Rush Limbaugh's comments last week about a young law school student have caused some advertisers to flee his radio show. But if the leader of the Missouri House has his way, the broadcast icon soon will be in the company of Harry Truman, Walt Disney and Stan Musial.
House Speaker Steve Tilley, R-Perryville, intends to honor Limbaugh with a place in the Hall of Famous Missourians, a ring of busts in the Capitol rotunda recognizing prominent Missourians.
The unveiling is not expected until closer to the end of the legislative session in May. But word of the honor leaked Monday, just as the furor over Limbaugh's remarks continued to build.
Although the statues are commissioned with private funds, Democrats are already expressing anger at the decision to enshrine Limbaugh next to luminaries of science, culture and politics who have called Missouri home.
Tilley, who, like Limbaugh, hails from southeast Missouri, acknowledged that while not everyone may like the decision, it is difficult to deny the radio commentator's status as a titan of the communications field.
"It's not the Hall of Universally Loved Missourians," Tilley said. "It's the Hall of Famous Missourians."

Missouri ping!
"I supported naming the federal courthouse after his grandfather. I supported his first cousin to be a federal judge," McCaskill said. But, McCaskill said, "I draw the line" at putting Limbaugh's bust in the Capitol.
On his radio show, Limbaugh recently referred to McCaskill as a "commie babe liberal."
Sounds like Little Jake has his pink panties in a wad.
Thats really great! Of course slut loving libtards will go bonkers over it.
I live in Missouri. I probably support this honor for Limbaugh, and probably would say the same even if he were a liberal. After all, I disagree with much of what Mark Twain wrote, and have major problems with Pulitzer’s politics (though I greatly admire his media savvy), but they’re legitimately famous and influential Missourians.
I do wonder, however, what past practice has been on honoring people who are still alive. That’s usually a potentially dangerous action since we don’t know what they may do in the future, and risks honoring people based on current politics rather than real significance to the state.
Look for constant graffiti, damage, etc. to the Statue from the “tolerant” Leftists.
Bless Missouri, a state that will do things their own way.
You are very right. We Missourians do things that sometimes seem not quite the normal thing. However, Rush has been a blessing to radio listeners for years. I would rather see him honored than old barf bag McCaskill. She is certainly going to get her panties in a knot over this one.
Show me.
I just love the fact that it’s going to make lib heads explode. There won’t be enough duct tape to hold them together, so all you Missourians be sure to wear proper biohazard gear to protect yourselves when they start a-poppin’. Don’t wanna get any of that infectious garbage on yourselves, now!!
Rush has done more to check the rising tyranny of the Left, the progs, the irresponsible, and the handout crowd than any single force for the last 20 years. Keep in mind, many politicians of his day also hated Mark Twain for many of the same reasons.
Don’t forget to post a supportive comment at the site. The progs and parasites hate Rush.

The Facebook threads I have seen are filled with rabid people foaming at the mouth, full of rage and snapping at random people in horror at the thought.
Even a couple of people that I thought were sane.
