they did not like gay people.
Mayer, a retired deputy sheriff, told how he and his partner of 17 years, John Robert Hart, 41, were summoned to speak to the captain wished to speak to us. We were caught off guard, he added. Three cruise ship officials and six Dominica police officers were waiting for them. After police interviewed both men separately, the assistant captain spoke, Mayer said.

The only problem here is that the gay cruise was captained and crewed by heterosexual men and women. Next time get a gay crew and let the fun begin. Joking here!!! Just don’t sail to the Caymen’s.
I immediately went to the comments section but had to laugh that they closed it down. Your joke is VERY funny.
....................I also hope they will have learned not to go to other countries and try to shove it down their throats...................
That’s an interesting choice of words for these fudge packers!!!
Obviously they were having sex in plain sight visible to people on the dock. Isn't that a bit stupid regardless of whether the sex was heterosexual or homosexual? I am certain if it was a male/female couple doing this they too would have been charged with public indecency. If these two idiots want to be attention whores, then they deserve what they get.
People have been beaten down for so long they are now willing to accept almost anything. Giving condoms to 11 year olds? How long ago would that have caused a national outcry? Now, its nothing.
Good point. A male/female couple doing such things would have been charged as well.
They seem to take the liberal view that, as part of an officially aggrieved group in the US (gay), that this gives them some special status no matter where they are in the world. They feel the right to do whatever they want, wherever they want, and nobody is allowed to say anything, lest they be called bigots.
Dominica is a long way from The Castro.
Totally misleading headline- They weren’t “thrown off”, they were just arrested. Should have really been thrown overboard.
A few years ago, Rosie O’Donnell filled a cruise ship with gay families, and sailed to the Caribbean. She said that they were denied docking somewhere there.
As much as some gay activists bitch about how bad their lives are, mainly because they can’t get legally married, and because society is so homophobic, they have it pretty darn good in America, compared to some places in the world.
Would that be on the poop deck of the S.S. Tainted Pork?
Whoa! Haven’t seen Captain P*** Gums in many a year!
Who knows, we may need political asylum there soon.
I think the first time I heard about the Caymen thing was the late 90’s. They have been pretty consistent and anybody who has been to the Caribbean Islands would know the locals don’t play that game.
I tried a search for the article because the president or Prime Minister or whatever of the Caymen Island was very forth coming in his statements.
It was something along these lines. If they (gay boat) thinks that we have issues with their lifestyles then they would be correct in their thinking. It was a brilliant statement and I wish I had the direct quote.
“I didn’t realise the Saudis would get so uptight over a few Christmas decorations!”
Their support for collectivist politics that universally, absolutely, and reliably has gays slaughtered in every conceivable way all over the world leaves me dumbfounded. They're like an American "Jews for Nazism" group during WWII - utterly insane.
I'm sure the Dominicans would rather they don't return too.
And I hope they don't bother returning to the USA.
(Just both of them jump overboard and spare the nation of their filthy, unnatural and immoral behavior.)
we see it everywhere now and your asinine statement concerning Romney is totally out of line
