White House Press Secretary Jay Carney suggested Newt Gingrich is lying when he claims that he could reduce gasoline prices to $2.50 per gallon.
Carney, who spoke during todays White House briefing, did not specifically refer to Gingrich, saying instead that anybody who says that a strategy exists that can make the price at the pump $2.50 is lying. But Gingrich has made his claimed ability to reduce prices to $2.50 a gallon a major plank of his campaign, and the comment was clearly directed at the former speaker.
Washington politicos rarely resort to the verb to lie when referring to their opponents statements. The tactic usually is to call something misleading or untruthful.
Carneys tough wording suggests the enormity of the threat the White House perceives from rising gas prices and the pain for voters at the pump. Carney and other White House officials have repeatedly insisted that there is little the president can do to stem the increases, and have suggested a longer term all of the above approach that includes not only drilling but development of alternative fuel sources.
All the more reason to get rid of the Obama-bunch this November. They lack imagination in the important sphere of energy production and national security. Hope is not a strategy.
Someone needs to ask Carney what the president predicts the price of gasoline to be on the first of each month from April through November.
Bahahaha Obama’s numbers are plummeting!
Carney and other White House officials have repeatedly insisted that there is little the president can do to stem the increases, and have suggested a longer term all of the above excuses approach.
Newt is in 0’s head. 0 fears Newt. Can you imagine 0 getting this worked up over something Santorum said?
More supply will bring prices down. But if I were Newt I’d be very careful about promising a particular price by a particular date. Markets just don’t work that way.
Carney—an appropriate name for the huckster of this sham carnival known as the Obama administration.
It is apparent that the little twerp Carney, and the other Hitler youth, are terrified of these gas prices and there is nothing they can do about it. The one man who can do something about it, thank the Lord, and probably will in one way or another is Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu. The more I read and watch, I believe he has the ability to get rid of Zero. I wish he was our POTUS! In Bebe we trust!!
And if Carney backs off the entire press corps ought to walk out of the briefing. That ought to be the first and only question asked until Obama’s mouthpiece asks him to predict the price of gas and Obama give him the numbers or Obama appears and says he has no idea because he has no real energy policiy.
ohhhh dat is fighting words . . . knock em out Newt!!!! Carney is a waste of oxygen.
LoL. Marxists always fail at macro economics.
Newt told Chris Wallace on Sunday Talk, it will be in about 2 years. For the WH to call a presidential candidate a “liar” especially on the eve of do-or-die electoral battles in MS and AL is pretty serious stuff. This is unbecoming. But then again this is the Obama WH. But I think Newt needs to lower the boom on this one.
Yes lets talk about ‘lying’, you pasty nerd.
He’s never predicted a particular price by a particular date. In any economic discussion you have to be able to make estimates. Saying “it will go lower” is not enough. Newt has said $2.50 is the ceiling of where he thinks it can go, that it can go lower. Whether Newt gives a specific number or not, his energy policy will be considered a failure if gas stays at this price 4 years into his term. If it’s $2.75, I’m sure people will cut him some slack. No reason to be cowardly and not publically declare a goal.
Well, I’ll give Newt a lot of credit for twisting Obama’s manhose on this one. Go git’em Newtie.
Oh yeah. Keep talking Carney.
Really? He’s lying? It was way less than that when his boy took office.
All of those years of screaming “EVERYTHING IS BUSH’S FAULT!!!” is coming back to haunt the Democrats now.
They convinced the sheeple that Bush/Cheney controlled oil prices, and Obama promised to lower them.
Now, they can’t talk them down, and the sheeple are paying MORE for gas, than they did under Bush.
The Magic Sqwauking Box in the living room can convince a person of many things, but it can’t convince you that what you are paying out of your own wallet isn’t real.
