'I don't think that Barack Obama is really looking out for my interests as he said he would,' 26-year-old law student tells MTV News.
ATLANTA When we showed up at the pseudo-ritzy Renaissance Hotel in suburban Atlanta last night for Newt Gingrich's victory party looking like a hot mess after 12 hours of Super Tuesday shenanigans at Georgia Tech and Georgia State we were planning to chat with diehard young Republicans who'd been reppin' their party since they were in Reagan-themed diapers.
And sure, there were plenty of GOP geeks in full Newt regalia spittin' campaign lines like whoa but then I met 26-year-old law student Kimberly Roholt and I learned there's way more to Gingrich's young voter base than many people think.
That's because Roholt is a civic convert. "Well, I actually voted for President Obama in the last election but I voted for Newt Gingrich today," she told me.

This article illustrates one of the most important reasons for Newt Gingrich to stay in the race until the convention. Newt is the only remaining candidate that can and will articulate important ideas and reforms that have a chance to resonate with millions of young Americans.
Reforms like transforming Social Security toward optional private accounts was also championed by Herman Cain and Rick Perry and it is no wonder that they endorsed Newt. By contrast Romney mostly protects the political establishment with respect to Social Security reform and Santorum is little better.
Therefore, it is very critical for Newt to present these ideas to as many people in America and around the world.
The article reads like it was written by a middle-aged white guy like myself, trying to sound cool by employing the language that the kids use today. But on the substance, it’s onto something. Newt is for radical change in Washington, while the other candidates seek, in his words, to “manage the decay.” And many younger people get that.
I was there last night and was pleased to see a lot of young people!
Newt needs to use that for a political ad.
Obama should get Snooki for his ads
He gets the loose women with big hair vote
“Well, I actually voted for President Obama in the last election but I voted for Newt Gingrich today,” she told me.”
Hope, that right there is hope.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
This is something I have felt about Newt for a while —that he could begin to really appeal to young people — a little because he’s older and roly poly, and they might just sort of get a kick out of his professor-like wit and odd charm.
I’ve always felt he’d catch on with them sooner or later. Something in my gut. Look at how they love Ron Paul — and he’s old and white, etc. I mean — who cares, really.
He needs to change the music up at his rallies - put on a little something more contemporary for the kids ... all I ever hear is hokey country tunes that just don’t jive with Newt’s image.
Newt gets it, the young generation gets Newt.
Our morality should thrive in the space of Liberty, not within the constraints of the Left nor the GOP Establishment.
Go Newt!!!
