YOUR RELIGION, NOT MINE
"Religion is a great force, the only real motive force in the world. But you must get at [someone] through [her/his] own religion, not yours." --George Bernard Shaw
Real wisdom here; real insight. The adage presupposes the benefits of faith, but it nicely understands that faith is a personal matter unique to each individual. This is not to subvert the strength of organized or institutional religions, but rather to highlight the personal element each must bring to belief. Faith groups, temples, mosques, churches, creeds, doctrines, organizations . . . all of these are important, and offer valued aspects of faith and religion. Many of us could share with you how a particular faith practice nourishes us in living deep and spiritual lives, but we could not give you the precise faith-package that would fit you. Each of us has a personal journey of experience that begets a personal faith.
The greater challenge in journeying with others in their spiritual journey is to assist them in finding their own faith. And perhaps it will be Catholic, or Muslim, or Jewish or Baptist or any of the other world religions. But it will also be particularly their own. God calls and forms each of us in individual, unique ways. What is most important is that each of us discern God's spirit working in our lives, and who and how that Spirit is shaping and challenging us.
This is not an endorsement of "to each their own" selfishness or self-centeredness, but rather an endorsement of the fact that God calls each of us, and forms each of us with particular attentiveness and tenderness. The spiritual challenge is to ask the question, "Why me God, and why in this particular way?" The answer for each of us, the faith of each of us, will be as various as the fishes of the deep or the birds of the air.

The Slippery Slope Of Success
March 18, 2012
Among the more than 19,000 original epigrams penned by chemist and writer Dr. O. A. Battista is this wise observation: You have reached the pinnacle of success as soon as you become uninterested in money, compliments, or publicity. Unfortunately, just the opposite often happens when something we have done is praised and rewarded. A humble heart can quickly become a swelled head.
Just before Saul was anointed king, he saw himself as a member of an insignificant family in the smallest tribe of Israel (1 Sam. 9:21). Within a few years, however, he had erected a monument in his own honor and had become the supreme authority for his conduct (15:11-12). The prophet Samuel confronted Saul for his disobedience to God by reminding him, When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel? (v.17).
Self-importance is the first step down the slippery slope of what we call success. It begins when we claim credit for God-given victories and modify His commands to suit our desires.
True success is staying on Gods path by following His Word and giving Him praise instead of craving it for ourselves.
Help me, O Lord, lest my heart become proud, For all of my talents by You are endowed; Nothing I have can I claim as my own What mercy and grace in my life You have shown! D. De Haan
True humility credits God for every success.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Two lessons, two little girls, and a couple of musical breakthroughs! :-)
I taught one little girl (third grader) how to make up her own left hand accompaniment from mere chord symbols!
