With Tuesdays Alabama and Mississippi primaries on the horizon, Bill Maher sent filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi to the heart of Mississippi to interview some prospective voters, and what she found was some scary footage of voters who feared President Obama was a Muslim and promising the South will rise again. The panel, including Jon Hamm and Michael Steele, analyzed the situation and, after making a few jokes about the subjects teeth, argued that education was the only solution to their poverty.
With two caveats that all these people knew they were going to be on this show and they all think Im going to Hell and we are going to send Alexandra Pelosi to the inner city in the future Maher introduced a segment that depicted various Mississippi men (all white men, and no women, despite the state being 51% female and 37% black) complaining about Adam and Steve, claiming they hated the government while being on food stamps, and threatening that the South will rise again. There was also talk of hating black people and the President for being a half-breed.
Maher and Hamm made some jokes about the lack of teeth in the video, though Maher praised their attitude in some respects there is something noble about saying wed rather go hungry than take free money. Hamm agreed, adding that the Republican Party is the party of youre going to win the lottery and a miracle is going to happen, which is somewhat improbable to say the least.
Steele defended those hopes, noting that they were natural and American. No one wakes up in the morning and says, All I want to be today is poor. He did find the South will rise again rhetoric weird, asking what the hell does that mean, exactly? Former SEIU head Andy Stern was actually more aggressive towards Democrats than Republicans, noting that they werent offering the sort of viable alternative to people like the ones in the film that would entice them. Democrats have to figure out how to speak to people, too there isnt an alternative, it looks like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
Catherine Crier noted that even Adam Smith had called for a social safety net to guarantee the functioning of capitalism, which led to a discussion on the trampoline vs. net analogy, and to the ultimate conclusion that public education that works is key to fixing these issues.

Despite his smugness Maher always strikes me as a man who deeply hates himself, and I doubt he’s much of a joy to be around.
Apparently Maher has no mirrors in his home or studio.
I’ll bet when jihadis sent 3000 New Yorkers to their graves on 9-11, it was boys from Mississippi and Alabama who overwhelmingly volunteered to saddle up and help take out the rat b*st*rds responsible.
Let’s hear it for Alabama and Mississippi! And Louisiana, Texas and Missouri, too!
Only an uneducated jerk wouldn’t know what is meant by “the South will rise again!”
That’s ok Bill because jay Leno often does the Jay walking segment that shows just how low of an IQ Hollywood voters have.I’d much rather surround myself with people from the south than low lives such as yourself who *think* they are so superior...when the rest of us know better.
Today, Ich bin ein Southerner.
mmm, weird how this was not mentioned.
daughter Pelosi went around the south in 2008 making a so called documentry and saw some black guys hanging out the store.
She asked the black guys about racism down south etc and this is how they replied to her.
“You come down here looking for racism and yet you ignore how the word nigger is used much more up there, we get along down here, we don;t mind what color someone is and why don’t you go back up there or where ever you come from and find the racism up there instead of trying to put us down here in the south”
It was words to that affect and yep no mention of that.

Former SEIU head Andy Stern was actually more aggressive towards Democrats than Republicans, noting that they werenât offering the sort of viable alternative to people like the ones in the film that would entice them. "Democrats have to figure out how to speak to people, too -- there isn't an alternative, it looks like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum."Wrong, a-hole -- Republicans want to drill for oil, including in the ANWR, a position favored by the Teamsters and claimed to be the eventual policy of President Kerry; Republicans want the Keystone XL pipeline, Zero and his rich puppetmasters don't; Democrats support OPEC, in particular the Gulf States, Venezuela, and Iran. And not surprisingly, the Tweedle comparison sounds exactly like RINO Paul et al.
Maher is a smug, hateful little snot with a big mouth who got rich making fun of people whose very decency is often the only thing that prevents them from kicking his ass.

the black guy tells her to basically piss off and good for him as he had it spot on.
Racism exist in ever part but those elitist liberals who live in their white neighborhoods only think southerners are the backward ones but those same ;liberals move south.
Well stay in your liberal utopia as you’re not wanted down here.

However, as we all know, if I wanted to show Mississippians and Alabamans that were concerned patriots who have genuine and thoughtful concerns about Obama and the direction he and his party are taking this country, well, I guess I could find some of them, too.
I think it was Steven Crowder who interviewed each voter as they left the polling station about their candidates. When asking for specific attributes about their candidate, some struggled to give anything but the boiler plate provided by the media.
Seeing the voters struggle with specifics, the interviewer (Crowder?) fed each dem voter some of the conservative candidates values as if belonging to the dem candidate. Some (if not all) of the interviewees mistakenly agreed.
It was a rather embarrassing video for dems. Would like to see if someone can post the video again to shove in Pelosi/Maher's yap.
Good thing for the liberals there are no Black folks in Mississippi and Alabama. [/sarc]
“Michael Steele”. Whenever i see this, i click. I keep hoping it’s the bassist from The Bangles.
Bears repeating.
I remember some of Hannity’s man-on-the-street calls, where the caller indicates they support Obama completely. Then, Hannity says “So, you support lower taxes.” “Yep!” “So, you believe that smaller government is better.” “Yep!” “You realize those are things that Conservatives support, right?” “Yep, wait, what?”
The "elite" just do not want or try to understand southerners.
When they come south, they hunt up the people who fill their expectations of southerners. Some of us have advanced degrees, expensively repaired teeth, a knowledge of history and world events, and have even traveled to and lived in other countries.
Even with mouthy upstarts like Maher and his ilk getting face time, I still prefer the USA.
I invite Maher and the H'wood celeb libs to try Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ukraine, or many other countries for a year and find out what poverty, progressivism, and terrorism are really all about.
