Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.
Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.
"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

I actually disagree with him, but I don’t see how you can condemn someone for holding a position that’s almost the same as yours.
Sure, you can say that not voting won’t affect the election. But why ever vote then, since your vote will never matter?
FReepers are not running for president.... there is a big difference.
“I am outraged everytime Rick Santorum runs his mouth. I am and have been disgusted with his crash and burn mode of campaigning, now against his own party. He is one of the most self-absorbed candidates I have ever seen.”
Indeed. At least Bill Clinton had charm to go with his narcissism.
That is my biggest fear, and for exactly those reasons. I lived under a Romney administration, he is NOT Conservative, and insulting of Conservatives is nothing new.
This entire thread, which I skimmed and went back and read more thoroughly, just takes me back to 2004, it's McCain all over again. I am not alone in that feeling. If we have to we will hold our nose and pull the lever, even though after the last loser the GOP-e "gave" us we told ourselves never again. But I tell you all this, we will resent the h311 out of it!!!! And that WILL be made known.
Personally, I am more offended by what the Romney campaign guy said, than I am to what Santorum said.
You are 100% correct.
If Rick is the Nominee, it will be taken out of context by the Obama Campaign over and over again. The Electorate will eat it up and will see it as Santorum praising Obama.
We who really pay attention to the details are but a small part of the Electorate. Out of context or not, Rick blew it again. If he is the Nominee, Obama will skate right back into the White House.
Ok, sorry, I didn’t mean you individually. But many freepers have said they would only vote down ticket.
Mittens is for American. A Moderate to Liberal America yes. I am positive that you can not honestly say that about Obammy.

I don’t disagree, but are you really going to “teach them a lesson” by staying home?
If they were going to learn that lesson, they would have learned it in 2008, wouldn’t they?
Good description.
This is the Dean’s Scream equivalent that we were anticipating from Rick. It was one reason that we wanted Newt to stay in the race. Thank god he did. Another candidate is needed, however, fast.
Me neither. The man is an idiot that knows how to play the SoCon violin...very well...but still an idiot and traitor to everything that is small government.
He just wants a DIFFERENT big government.
Enemy of the people.
The USA.
Very possible. I honestly can’t imagine voting for either of the two “leading” candidates. And if either one of them is the nominee, most Americans won’t be able to imagine voting for them either.
Something has got to happen. This is such a crucial time.
NYCslicker, well said.
There are hundreds of nearsighted morons on this site saying the same thing.
Simple. All they care about is getting the top guy's job instead of fixing this nation.
No apologies necessary, Yaelle. But thank you.
