Mozarts last concerto was for clarinet, thanks to his meeting with virtuoso Anton Stadler. This slow movement starts so conventionally that one can guess what the rest of the movement will sound like ahead of time. But that doesnt change the fact that its one of the most beautiful things he ever wrote.

Beethoven was 21 when Mozart died of a recurrence of rheumatic fever (most likely) at age 35. Beethoven had never met Mozart, but he had heard the older man perform. When he attended a performance of Mozarts Piano Concerto #24 in C minor, Beethoven remarked to his concert partner, Well never write anything like that. As it turned out, Beethoven was wrong. His Piano Concerto #3 in C minor was based on the Mozart piece and turned out to be a major success. In the first movement, Beethoven actually quotes an aria from Mozarts opera
Cosi fan tutte.
Mozart wrote a Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat, and Beethoven wrote his own quintet with the same configuration in the same key. In the second movement, Beethoven bases his theme on the opening notes of Mozarts Beat me, beat me, good Masetto from Don Giovanni. At 3:20, Beethoven even steals a bit from one of Mozarts Horn Concerti. Its a tip of the hat from one composer to another.
Beethoven: Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, Op. 16 (2nd movement)

Aloha Publius!
Strange, I just had an argument with a very good friend who stated, insisted actually, that Beethoven was a student of Mozart. As arguments go. I let it go. The years didn't match up. Thanks for the history.

Beethoven was a student of Haydn. He also took a class or two from Salieri.

As secondary syphilis began eating away at Schubert, his bipolar disorder came to the fore. This was something he had inherited from his mothers side of the family. Schubert made use of it in his A Major Sonata.
This slow movement is in F# minor, and it is a song of sadness, despondency and deep depression. Then at 2:41, Schubert sets a nervous breakdown to music. Just when you think you know what key youre in, he sweeps it away. Its totally disorienting and very unlike anything composed in 1828. He ends as he began, in bleakness.
Schubert: Piano Sonata in A Major, D. 959 (2nd movement)
