NBC: Santorum Wins La. Primary By Significant Margin
Sean Gardner / REUTERS Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum signs placards as he greets supporters at a Get Out The Vote rally in Mandeville, Louisiana March 21, 2012.
By Michael O'Brien Rick Santorums campaign netted a victory Saturday night in Louisiana, where NBC News projected hed won that states GOP primary by a significant margin. The win sparks hope of a campaign rebound, following Santorums lopsided losses to Mitt Romney in the Illinois and Puerto Rico primaries.
The former Massachusetts governor finished second and Newt Gingrich third in Tuesdays contest, per NBC.
The political terrain in Louisiana was favorable to the former Pennsylvania senator. Saturdays vote was limited to Republicans only, making the electorate more conservative. And Santorum has a record of performing well with that demographic, particularly among born-again and evangelical Christians -- his wins Alabama and Missippi included.
Of the GOP pack, Santorum had campaigned most aggressively in Louisiana. Twenty of the states 46 delegates are stake, with NBC assigning 7 to Santorum as of 9 p.m. ET.
Any netted delegates by Santorum might assist in eroding Romneys advantage in the delegate count. But more importantly, a Santorum win would hit pause on the former Massachusetts governor's ability to grab a stranglehold on the race to the nomination.

Romney is severely disappointed.
it’s time for obamney to get out.
DC (19 delegates), Maryland (37 delegates) and Wisconsin (42 delegates) up next on April 3.
Had Santorum gotten 50%, I think he’d have gotten all the delegates.
Perfect.
Percentage wise Newt keeps moving in the right direction. Go Newt!
Great!
...Santorum will walk away with eight of the 20 delegates up for grabs, while Romney will come in second and take some delegates as well, according to CNN. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul will both end up with no delegates.
...
You mean “right direction” just like in La where he got zero delegates, split the anti-Romney vote, and enabled Romney to add a few more delegates to his tally.
Ron Paul’s gay San Francisco billionaire sugar daddy won’t be happy.
Awesome, hope Santorum wins by more than 15!
Romney is going to have to start a reintroduction tour soon.
Gore had about 4 reintroductions and Kerry had several.
Whenever a candidate sees themselves falling, they try that tactic.

Even worse was a comment by McCain per a Friday morning FR thread that Romney is damaged goods. That is an ‘ouch’ commentary.
Wow, Newts really racking up those wins in his southern strategy. Pure genius. LOL /sarc
If you have something against Gingrich, spit it out.
Not much. BUT, delegates to the convention come with their own personal preferences, and IF they become 'unbound' they will vote their own consciences. All bets are off on how it might go.
I ran out of spit.
