Rep. Donald Payne, a New Jersey Democrat first elected to Congress in 1988, has died after a battle with colon cancer. He was 77.
Payne just went public with his illness last month. At the time, he vowed to fight the disease, saying his doctors expect my full recovery, as do I. But as his condition deteriorated, he was flown from Washington to New Jersey in early March on a medical transport.
He passed away on Tuesday, according to news reports confirmed by a congressional aide.

LOL!
You’re being ridiculous
Humm, I thought that the air smelled better today!
I’m really sorry for your lost.
Maria
Glad to see we’re not stooping to the celebrating the lefty scum were doing on their sicko blogs when Breitbart died.
But they would have no chance of representing Payne's district.
Have you considered starting a foundation in support of convenience store robbers? At least they don't deny their thefts, and they don't get a lifetime pension, health care, and national recognition when they die...
May he rest in peace.
Congressman Payne’s district is overwhelmingly Democrat and majority black, so he definitely will be replaced by a black Democrat from the Newark area. Given the possible alternatives, I hope that Mayor Cory Booker runs for the seat, since he’s honest and, unlike many urban black Democrats, is willing to find common ground and work with Republicans, is open to the concept of school vouchers, and doesn’t have even a trace of anti-Semitism (in fact, he is philo-Semitic).
“He was a congressman. Being a convincing liar to a sufficient number of people for enough years to get an enormous pension is NOT a recommendation for any postmortem honors...”
Agreed.
Hey, Payne.
Say hello to Teddy K.
RIP.
No chance, new 10th has African American half of Newark, half of Jersey City that is not Hispanic and much more of Bayonne.
Cory Booker would be a good choice under the circumstances, but I haven’t seen his name mentioned. The name everyone is mentioning is Donald Payne Jr, the Newark Council President.
There is a Payne Jr.?
Great, another hereditary seat. Is this the Holy Roman Empire?
RIP to Payne Sr. An uncle of mine is currently fighting the same cancer.
