Why is President Obama so rattled by Newt Gingrich?
Fox News ^ | March 20, 2012 | Liz Peek

Posted on 03/20/2012 8:11:10 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

The president has scoffed at Gingrich’s promise to lower gasoline prices to $2.50, while likening those who challenge his own love affair with alternative fuels to “founding members of the flat earth society.”

The president describes suggested measures that could bring down gas prices as akin to waving a “magic wand”; his press secretary Jay Carney accused anyone promising $2.50 gas of “lying”. How can Mr. Gingrich, who is nearly out of the GOP race, so rattle the White House?

There are good reasons for Mr. Obama’s discomfort. First is the almost immediate hit to the president’s popularity when gasoline prices go up. Rightly or wrongly, Americans hold him accountable. In fact, the president is vulnerable on this topic.

He has consistently portrayed fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas as energy products of the past while expressing an almost unimaginably naïve optimism about the potential of alternatives. His attachment to high-cost “green” energy has played well with environmentalists but for most of the country – the roughly 50% not concerned about global warming -- it is increasingly viewed as an expensive boondoggle.

.....Perhaps Gingrich’s most nettlesome issue for the president, however, comes from the notion that the former House speaker is, as the Washington Post describes him, one of the GOP’s “most visible and prolific idea men.”

Party aside, President Obama surely thinks of himself in this way. He is the new generation, he is the seer of the future, he is the most capable of embracing new technology.

The irony is that it is President Obama who is out of step with new technology......

Obama is afraid of Gingrich because he can’t argue him down.
And if you think he’s afraid of Gingrich, he’s terrified of Palin.

Which is the best idea, a chance that Newt could bring down gas prices or King Obama wanting ten dollars a gallon. Get real and make real choices.

And Romney or Santorum haven't the slightest idea how. America shafted itself by not realizing the changes Newt could make. Lost out to two losers.

If Mitt would take that approach he’d be a shoe in.

He is rattled because O knows that Gingrich can beat him.

Gingrich is the only one who can frame the debate to be about Obama and not have Obama define his Opponent.

Hell, Gingrich is the one who started pushing the oil and he will define the other issues instead of Obama if conservatives are smart enough and determined enough to nominate him

Because Obama’s internal poll numbers clearly show that gas prices are a big negative for him and drop his numbers big time.

Gingrich appears to be the only candidate in the position to attack on energy. Santorum must have problems in this area unknown to us and it looks like Romney does too.

If Mitt would take that approach he’d be a shoe in.

Romney’s Troubling Appointments (Mitt's environmental policy team now works for Obama) …………….“"EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has taken most of the fire from Republicans as her agency rolls out a slew of controversial new climate and clean air rules. But McCarthy, the EPA assistant administrator of the Office of Air and Radiation, has taken on much of the heavy lifting of writing, structuring, and implementing the rules.

“Lisa’s the coach and Gina’s the quarterback” in the work of rolling out new clean air regulations, said Daniel Weiss, an energy and climate policy expert at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank with close ties to the Obama administration. “She’s running the plays, improvising on the line.”

Another Romney environmental adviser in the effort to regulate “greenhouse gases” is now Obama’s Director of Science and Technology Policy, John Holdren. Dr. Holdren has some exotic views: …………..

Mitt Romney's environmental coal policies--Obama's environmental coal policies.

:: oil, coal and natural gas as energy products of the past ::

Didn’t early civilization depend on the sun for heat and wind for motive energy?

As I recall, major ocean-going transportation only 200 years ago was wind powered; military might was determined by wind-power navy vessels.

I would say that solar and wind are “energy products of the past”.

“Alga-line” or whatever you call “gasoline from algae” will also be $2.50 per gallon....with a Federal subsidy of $1,800 per gallon. No problem!

"How can Mr. Gingrich, who is nearly out of the GOP race, so rattle the White House?"

Maybe according to their view but not mine. They keep trying to talk Newt's candidacy down. Wait for the convention and see what happens. My belief is that Sarah will throw her support to Newt and then, ....... then watch the battle begin! ....... :O)
