BOSTON -- Two Massachusetts congressmen and actor George Clooney were among a group of protesters arrested in Washington, D.C., outside the Sudanese embassy as they spoke out against food shortages in the region.
Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern and Rep. John Olver were with the group demanding that Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir end the blockade that they say is preventing food and humanitarian aid from reaching the people of Sudan's Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile regions.
Bashir's forces are accused of creating the food shortage in the region by bombing fields and preventing villagers from planting crops in July and August.
"We are protesting to make sure the Sudanese government knows that the world is watching," McGovern said. "The United States Congress is watching. And we will be back again and again until they stop using food as a weapon; stop slaughtering innocent men, women and children; and stop spitting in the face of the world community."
After speaking on the steps of the embassy to hundreds of activists, members of Congress and activist leaders were asked by police to leave the scene. When the protest continued, officers arrested those who would not comply.
Former Rep. Tom Andrew, Rep. Al Green, Rep. Jim Moran and other human rights and faith leaders were also arrested.
Olver is retiring this year.
Rev Al Green? The “I’m So Tired Of Being Alone” singer?
Too bad more MA pols can’t be arrested...a certain tax evading (on his boat) senator; how about John Tierney who didn’t know about his money laundering wife...Ed Markey...
Frank. There are so many...
Everyone who gives a fluke that clooney was arrested, please raise your hands. You lie down with dogs, chances are you’re going to get fleas.

Food shortages in DC?
Oh well, the average congresscritter could stand to drop a few pounds anyway....
There are no coincidences in politics.
If they can't get us into a war with Iran, they'll just go somewhere else to get us into a war.
Actually reading the article, we find to our
amazment that they were’t arrested while protesting
but were arrested afterwards when they failed to obey
a police order. Gosh.
Maybe, just maybe, Some Sudaneses will kidnap him and chop his head off.
His liberal protest was for the wrong reason.
Barney Frank could go on a hunger strike

Apologies. I see your story is from a different source.
yup, though this one mentions the MA congressmen. Don’t think the other did but I could be wrong. It briefly made the headlines on CH 7 Boston news at noon and I went online to find details (which were on a rival station’s site)
no prob
“Barney Frank could go on a hunger strike”
Marion Barry’s hero....
Barney missed his chance after his home escort business was busted.
Wishful thinking. Even if they did lop off his head, it's not like he's using his brain for anything except as a knot to keep his spinal cord from unraveling...
You have to keep in mind that liberals are from the left side of the Laffer Curve. They are rather like Kelly Bundy. If they "learn" something new, something old gets shoved out. I'd be willing to wager that Cloony's opinions on the Sudan bumped his knowledge of how to get to the nearest 7-11, and the name of his dog...
Thank you for your comments. I enjoyed them.
I loved your desciption of his lack of brain function.
This piece of fundillo (in the Panamanian Spanish culture it means ass. It means lesser things in other Latin cultures) purchased an expensive home on the edge of Lake Como in Italy.
He wanted the area between his home and down to the lakeshore to be his private property too, which is considered and is public property. He fought it in court for a couple of years; and in the end, the Italian court told him to go to hell.
They are the classic example of an "Ugly American," and figure, somehow, that cubic money is an acceptable substitute for chewing with your mouth closed and not urinating in the potted palms.
I’m guessing Clooney needs some publicity, his movies must not be making money..
