'The Children Are Off-Limits': White House In Fury Over Rick Santorum For Attacking Malia Obama's Trip To Mexico
By CHRISTINE SHOW 22 March 2012
Barack Obama responded Wednesday with shock to Rick Santorum's recent criticisms that the President was an irresponsible parent for sending his daughter to Mexico.
President Obama's deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, ripped the Republican presidential candidate for raising an issue about Malia Obama's recent school trip.
She blasted Mr Santorum for targeting the child on the campaign trail.
'Children off-limits': Barack Obama's campaign team blasted Rick Santorum for criticising the President's decision to let his daughter to travel to Mexico
Ms Cutter told MSNBC: 'I think that children, for candidate purposes, have always been off-limits in presidential campaigns, and really any campaign.
'I'm surprised that Rick Santorum wouldn't agree with that.' The comments came after Mr Santorum talked with Glenn Beck on his conservative radio show on Tuesday about his opinion on President Obama's decision to allow Malia, 13, to visit Mexico after the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning there.
He told Mr Beck: 'What I would say is that the President's actions should reflect what his administration is saying.
'If the administration is saying that it's not safe to have people down here, then just because you can send 25 Secret Service agents doesn't mean you should do it.'
'Set an example': Mr Santorum called President Obama irresponsible for sending daughter Malia, 13, to Mexico despite State Department travel warning
Mr Santorum went on to say: 'You should set an example. I think that's what presidents do. They set an example. And when the government is saying this is not safe, then you don't set the example by sending your kids down there.'

News was selectively leaked, then "purged" to provide an excuse for righteous indignation after the fact, when a political opponent dares to comment on the appropriateness of the trip.
He who defines, wins.
The liberals know that; we need to learn it.
It's easy for liberals to think that way because for them, words have flexible meanings which can be changed as needed (i.e., the Constitution). We, as conservatives, don't usually think that way — we're not trying to debate the definition of “is,” like Bill Clinton — but we need to be aware of the power of definitions and at the very least be prepared to counteract liberal efforts to redefine things.
In this case I'm prepared to believe it was an honest White House screwup to talk about a 13-year-old going on “Spring Break” — we have zero evidence to believe that President Obama believes in promoting wild immorality among middle school girls and I think Obama, like lots of other middle-class and professional black people, means it when he says he worries about the decline of the black family.
I'm much less convinced this was a school trip. If it was, then Sidwell Friends School should be able to document that — and there are lots of Republican congressmen and lobbyists and businessmen with students at Sidwell Friends who could easily confirm it one way or the other.
Well said!
Yeah, they have perfected that little stunt!
“One never low, do one?”
Don’t look at me, I never attack the ugly kids of Presidents or presidentwannabes!
Try using "Admin Moderator" rather than just "Moderator". That should work.
Thanks Bob. Didn’t think of that. I would think Mod, mod, moderator, admin mod, admin moderator, would all be interchangeable. Apparently not.
Exactly... This is a vivid example of BHO’s extremely poor judgment and lack of leadership. The daughter is not being attacked in any way. The father is being called to task for violating his own government's policy and for sending his daughter in harms way.
This is a red herring plain and simple. BHO is being irresponsible and his spokesperson is trying to distract away from the subject/point.
Sorry... stupid is as stupid does and judgment-wise Obama doesn't even come up to the Forest Gump standard on this one.
Hey, Obama, you d***** bag, he wasn;t attacking Malia. He was attacking the profligacy of your administration when it comes to special treatment you demand.
But then, since you think you are El Presidente of a third world nation, I suppose you see no issue there.
