Allen West Calls Trayvon Martin Shooting an ‘Outrage’ and Endorses Federal Investigation
The Blaze ^ | March 22, 2012 | Mytheos Holt

Ever since his CPAC Keynote Address in 2010, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has been one of the gold standards of modern American political conservatism. He has also been widely hailed as a political model for conservative African American politicians. And now, following recent revelations surrounding the highly suspicious shooting of Trayvon Martin, Rep. West has joined a growing bipartisan consensus calling for the case to be reopened, possibly even with Federal assistance. West’s statement, put out today by Talking Points Memo, resonates with controlled fury (emphasis added):

itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him….against the direction of the 911 responder. Let’s all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

All of those ‘facts’ you list don’t fit with the police report and follow up reports. In fact, I think everything you stated is false.

First, Martin was 6’ 160lbs, not the 6’3” 200lbs you list. See the police report below.

There is no statement by Zimmerman in the police report stating that Martin was on his chest. Zimmerman gave his statement to both officers at the time of the incident and did not state that. Zimmerman also did not tell either officer that he was being punched.

Martin was with his father visiting his father’s girlfriend who lived in the neighborhood, thus he had a legal right to be there.

Martin had no responsibility to stop for an unidenfiable individual who was trying to detain him.

The police report indicates that the responding officer had Zimmerman at gunpoint, then cuffed him and put him in his car.

The police report indicates that Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose. I don’t know where you get ‘broken nose’ from. I see no witness statements to that effect.

The police list charges of Negligent Homicide and Manslaughter on their first report. Apparaently, the two responding officers did not think Mr. Zimmerman was quite so innocent.

The Castle Doctrine is irrelevant here because Ziummerman innitiated the confrontation.

Zimmerman started it by exiting his vehicle and pursuing Martin.

Ok, I read the pdf, and no where did it state that Zimmerman was charged with any crime.

In fact, it stated that the officers observed injuries to Zimmerman, and it also stated that Zimmerman stated that the sceams for help where his.

At this point I’m wondering if Trayon’s corpse showed any other trauma aside from the bullet wound...

Anyhow I appreciate the police reports that support Zimmerman’s version of events.

Thanks much.

Just checked the pdf.

Zimmerman wasn’t arrested, he was assaulted and he defended himself according to the police.

Head in the sand? I think not.

No, I think he’s reading the police report and follow up reports as you should before throwing West under the bus.

Who here is claiming racially motivated or pre-meditated? As for the "facts" you've presented, there is much confusion in what is being reported. If this took place within a "gated" community, of which all gated communities I've seen have gates which require key cards or codes to open, what is the explaination of how this youth came to be there? If the youth was behaving suspiciously, where are the witnesses to said suspicious behavior? As for whether the youth was in a physical confrontation with Mr. Zimmerman, if I were being stalked by someone I would for damned sure confront them, especially given that I was not engaged in any illicit activity.

No where have I made a claim that Zimmerman is guilty of pre-meditated murder. I have questions regarding how this incident happened, and I believe it is prudent to have an investigation. If Zimmerman was indeed using self-defense, then an investigation should show that. Why the fear of having an investigation?

So Mr. Zimmmerman doesn’t have a right to get out and walk in his own gated community? Interesting.

Mr. Martin ran away from Mr. Zimmerman shortly after Mr. Zimmerman got out of his truck. Were you not aware of that?

And, of course, you were there and witnessed the incident, right? No? Oh, then the officer who you claim wrote that Zimmerman defended himself was witness to the incident? No? Oh, then there are numerous witnesses to the incident from the begining of all that took place leading up to the shooting? No? Then, where do you or anyone else get off making facts where there are no facts. Why would you fear an outside investigation? Yes, head in sand.

'First, Martin was 6’ 160lbs, not the 6’3” 200lbs you list. See the police report below.'

I obviously have my own opinion. But, that 6' 160lbs, is off the dead kids drivers license. That's how they knew who he was. He could have grown from when he was issued that card.

The portrayal of George Zimmerman in the media, as well as the series of events that led to the tragic shooting are false and extremely misleading. Unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have used this tragedy to further their own causes and agendas.

This I believe!

If there is an Enemy its the MSM - quit fighting amongest yourselves.

Where have I advocated that Al Sharpton et al should be listened to and believed? In fact, I’ve not read any comment here which suggests that. I’ve only stated that I believe an independent investigation appears appropriate given that there are so many questions that have been raised. Are you saying that you fear an independent investigation? If so, why?

And from what I've read, the "kid" had done nothing to warrant being followed, first in an SUV and then on foot, by Zimmerman, who ignored police dispatcher instructions that he should not pursue Martin.

That is not what the police said.

If Zimmerman was told not to continue to follow Trayvon, can that be considered in this investigation?

Yes it will; however, the telecommunications call taker asked Zimmerman, “Are you following him?” Zimmerman replied, “Yes.” The call taker stated, “You don’t need to do that.”

The call taker’s suggestion is not a lawful order that Mr. Zimmerman would be required to follow. Zimmerman’s statement was that he had lost sight of Trayvon and was returning to his truck to meet the police officer, when he says he was attacked by Trayvon.

Dumb a$$! They are investigating. I am adamantly against a FEDERAL investigation. This is for the local and state to handle it. I think Al Racebaiter and others just called for violence yet no one (including you) are calling for a federal investigation. Mr West can go pound sand too. Its a local/state issue. Holder can go to hell. Anyone agreeing with a Holder investigation in this should be zotted immediately because this is NOT a nanny overpowering pro Holder site.

Just because you don't like how/rate/outcome of the ongoing investigation doesn't give the federal got jurisdiction into this unless your a race baiter and a troll. So go FO!

What you’ve posted proves nothing more than after the fact details. There is nothing there which provides any facts that either Zimmerman or Martin started the incident. There has been no witness statements which have provided evidence of any kind prior to the reported fighting and the shot being heard. Zimmerman could easily have confronted Martin, and Martin could have engaged in “self-defense”. The fact that the guy with the gun won means nothing as to who the original aggressor is.

To me it sounds like you have swallowed the Leftist Flavor-Aid.

The Feds don’t need to stick their noses into a city/town matter that they have investigated already. If the state thinks that the police department acted improperly let them do the investigation.

Everything I have read plus what I heard on the 911 calls indicates to me that Mr. Zimmerman was justified in shooting Trayvon because it was Trayvon was attacked first.

It would appear that you’ve tried, convicted, and sentenced a dead 17 year old who is unable to give his side of what happened. That is sad.
