Santorum: I'll beat Romney if Gingrich drops out
The Examiner ^ | March 4th, 2012 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 03/04/2012 12:20:40 PM PST by Mariner

Rick Santorum indicated that Newt Gingrich should drop out of the presidential race, arguing -- as Gingrich did during his surge -- that splitting the "anti-Romney" vote helped Mitt Romney win the Michigan primary and Washington caucuses and contributes to his overall success so far.

"It's always harder when you've got to conservative running in the race as we have seen in Washington and we've seen in other states," Santorum said on Fox News Sunday. "We have the anti-Romney vote, if you will. Both Gingrich and I are slugging away."

Santorum stopped short of calling for Gingrich to exit the race, but he noted that their combined support would defeat Romney. "In Michigan, we would have won easily if those two votes had been combined," he told Chris Wallace.

He also made clear that he believes Gingrich will have to drop out, eventually. "And, you know, eventually hopefully the race will settle out and we'll go one on one," Santorum said. "And once that happens, we feel very comfortable we're going to win this thing."

It's momentum. Think I saw a poll saying Santorum loosing his lead in TN. Now Romney is close in OH. Washington gave Romney more momentum. Wallace slaughtered Rick today on Fox. Newt did well on Meet the Press. Santorum’s my guy, but I see the pieces falling into place. I'm trying to not get mad, but facts are facts. It's like Santorum did the hat trick when nobody picked up the momentum wave going for him. Now I think it's just as undetected, but going the other way.

Not a chance.......Newt is our only reason Romney is stuck on 30%.

Santorum can pound sand.

So what did they ask Newt about? Did they ask him about his ex-wives and how much alimony he’s paying? Did they ask him why he converted to Catholicism and how much of it he actually believes?

There’s no comparison of the hatchet job Wallace did on Santorum this morning. We’d better start speaking out about this now or it will be Newt next or whoever we try to elect without their permission.

Why can’t ROMNEY get the point that Conservatives don’t want him? Why doesn’t anyone ask why ROMNEY doesn’t get out? If the choice were between Santorum and Newt, who would better close the deal with the American people? Between Santorum and Newt, who is best to turn the tables on the media and the republican establishment?

Santorum is part of that establishment that got us into this mess; there is no question about it. Santorum does not have the depth or strength of knowledge to turn the tables on his own party much less the media. Newt is the only choice. He has turned the media’s stupid and bias questions inside out on numerous occasions. His interview with Gregory on Meet the Press this morning is the evidence anyone would need to make the right choice. Quite frankly, if I had a child who was living on borrowed time like Bella, I would not even consider a job that would require the time that the presidency requires. Now, where are his values?

Newt is the only choice we have now. I also think he will have an incredible cabinet and he will choose the right VP to run with him. West would be my choice if Sarah does not want the job. Sarah would also make one hell of a Secretary of Energy.

Apparently Rick does not yet realize that, shortly after making that rather shortsighted prediction, Chris Wallace politically “eviscerated” him on that same Fox program. Actually, it was more like ritual sepuku on Rick's part. It was both embarrassing and painful to watch.

Note to Rick: Please go back and clean up your political entrails off the Fox studio floor.

The power of media bias is being shown. They simply refuse to give RS any kind of coverage. In all respects the votes in Michigan and Washington State, check the delegates, were ties. The MSM acts as if Romney won them handily. Same with Iowa where Rick even won the vote and was treated as if he lost.

The worst part is the GOP does the same thing.

The fix was in from the start.

..

I still don’t see how this helps Newt though, he’ll come in 3rd or 4th almost in every state on Tuesday.

Newt can say the same thing about Rick.
Which is that if Rick drops out Newt can beat Mitt.
Who would you like to see debate 0Bama, Newt or Rick?

"Please go back and clean up your political entrails off the Fox studio floor"

He's a lightweight and the curve ball backs him out of the batters box every time. Sometimes he falls over backwards just as the ball is crossing the plate for a strike.

He's not a big league hitter and can't deal with big league pitching...even in what should be batters practice against his own bullpen.

Preferring Romney over Santorum is insane.

Romney does not even belong in Republican politics.

I saw the same interview. The GOP needs to reflect on how angry we became when George Bush allowed himself to become the punching bag of the leftist establishment media. Then reflect on who is the tougher character, Bush or Santorum.

Santorum was backing off of his comments, apologizing, and taking a defensive as opposed to an offensive position. That’s something you don’t see Newt doing.

I don’t see what the Republican electorate sees in Satorum. He simply can’t stand toe-to-toe with a guy like Obama. It’s very evident. Romney would do better. Newt would make us proud.

RICK SANTORUM FOR PRESIDENT!

I usually catch almost every interview Santorum gives, but mised Fox News Sunday today....only caught a bit when they replayed a little....

Have no idea if Mike tried to eviscerate him, but then again, Mike tries to eviscerate anyone who is decent and conservative.

Wallace did say, in the 2nd interview later, that Santorum was dealing with a heavy cold.

It takes a strong constitution, physically, to be a candidate & be ready to respond day in, day out to questions....give speeches....travel in planes, trains and automobiles across the country with very little sleep and reporters mics stuck in your face so they can try to trip up your words.

You know, like what some of you do here...except without the mics.

And Gingrich would win if Santorum drops out...so they’re even. I am depressed. Because it appears more and more that the GOP-e is going to win this round. I just don’t see how the guy that lost to McCain is going to win in November. If what the independents are looking for is a wishy washy go along to get along, then maybe. As for me, if Newt goes through the Pa. primares, he’s got my vote. At that point, I quit the Republican party.

Santorum has no idea the number of Newt supporters he pizzed off with his disingenuous rewriting of Newt's history as Speaker.

I Newt drops out he will not endorse and a great many of his supporters will sit out until the general. Santo will be on his own. Good luck with that, Rick.

They need to flip a coin to see who drops out so Mitt can’t win.

It’s going to be a disaster if neither Gingrich or Santorum drops out after Super Tuesday......there is no way back, it will be Romney if that’s the case, we’re standing at the abyss.

Absolutely not, I'm as religious as they come. Just making a point about how Chris Wallace and rest of msm treat the subject as some sort of flaw. Which, I might say, I'm pretty damn sick of it.
