Two Polls Find Romney, Santorum Tied in Ohio By Meghashyam Mali - 03/04/12 GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has pulled into a statistical dead heat with rival Rick Santorum in Ohio, two new polls find.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Sunday shows Romney and Santorum tied with 32 percent support from likely GOP voters in Ohio, two days ahead of that state's crucial Republican primary. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich follows with 17 percent support, trailed by Rep. Ron Paul (Texas) at 6 percent.

Santorum still holds an edge in the NBC News/Marist poll, but within that survey's margin of error. That poll finds Santorum has the support of 34 percent of likely GOP voters in the state, ahead of Romney at 32 percent. NBC/Marist finds House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 15 percent support, and Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 13 percent.

"This race could really go either way between now and Tuesday," Ipsos pollster Chris Jackson said in a report from Reuters.

"If Mitt Romney is able to close this out and win this race, that gives him a leg up in going all the way to the convention and winning the Republican nomination," he added.

"I just think it’s going to very close," said Marist College Institute for Public Opinion Director Lee Miringoff, in a statement.

The NBC/Marist poll's results though showed continuing dissatisfaction with the GOP field. Forty-six percent said they would like to see someone else run with 51 percent saying they were satisfied with the current crop of candidates.

Santorum did best amongst self-identified conservative voters, in that survey. Thirty-five percent of likely GOP voters said he was the "true conservative" in the race, followed by 21 percent who picked Gingrich, and 18 percent who picked Paul. Eleven percent picked Romney as the "true conservative."

So just like in previous states, if Santorum takes Ohio it will be called for Romney until 3 days after voting day.

Go Rick! He’s still beating Romney now, even splitting the vote with Gingrich. I just hope the vote split doesn’t cost him on Tuesday and toss it to Romney.

Unfortunately, just like what occurred in MI; and AZ, Gingrich continuing to be in the race is a blessing for Romney and Romney knows it. I wonder if Gingrich and those who support him with words, cash, and votes, does?

Is he? Seems like Romney catches up just at the right time damn near every friggin` time. I hope Santorum can hold on and not let Romney have a near-sweep on Super Tuesday.

Santorum lost his viability in 2006. It was a complete, and perhaps fatal error, by the Lemmings in this party, who so compulsively stampeeded over to his his side without a moments thought about what they were doing. Now we are seeing the result, of what some of us tried to warn the rest of you about.

Gingrich giving it to Romney again. You know he is working for Romney....no doubt about it now. He gave Washington and Michigan to Romney. I wonder what Romney promised him for his help on getting the nomination.

All Romney needs is for it to be close for the GOP to tilt the table.

The Michigan Republican Party (MRP) Credentials Committee voted 4-2 last night to give Mitt Romney both of the state's at-large delegates, State Policy Committee Chair Mike Cox told MIRS today.

Cox was one of two "no" votes on the committee which met via telephone, along with attorney Eric Doster The "yes" votes included GOP National Committeeman Saul Anuzis, a Romney supporter, and MRP Chair Bobby Schostak.

That would put the delegate split at 16 for Romney and 14 for Rick Santorum, after each candidate won 14 delegates apiece in those divided by Michigan's 14 congressional districts.

As MIRS first reported on Wednesday, the MRP was delaying a final decision on the delegate split until after consulting with attorneys.

Cox said that according to the MRP rules, Santorum and Romney should each get one of Michigan's two at-large delegates based on their take of the popular vote.

"I supported Mitt, but the vote was clearly wrong," Cox said of the Credentials Committee. "It's kind of like Third World voting. We published rules and then we voted to change the rules."

It is clear. Gingrich is solely in this race to ensure Romney wins. Proof is Michigan where Santorum lost by 3 points and Gingrich had an embarrassing finish of fourth place and garnered Santorum’s votes. In Washington, Newt finished another embarrassing fourth place win and stole Santorum’s votes. Now Newt is stealing votes from Santorum again in TN and OH. It is clear that Gingrich wants Romney as our nominee. He pretty much said so this morning when asked if he would support our nominee which the media says is Romney. Gingrich says yes I will support the nominee. This is an utter disaster. You can’t complain much since you basically voted for Obama last election when you put in a write in candidate Fred Thompson which was not a brilliant move for an intelligent person such as yourself.

Unless something unexpectedly good happens Tuesday, it’s gonna be time to start thinking about who 3rd party candidate(s) would be.

New poll tonight showing Newt surge in Tennessee.

All he is doing is giving the win to Romney. Why you can’t see that is beyond me. Unless he were to finish first which he won’t because he got ZERO votes in early voting then he is just here to give the win to Romney which is his status quo lately. I wonder what Romney promised him to stay in the race finishing fourth all the time but taking just enough votes from Santorum to ensure a win for Romney. A blind mouse could see what is happening.

It’s about delegates. You don’t seem to understand that. Newt is surging in the South and Ohio. Rick has been slipping steadily in the South and Ohio.

GO NEWT!

LOL, evil freerepublic.

For Fred Thompson in 2008 and for Newt Gingrich in 2012.

Freerepublc, secret Romney supporters? I don’t think so.

By the way you know who Rick supported for President in 2008 and 1996 don’t you? Gingrich didn’t.

What a ridiculous assertion. Newt working for Romney?!!

If you have listened to anything Newt has said, you have to realize that’s absurd.

Newt has repeatedly exposed Romney as dishonest and in his interviews today gave several examples of Mitt’s dishonesty.

Get real!
