Ever since his CPAC Keynote Address in 2010, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has been one of the gold standards of modern American political conservatism. He has also been widely hailed as a political model for conservative African American politicians. And now, following recent revelations surrounding the highly suspicious shooting of Trayvon Martin, Rep. West has joined a growing bipartisan consensus calling for the case to be reopened, possibly even with Federal assistance. Wests statement, put out today by Talking Points Memo, resonates with controlled fury (emphasis added):
itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him
.against the direction of the 911 responder. Lets all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

LOL. That report says Zimmerman was weightless. Apparently the reporting officer has a part-time gig at the fair guessing weights.
The story certainly is appalling to me. Col West’s response is very responsible and tempered for which he should be applauded. I agree with everything he said. He is as true an American Hero and statesman as we have seen in some time.
My objections to this situation and equally appalled at the actions by Al Sharpton and the like to start a vigilante committee. True there was neglect in the investigation at best and racism at worst, however, pressure was brought to bear in the proper way in order to get to the bottom of this horrible situation.

I might suggest that you apologize for that stupid post my FRiend. Think first, think again and then type having a clear thought process intact.
I’ve gone through all the information including the 9-11 tapes. There are 6 witnesses listed in the police report, but no statements regarding details of the physical confrontation.

The police report states that Zimmerman had grass stains on his shirt and Martin was laying face down in the grass.
I didn’t say there wasn’t a struggle. I do assert that Zimmerman started the confrontation, and therefore the charge of Negligent Homicide or Manslaughter should have been pressed as was listed in the original police report.
Welcome to the Troll City. It’s an honor to be accused of trolling by the professional FR troll, I tell ya!
I’m getting that feeling!
How did Zimmerman start the confrontation? Did Zimmerman throw the first punch?
Trayvon Martin was walking through a gated community which had experienced numerous thefts by black youths. Note: gated community = private property.
He was noticed by a member of the community watch, a Mr. Zimmerman, who pursued the 6’-3”, 200 lb. highschool football player, loudly asking why he was on the property and what he was doing. When he couldn’t get Tryvon to stop, he tried to return to his vehicle.
Two witnesses say they saw the assault on Mr. Zimmerman, a small, pudgy Hispanic male, by the much larger Mr. Martin. Mr. Martin has been described as sitting on Mr. Zimmerman’s chest, beating the smaller man’s face with his fists.
When the police FINALLY arrived, they found Mr. Zimmerman lying prone on the ground with a broken nose and bloody contusions to his head. Mr. Martin was dead, a bullet hole in his chest.
1. Mr.Zimmerman was where he belonged.
2. Mr.Martin was supposedly “passing through”.
3. Mr.Zimmerman was assaulted and severly injured, as two witnesses attest.
4. Mr.Martin ended up dead.
Was the shooting in self-defense? The police believe Mr.Zimmerman was where he belonged, as he lived in the gated community, and was assaulted with violent intent. The “Castle doctrine” fits.
No, I do not agree with Rep.West.
Note: all the above facts were garnered from threads posted yesterday on Free Republic. Amazingly, even the Boston Herald had an article on this incident.
Until we get more facts, how can anyone suggest that the attack was racially motivated or premeditated?
In LA, Mexicans shooting anyone is a normal day every since the Fast and Furious debacle.
I think maybe Allen West has not been completely briefed on all of the circumstances of the event. There is a good self defense case with eye witnesses and a 911 call with Zimmerman screaming help. He’s not an appealing guy but there is probably not a case agains’t him or the cops would already have arrested him.
I’m amazed at the number of people here who appear to be afraid of there being an investigation into what happened.
If there are no witness statements what do you base your belief that Zimmerman started the fioght on? Just asking btw. There’s so much hearsay and crap flying around it’s hard to make sense of this.
He only becomes confused by facts.
Too bad. I think Congressman West is responding to the media coverage and the emotion of the moment.
I’m amazed at the number of people who believe everything the Leftist media and racebaiters say!
