This light bulb is racist.

How are the minorities, who can’t afford to buy a driver’s license so they can vote, going to be able to light their houses?

Send them back to China! I think the amount of mercury China is shipping to us in the Gorebulbs has to be in the hundreds of thousands of pounds.

We recently purchased new light fixtures. Any requiring the lethal florescent bulbs were eliminated from our consideration. The government has absolutely no business telling us what light bulbs we should buy.

We switched over to LED. They’re $10 at Costco, and I’ll be dead before they need to be changed. The light LED bulbs put out is really nice, and they can be used with dimmers.

If you read the directions on how to dispose of the used bulbs, that is exactly what they say to do. Put the used bulb in a glass jar or zip loc bag and toss it in the trash.

No place I know of has a collection drop off.

For 50 bucks, I hope it lasts at least 20 years.

Costco also sells 18’ rope light LEDs for $17.
And you can string about 300’ together.

You really haven't figured out how the world works, have you? The answer is simple. The government announced plans to introduce its new "Aid to those Without Family Lighting" program which will increase YOUR taxes to give THEM free light bulbs. The new program will be "AWFL" for short.

A perfect story for the Republican Party to use to illustrate the idiocy of the administration’s green energy policies. Every Republican politician and conservative media vehicle should be highlighting this story and the government waste it represents. A $10 million taxpayer prize to a foreign company for a $50 light bulb!! This should be the story of the week to pound Obama and the Democrats.

However, we are dealing with the Republican Party which has no sense of marketing or public relations. Expect silence.

Just like everything else, they’ll be given vouchers.

Yes, this policy is “racist” as well.

Ok, this story is strange.
Why would Philips need $10mil to develop LED lights when they have already been making them for years.
Philips is a Dutch company.
The cost is out outrageously high, way over priced.
There will be LED lights out this spring for less than $25, more light better color spread, fitting standard sockets and last for 30 years.
AND no government subsidies to develop them, just investors interested in a good product and a reasonable return on their investment.

Again, folks need to check on how much of that money ends up back in Democrat coffers. The Democrats have been laundering tax money through “green” companies to pay for their re-elections.

C’mon, folks. For a subsidized lightbulb, $50 is a bargain.

I am sure that the light output of this $50 bulb is far superior to anything that a $.50 incandescent bulb could deliver... and at only 100X the “investment”. What’s next - $600 toilet seats for our 0.5 gallon per flush toilets?
