Mitt Romney deluging Ohio Democrats with robocalls
Ohio Daily ^ | 3/4/12 | Anastasia Pantsios

What ever happened to the Republican genius we used to hear so much about for doing voter ID and micro-targeting their potential base?

It seems like everybody I know — all faithful Democrats — has been bombarded with robocalls from Mitt Romney — and everyone who has mentioned this swears they have never voted in a Republican primary. One said she “might have” voted Reagan back in the ’80s “in another life,” but has never voted in a GOP primary. (She also said she hung up immediately because “I didn’t want that voice in my kitchen!”) Another said she’s been a registered Democrat ever since she started to vote some 40 year ago.

I had lunch today with a friend who also got that robocall last night. When I got home later after running some errands, I had two messages from her. The first said she’d received a robocall on Romney’s behalf from anti-choice activist and former ambassador to the Vatican under George Bush, Mary Ann Glendon, emphasizing Romney’s hostility to women’s reproductive rights. This wasn’t a message my friend was especially warm to, to understate the case greatly.

Her second message said she’d just gotten a robocall from Ann Romney, Mitt’s wife — three calls in 24 hours! “What next?” said her message. “Am I going to get a call from each of his sons?”

I’ve seen posts scrolling by in my Facebook news feed from Democratic activists I know in other parts of the state, and they are also reporting getting calls from Romney. So I know he’s not just targeting heavily Democratic Cuyahoga County, where few Democrats will be interested in crossing over when we’ve got a red-hot county prosecutor race. So what gives? Does Romney figure if he bombards 1,000 Democrats, he might hit one Republican by mistake? Is he calling every single registered voter, hoping he hits anyone who might pull a Republican ballot Tuesday?

I am just not getting the point of this at all.

LOL--so Romney was whining about this in Michigan, but doing it himself in Ohio?

What a desperate tool he is.

I’m one of those who has been deluged. Seriously, who ever thought a robo call did anything but p!ss off the person being called?!

I note the originator of the call, curse them under my breath, and hang up.

Romney has the cash on hand to give back what RS did in MI, and is still steamed about it.

Why? Because it worked to some extent and Romney is reportedly closing in on Santorum, and hopes robos to Democrats helps in an upset of Santorum, who is flagging.

After living through a barrage of Romney calls before the Michigan primary, I gotta wonder: Who in the bloody Hell listens to these things, and how effective a technique is it for drumming up votes?

I do know one thing — I’m SICK AND TIRED of these damned calls and am disgusted that these bastards have exempted themselves from having to honor ‘Do not call’ lists.

Screw ‘em all!

You folks for Rick can't help yourselves. The "desperate tool" would've been Santorum for doing it in Michigan.

Romney can simply argue he's trying to level the playing field by doing it in Ohio.

The question is will Democrat strategists and activists organize voters for Romney the way they did in Michigan to help Rick?
