Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.
Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.
"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

“Doesnt matter, Romney isnt going to win anyway. Hes spent the whole primary winning Obama strongholds while insulting conservatives.”
And what will cost Romney the election, should he be the nominee, is that many conservatives across the nation will be so discouraged and stay home.
Romney is Obama-lite and Newt, Rick and Ron and no better. Furthermore, I am surprised that some conservatives seem to be supporting Newt, anyway, considering that he has done some very anti-conservative things, such as frantically supporting Dede Scozzafava in NY-23, promoting going after global warming while sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi, among other things.
He is right! I will never vote for Romney! Romney will lose big time to Hussein. No more Rinos.
Santorum is where he is at now because he was the last Anti-Romney to “peak” but if he were to have said something like this a while back, he would be worse toast than Herman Cain. Its too bad that Newt peaked so early leaving Santorum to make an a** out of himself with comments like that.
Consider the other possibility, that a second Obama term will unite Conservatives like never before. United, he can never break us. A Romney Presidency (not that he’s going to win anyway, mind you), will only further fragment the Conservative movement.
I think our only hope at this point is to throw all our $upport behind outfits like SarahPAC and revive the TEA party so we can lobby, influence, force, steer, cajole, and convince the eventual nominee and Congress to stay on the RIGHT course and buy us some time to undo all the statist damage that has been done to our Republic, while we get a real leader and President in 2016.
Scott Walker should be ready by then. Which is why it is so important that he prevails in Wisconsin.
Hahaha. When I hear people say they will vote for Obama if
Romney wins the nod then I figure they would have voted for OBama anyway. I am with Mark anyone but Obama
As long as there was any chance that anyone but Romney could possibly go up against Obama, I supported anyone but Romney. But anything, even Romney, is better than Obama in my opinion. I dont know how anyone could let Obama win by not voting for the Republican nominee. I mean, I hate Romney, but Romney did go through the process and he is going to be the nominee. The alternative is much, much worse. And Conservatives that can let Obama waltz back into the White House, I almost understand them, but I cant really understand them.
Anyone who needs a reset regarding voting for the republican nominee, whoever that will be, just needs to try and imagine what America will be after 4 more unfettered years of Obama... Doesn't look like Rick is capable of that kind of mental exercise... being holier-than-thou consumes a lot of mental energy.
What do you think Romney is more loyal to, The LDS, or the USA?
- - - -
That’s an easy one. Romney took blood oaths to put the LDS church above all (not God, not Christ, but an organization).
Frankly, the LDS church NEEDS Romney to be POTUS to stem the tide of people leaving and taking their money with them. They need the money to build more malls.
And apparently many here on FR agree ... those that refuse to vote for Romney in the general election if he gets the GOP nomination.
Milt is (fill in the blank, I'm too lazy). But I don't think he hates this country and the concept of “America” like Obama clearly does. That's my limit on non-negative script I can conjure up regarding Milt.
Is Santorum serious? Well, now there's two GOP POTUS candidates I'll never vote for.
This is the proverbial “STAR TREK MIND RAPE BY AN EARTH PIMP “ Ping.
How is Obama worse than Romney? I keep asking this over and over again to people like you, but all I seem to get is the same party-line refrain over and over again. Is it really so difficult to break with the establishment talking heads?
Romney signed both cap & trade and socialized medicine into law in Massachusetts. He then advocated Obama to adopt the individual mandate on a national level. Almost all of his judicial appointments were far-left liberals. He defended the bailouts. He promised NARAL in 2002 that he would do more to support abortion than a Democrat. HE’S ON VIDEO ADMITTING THAT HE’S A PROGRESSIVE.
Now tell me what -specifically- in that is better than Obama. Better yet, I’ll save the the effort: you can’t say what’s better, because those are Obama’s same damned positions!
You know the token opposition we get from the GOP now under McConnell and Boehner? Even that would melt away under President Romney, and we’d be left with nothing. The establishment machine would permanently extinguish what little remains of the Tea Party.
You don’t have to vote for Obongo to take a stand against this! Just ignore the presidential race and concentrate on where we can really make a difference: the Senate.
“I think our only hope at this point is to throw all our $upport behind outfits like SarahPAC and revive the TEA party”
Sarah really needs to step in. We really can’t expect our current squad of GOP buffoons to take on Obama and win, can we?
The only thing worst than nominating another RINO is Obama's re-election.
There are plenty of rising star conservatives out there. It's a long haul. Goldwater to Reagan was 16 years.
We are now in the danger zone, many have said that going over 50%+1 of Americans dependent upon the public teat will rob the rest of us. Elect a strong conservative Congress, hold their feet to the fire, and Romney Administration will know which way the winds blow.
The play know is for him to pick a Conservative VP who will carry on in 8 years. Reagan choose poorly with George HW Bush. Romney can't make the same mistake.
Who should it be?
Wow, Santorum really knows how to scuttle his own campaign. No way would I support anyone this desperate. I’m not excited about any of the GOP candidates, but any one of them is far preferable to Obama. These primary candidates just can’t handle the fact that Romney is kicking their butts. The constant crying about Romney’s money was bad enough, but now they have to go out kicking and screaming like this? Pathetic.
Santorum was my 3rd choice line in the sand candidate after Bachmann and Cain. If Romney is the nominee, I’ll be treating downticket races like the big show.
You're funny. Sad thing is, it wasn't even a hot mike moment, he said it straight out. This is what happens when rick isn't stealing quotes from Newt and using Newt's ideas as his own... people get a glimpse.
Did the conservatives unite behind those conservative candidates who wanted to run in the beginning? NO!! Michele Bachmann didn’t get much backing and Santorum “claims” to be conservative and he can’t get enough backing to beat Romney much less beat Obama.
We won’t have a chance to unite unless you are talking about armed inserrection against the WH. Our freedoms are dwindling away daily.
I honestly believe it’s now or never to save our way of life in this country.....BO is being run by some wicked people in the background with lots of $$$.
Divide and conquer, that is Obama’s game and the R’s have fallen right into his hands.
