Sandusky labeled 'likely pedophile' in 1998 report

More than a decade before former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with more than 50 counts of child sex abuse, a psychologist warned university police that his actions fit that of a “likely pedophile’s pattern.”

The finding by State College, Pa., psychologist Dr. Alycia A. Chambers, the therapist for one of Sandusky’s alleged victims, was contained in the internal Penn State files of a 1998 police investigation of the former coach for showering and bear hugging her client and another young boy in the school’s athletic locker room.

Virginia interviewed Sandusky for the HC job in 2000, but they gave Al Groh the job instead.

Also I think Maryland was looking at him, too, but I don’t think he got as far there.

Virginia interviewed Sandusky for the HC job in 2000, but they gave Al Groh the job instead.

Thank you. I think you may be the person who reminded us of that on an earlier post.

Some brief research suggests that: (a) Sandusky interviewed twice with UVA in Charlottesville; and (b) a group from UVA flew to Pennsylvania to meet with Sandusky once. Virginia eventually passed on Sandusky, questioning his commitment to being a head coach because he was spending too much time devoted to The Second Mile, which is the explanation given by Joe Paterno/Penn State for Paterno telling Sandusky he would not succeed Paterno as head coach at Penn State.

Sandusky didn't appear to be too disappointed to stay away from football and at The Second Mile. When the Cavaliers hired Al Groh instead, Sandusky was quoted in The Richmond Daily Press as saying:

"I'm a very complex person. I couldn't deny the importance of Second Mile in my life. I could have played a game and said I was something different than I am, but that's not me.”

Then, in 1991, Sandusky interviewed at Maryland and reportedly turned down an offer. Maryland then hired Mark Duffner from Holy Cross.

Those are two Division I schools with major programs - by which I mean major money, major facilities, committed boosters and administration.

On the other hand . . . where are the schools looking for a defensive coordinator?

It's difficult to believe that all the schools were scared off by a "he's paying too much attention to The Second Mile to be a coach," when he was the NCAA Assistant Coach of the Year, and coached over Penn State's first bowl game shutout, his final season.

I'm not sure if I'm the one who reminded you earlier, but I did remember reading about UVA somewhere around here.

It's difficult to believe that all the schools were scared off by a "he's paying too much attention to The Second Mile to be a coach," when he was the NCAA Assistant Coach of the Year, and coached over Penn State's first bowl game shutout, his final season.

If you are suggesting that there were rumors in the coaching circles, I think you're right. Sandusky's quote in the Daily Press is really creepy when you look back on it. He's been playing a different game with everyone for a long time. I've heard it called by the term "cognitive dissonance". Sandusky has fooled too many people for too long. I hope that the jig is up this time. I'm tired of the lip service that kids get from real abusers. So many people dropped the ball when it came to protecting the kids. It's time to understand who most of the real pedophiles are...very successful people who use their success as a mask for the criminal inside.

Sandusky, the hidden icon of homos everywhere. Why have we heard no further stories about the young boys that were pimped out to other homos in the same boys organization?

You think that quote was creepy? After telling that to The Daily Press, Sandusky said:

"[Coaching the Cavaliers] would have been neat in a lot of ways, but I've got a lot going on here, and I'll be OK.”

Well, yeah. I guess he did have a lot going on there in Happy Valley. Whether he's going to be OK . . . I don't know about that.

He gives one creepy comment, gaze, or chuckle after another, doesn’t he!

I hope that he is convicted, but I have serious doubts about that happening. Our court system will insure that certain things he’s done or said will not be allowed to be seen by the jury. Evidence will be suppressed. If the young men have the courage to go through with being on the stand, he may be convicted on some things, but I really have my doubts about whether he will receive any jail time at all.

I also think the safest place for him will be in prison. In prison, he will not be put into the general population. He will be protected there. If he is acquitted, I think he will be in jeopardy everywhere he goes.

I wonder about that, too. Is it because these men are so very powerful in their communities?

I’m hoping that the current grand jury is investigating that, but who knows. Someone needs to look at Jack Raykovitz for starters, and go on from there.
