When people download a film from Netflix to a flatscreen, or turn on web radio, they could be alerting unwanted watchers to exactly what they are doing and where they are.
Spies will no longer have to plant bugs in your home - the rise of 'connected' gadgets controlled by apps will mean that people 'bug' their own homes, says CIA director David Petraeus.
The CIA claims it will be able to 'read' these devices via the internet - and perhaps even via radio waves from outside the home.
Everything from remote controls to clock radios can now be controlled via apps - and chip company ARM recently unveiled low-powered, cheaper chips which will be used in everything from fridges and ovens to doorbells.
The resultant chorus of 'connected' gadgets will be able to be read like a book - and even remote-controlled, according to CIA CIA Director David Petraeus, according to a recent report by Wired's 'Danger Room' blog.
Petraeus says that web-connected gadgets will 'transform' the art of spying - allowing spies to monitor people automatically without planting bugs, breaking and entering or even donning a tuxedo to infiltrate a dinner party.
'Transformational is an overused word, but I do believe it properly applies to these technologies,' said Petraeus.

Then, they gotta be just as bored as I am with the current batch of TV listings...click,click,click,click,click... (Are they serious? "Shawshank Redemption" four nights in a row next week?)
I disconnected the intergrated camera and microphone on my company-issued machine from the laptop’s mainboard.
Only way to be sure.
2 + 2 = 5
First off Mr. Petraeus may need a little reminder that people may be planting bugs in their own homes but they are NOT planting a WARRANT in the hands of the CIA or any other government authority.
Second, connected gadgets controlled by apps is just that. Gadgets being controlled by other gadgets. How long before "apps" will control stuff while you are away in ways that make it look like you are there? Technology can and WILL work in both ways. Years before "apps" that control things people used to set lights on timers so that they would go on and off while they were away. This made it appear that someone was home. The same thing will occur with all these apps and remote controlled devices. People will get wise and configure devices so that anyone watching will not know if they are actually home or not.

I dont agree with him on everything, but on these type of issues he is the only one addressing them.
That's only according to the law. The FedMob doesn't care about that anymore.
The truth has already been known for decades. Anything that picks up a signal, can transmit one. That is why no electronics are allowed in top secret areas.
(Only a courtesy ping for the mods. Since I mentioned them, I should ping them.)
You are right. 2 + 2 = 5 and Obama is an American.
I was about to comment on the microphone aspect - taping over the video lens doesn’t shut off the microphone.
I know a guy that found that out the hard way, in the context of a webcast he thought he had shut down by covering the lens after a webcast but leaving the program running.
Ouch.
I just want to tell the thought police CIA that I am as deathly afraid of super models as Winston Smith was of rats. So if I'm sent to Room 101 and Heidi Klum is waiting for me I'll confess to everything after a few hours of interrogation.
Are you actually paranoid if they outright TELL you what they are doing?
Isn’t it though? Imagine what a fascinating book or movie the actual history of this coup would make. I believe this plan was hatched many years ago in the brains of people who hate America, people like Bill Ayers and his wife and pals in the Weather Underground. That’s what Breitbart knew and was planning on telling us. Thank God he left his operation in such capable hands. I do think the tide is turning and the left is finally being exposed. Hopefully and prayerfully, it is not too late.
I don’t know, Karl. Given your great fear of Heidi, I think you should request a few DAYS of interrogation.
:)
All of this new technology is going to be a threat to the porn industry. ;-)

How about ending a Microsoft office meeting as the presenter sharing your screen and after the call ends, hitting the internet. I’ve seen it. Almost did it myself once. In fact, I’m doing it now. :-)
Could you have conceived and executed the surge strategy in Iraq?
I couldn’t have.
Well, I would take this as a warning from Petraeus. If the CIA can watch us, then so can political enemies or the Obama FBI or the communists in the White House. I gotta go dismantle our smoke detectors now. The lights on them make me paranoid.

I would be more worried about black glassy looking parts....
Than a Bright red LED
