I’ll Take Him

March 24, 2012

Years ago, when I was a student at the University of California at Berkeley, I developed a friendship with a fellow student who had suffered a terrible loss. His child had died and his wife had left him because she couldn’t deal with the pain.

One day, as my friend and I were walking down the street, we found ourselves behind a disheveled mother with a grubby little boy in hand. She was angry at the child and was walking much too fast, towing him at a pace his little legs couldn’t maintain.

We reached a busy intersection where the child abruptly stopped and his hand slipped out of his mother’s grasp. She turned around, spat out a curse, and trudged on. The little boy sat down on the curb and burst into tears. Without a moment’s hesitation, my friend sat down next to him and gathered the little guy in his arms.

The woman turned and, looking at the child, began to curse again. My friend sighed and looked up. “Lady,” he said softly, “If you don’t want him, I’ll take him.”

So it is with our Father in heaven. He too has known great loss and loves us just as tenderly. Even if our friends and family forsake us, our God never will (Ps. 27:10). We are ever in His care.

I love to dwell upon the thought
That Jesus cares for me,
It matters not what life may bring—
He loves me tenderly. —Adams
If God cares for sparrows, He surely cares for us.

Read: Psalm 27:1-10

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me. —Psalm 27:10
Bible in a Year:
2 Samuel 5-8

One of the items posted at the beginning was the famous Flower Duet from “Lakme” by Leo Delibes. But there is another famous duet from French opera by Camille Saint-Saens from “Samson and Delilah”. Of the dozen operas he wrote, this is the only one that survived.

At 1:30 he unleashes this sinuous melody that builds until the mezzo releases it at 2:20. When Vickers unleashes his high B-flat at 5:53 have your handkerchief ready.

Saint-Saens: “My Heart is a Voice”

The siren’s were wailing just prior to me leaving for work.

Couldn’t find anything on the radio..

I find out tonight there was a small twister that hit on the other side of town..Just 6 houses in 1 neighborhood.

Not like a few weeks ago when one of the mega ones stayed on the ground for 60 miles.

She chewed her staples out twice.

Chewed up 3 lamp shades.

Threw a fit in the kennel..broke the gate and lacerated her arm. More staples to chew out.

I can only keep her dressed when my eyeballs are on her.

Ripped her dressing off this morning and opened her side again.

Tators and onions are planted and strawberries are comming on strong. Peppers are sprouting and corn goes in soon. I had to buy a new push mower today because the old one was falling apart after just eight years of faithful survice.

I had to indulge my craving for Taco Bell, so came home another way. That way takes me to the scene of the Lexus. I drove VERY slowly past THE intersection.

Home safe and sound, but, boy am I beat.

Hope you had a good day, and a nice safe commute without piggy issues. *HUGS*

Cesar Franck’s parents objected to his choice for a wife, and in the long run they turned out to be right. Felicite was a harridan.

Franck later fell in love with his student, the young blonde Augusta Holmes, who was the subject of love of every creative man in Paris at the time. Saint-Saens even proposed to her a number of times, but she chose the role of creative muse and mistress rather than anyone’s wife. Oh, those French!

Augusta was well endowed, and she liked showing off her cleavage. At the Paris Exhibition of 1889, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov was in Paris, met Augusta and remarked, “Tres decolletage!” That’s “Nice rack!” for you non-French speakers.

Franck could have been one of her many lovers, but being a good Catholic boy and a church organist, he merely lusted from afar. The passion for Augusta was responsible for his chamber music and his one symphony, and one can hear the passion he kept bridled in these pieces, which were among his greatest. If he’d bedded her, we would be without a lot of really great music.

Franck’s Violin Sonata is one of the greatest in the entire genre, and the finale is full of his best melody and counterpoint.

Franck: Violin Sonata in A Major, 4th Movement

Bummer! Hope it’s fixable!

How is your garden coming along? We have tulips now, but
not like last year. I think the drought and the late snow
did a job on them. :(
